When Kit loses a contest and approaches a dangerous Dom for submission, he learns that the man he lusted after from afar is a lot more complicated than everyone thinks.
Mason Briggs doesn't quite know what to do with the persistent submissive. Kit looks at Mase like he s everything good and right in the world. After a murder accusation and trial, Mase just wants to protect his heart. What is he going to do about the sweet submissive who keeps walking through all of Mase's boundaries as if they aren't even there?
When someone tries to tear the couple apart and threatens Kit's safety, Mase has to decide if he wants to go back to a life alone or fight for the man he's falling in love with."
Amber Kell has made a career out of daydreaming. It has been a lifelong habit she practices diligently as shown by her complete lack of focus on anything not related to her fantasy world building.
When she told her husband what she wanted to do with her life he told her to go have fun.
During those seconds she isn't writing she remembers she has children who humor her with games of 'what if' and let her drag them to foreign lands to gather inspiration. Her youngest confided in her that he wants to write because he longs for a website and an author name—two things apparently necessary to be a proper writer.
Despite her husband's insistence she doesn't drink enough to be a true literary genius she continues to spin stories of people falling happily in love and staying that way.
She is thwarted during the day by a traffic jam of cats on the stairway and a puppy who insists on walks, but she bravely perseveres..
Combining a Valentine’s story with a mystery/thriller is an interesting idea. I must admit, though, that I totally lost track of the Valentine’s part of the story because the mystery part, embodied in a creepy stalker, had me so focused that everything else became secondary. The building relationship between Kit and Mase did keep my attention, because it was interesting to watch these two ‘battle it out’.
Mase is a ‘Dom with a past’. Accused of killing his last sub, he is more than wary of taking on another one. Being the caring man he is, he is too worried about making a mistake, even if what happened was not his fault. Even the courts confirmed it. The stalker who starts following him as soon as he connects with Kit is more than scary and I thought I knew who he was. Ha! Fooled me again. The actual culprit was a total surprise to me.
Kit may be a submissive in the bedroom, but he knows what he wants, goes after Mase and stands up for himself really well. Just goes to show what a so-called ’label’ is worth. He is very worried about Mase and stands by him despite others’ suspicions. That takes a lot of courage, and Kit has that in spades. Even when the stalker starts going after him as well, he doesn’t panic, well, not after the first shock, and who would blame him for that?
I liked the mix between mystery and romance, but the latter was definitely the stronger element. So, if you’re looking for a romance with a bit of an edge, like some kinky play in the bedroom without a full D/s situation, and enjoy a so-called submissive with a lot of spunk, you may like this story.
NOTE: This book was provided by Total-E-Bound for the purpose of a review on QMO Books.
Seriously?!? Loved the story but pretty expensive for 59 pages! $4.36 Would not hurt to make it longer. This should have same price point as Wooing Master Jones at $1.99
The recent tragedy in Mase's past has him wondering if he'll ever take on another sub. But, when Kit, a new sub, loses a dare and is forced to approach the big bad Dom at the club, Mase can't help but be attracted to Kit's innocence. Innocent he may be, but completely submissive he is not; Kit goes after what he wants even when he is stalked because of Mase's past.
The story would have been 10x better if it had been 5x longer. Though the relationship between these two was sweet, the length of the story didn't allow for Mase's resistance to be slowly broken down by the charming and funny Kit. Similarly, the who-done-it stalker mystery was a great touch, but with little more than 59 pages all it did was push the two together that much faster.
All of those reasons make it difficult to rate this tasty little morsel. Think of it as ONE chocolate chip instead of the whole cookie, or even the bag of cookies, which would'a been even sweeter. I'll go with 3★ because I'm hopped up on Valentine's Day candy from my own sweetheart.
I wish I may, I wish I might ~ I wish the story had been longer and I wish I had realized My Subby Valentine present was only 59 pages before I spent $4 for it. My Slutty Valentine, which is free through Valentine's Day @ Amazon, is another option, but the synopsis reads like a porn box; not exactly the tender love story I was looking for on this Valentine's Day.
I love Amber Kell’s works. I find her stories funny and sexy and generally leaving me in a good mood when I finish reading. Not this one though. The idea of the story itself is plausible – no complaints there – but the romantic interest after two days? Sorry, there is not enough interaction in between the characters to warrant strong emotions. The only reason I gave it a two star and not one was the idea of the plot.
It feels a bit like everything, including the writing, was rushed and pushed together by deadlines. Must produce a thing before Valentine's Day...
Ms. Kell, please don’t sacrifice quality for quantity. I would much rather wait longer for another story then start reading and then keep praying that it gets better.
Lots of things to flush out in a pretty short story, and ultimately, that didn’t work out so well; however, I still enjoyed reading it. A little mystery/intrigue, some romance, and unexpected personality traits made for a good combination, but just needed more length and depth to really be able to elevate this one.
Once again, while this story has the word Valentine in it, there is no mention of the holiday in the text, so I hope the name doesn’t scare anyone off. Mase is a big bad Dom at a local club, but he only plays at the club and has a reputation for being remote. One evening, it appears Kit loses a bet with some other subs and approaches Mase. Despite being attracted, Mase knows to do anything with a drunken sub is irresponsible, so puts him off with promises of a date, but no intention of following through. Only things are not quite what they seem in this story.
Kit didn’t lose, in fact he had to drink enough to “win”, in his opinion, the chance to approach Mase. And Mase has his reasons for not having a permanent boy, or even taking one home. It seems his last sub couldn’t handle the lifestyle on top of being manic-depressive and killed himself. The young man’s family tried to have Mase tried for murder, however he was found innocent and is starting over in a new city, but a reputation follows you.
Kit doesn’t care about his reputation, and is determined to worm his way into Mase’s life. When it looks like vengeful family members from the past start threatening not only Mase’s peaceful existence, but Kit, he soon moves the young man lock, stock and cute dog into his home, giving Kit the opportunity to prove himself indispensable and Mase the opportunity to prove himself unsuitable. Of course, the cute twinky sub always wins.
I have to confess that the identity of the stalker kind of caught me off guard and a brief sentence or two was thrown out as to his motives, but it seemed a bit convoluted and coincidental to me, and thus seemed more of a device to get Kit moved into Mase’s house within days, rather than a real subplot to the story.
Still, despite a bit of insta-lust that might be teetering on the border of insta-love, it was a pleasant enough read. It’s really more of a BDSM-lite story. They discuss more extreme activities but as it only takes place over a few days they don’t get that far. As well, I liked Mase’s reticence to push a sub too far, and also his fear of taking on a newbie who may not react well to the lifestyle and thus have him in the same position again. However despite Kit’s seeming airhead twinky demeanour, he had a good head on his shoulders and got Mase to look at things in a less paranoid manner.
This story fits a certain trope which is hard for me to describe. There are certain hallmarks to this type of story that I do enjoy on occasion with spunky subs and more stoic, yet deeply caring, Doms. It’s well done on that front, and Kit’s dog is cute, but the stalker sub-plot kind of took away from seeing Mase work through his fears about having a sub again. I think that could have been a story unto itself which ended up feeling a bit rushed as the stalker plot took up space.Despite this, I still enjoyed it and it was a fun quick read, that despite the stalker, didn’t come across as overly angsty.
Heh. That was adorable, particularly Kit. He was simply a delight. I really liked Mase as well with his gently ways. The BDSM aspect, although given such ominous relevance, really turned out very tame and from what I could see not much domination actually happened. XD Okay, not much sex happened either, which is in fact a good thing, but still.
The villainous plot did not go deep; pretty obvious stuff. The writing was unpolished. But hell, did I have a good time with this! There really is something to be said for purely lovable heroes. <3 So much fun!
I would have liked to see a bit more development in the story since everything seemed a bit rushed. The read was interesting enough but I found I wanted to know the reason why the culprit did what he did to Mase. It's explained that culprit thought Mase's previous lover was his but reader's didn't get the whole picture of why the culprit thought that (was Jeff cheating? did he have a relationship with the culprit or was it all in the culprits mind?, etc).
Title seems slightly out of place. Story is abt Kit and Mase and Mase's stalker. who by the way was obvious from almost the beginning. Plot was "surfacy" my new word for lacking depth. :-) At first glance the plot was unique and intriguing. Former sub commits suicide and Dom blames self. The emotions between the MCs seemed rushed towards the end but the book was cute. Not earth shattering but cute.
Cute read but too short. It may have worked with the plot line a little less complicated. There are just too many threads to wrap up that quickly without coming across a little too easy and sappily. I did enjoy it but it wasn't as good as I had hoped.
I like this story in theory. However I have a few issues: 1. It was way too short. 2. The price point was way off for the word count. 3. The entire story and plot seemed really rushed
I was really into the story - no problem with insta love, as it was mentioned that Kit plodded the meeting and then working his way to stay with Mase - but it lost me around 75%, as soon as the identity of the stalker was revealed.
feel robbed as it's too short. Felt like an entire chunk of at least 50 pages were taken out in the middle. Should not cost more than 1.99. 'Considering Carlisle' had more meat than this at 1.99.
