Upholding a 50 year promise to a friend to read this book.

I think I enjoyed it more at my current age than I would have when it was first published. Now I'm able to look back at those newcomers like Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan with an appreciation for their earliest days in the game.

Allen's writing is what I consider to be Classic Sportswriter Prose, full of insights, some humor, and an appreciation for both the game and its history.
