This book has detailed illustrations of patterns children may have not noticed, but see in their surrounding environments often, and descriptions of what patterns are. I would use this book to bring their attention to those patterns and for an activity, they would bring in items from home, outside or anywhere, that they think have patterns. We would discuss all of the items as a group and identify the patterns. Another activity would be identifying patterns in our classroom, and lastly, having the children create their own with various materials that they glue and draw on a piece of paper.
Useful to show children to expand their understanding of patterns beyond the typical ABAB color patterns they see and do all the time. Patterns are all around us!
