A young woman turned into a vampire in 1727, encounters other vampires, vampire hunters, ghosts, werewolves, witches, and heartbreak in her mission to exact revenge on the vampire who transformed her, and then his sisters who commit an unspeakable act against her over the course of two hundred and eighty-four years.
Book contains violence and sexuality, intended for mature readers only.
Part 1 Aine is a long, action-packed, scary yet thrilling novel. I give it 5 stars. Written in third person, Aine's journey starts in Bristol England in 1700 and spans almost two centuries. She is happily engaged. Things go awry and she is turned into a vampire--an ultimate betrayal from the man she trusted and loved. The back story set up makes it impossible for Aine to fully relish her new life without taking revenge on her fiancé. The novel is filled with lots of supernaturals: werewolves, witches, spirits, a shape-shifter and, of course, vampires. Although most of novel is a traditional story, a poem and diary entries are scattered throughout.
I've read several of Mark Mackey's novels. He has a unique writing style which incorporates good detail to grammar. Like the other books, Aine is mostly conversational and gives little details, leaving my mind happily open to its own imagination.
I was given this novel for an honest review. Kudos to the author for another wonderful novel. Due to some violence and sexual content, which is reference yet not describe in full detail, I recommend this for older teens plus.
Part 2
Part two leaves off from part one. The chapters are shorts and in book two, you start with chapter 83. As with the first book, this second one contains journal entries and is written in third person, mostly conversational.
My only negative comment is I felt some areas could have been taken out and I didn't know where the story was leading. It is why I give this part 4 stars. In part one Aine set forth a revenge against William, Aine's ex-fiancé, who had turned her. I thought she'd return to looking for him in part two. Perhaps it was wishful thinking or an assumption on my part but Aine didn't. There's a lot of characters and things that occur that involve revenge but William is left out other than briefly. Through failed romances Aine gave up on love. Despite this being stated several times throughout part 2, which spans from 1888 to 2011, I didn't understand until the end that this was where the story was leading. I won't state with whom Aine falls in love with or if she does. You'll have to read it for yourself.
My favorite character was Lisandra, a kick-butt powerful witch. She is easily a good friend, who tries to please her friends. Mack Mackey's imagination and what Lisandra did amazed me, in a good believable way.
That being said if you like part one, part two won't be a disappointment. If anything, it's filled with more magic, demons, and other supernatural beings. Well done Mack Mackey!
Note: I received this book from the author for an honest review.
I was given this book for an honest review. I would like to start by giving Mark Mackey credit for writing a vampire story the likes I have never read before. I was so engrossed in this story that my 1½ hour walk on the treadmill seemed like 30 minutes. When a book can do that, it deserves 5 stars. This book did annoy me in two ways. The first, the vampires liked to repeat certain words like ‘villainous’. Oh my gosh, each time I read that word I wanted to scream. The second is that poor Aine lost every man she loved. This girl went through so much in her life she deserves some love! I look forward to part 2 of Aine’s story. I sure hope she finally finds a man worthy of her love and is strong enough to confront their enemies and stay alive. Lovers of the undead would enjoy this unique vampire story that blends werewolves, ghosts, witches, and sea creatures into the mix.
Aine: An Undead Girl Novel (Book 2)
Perfect Sequel
This book was given to me for an honest review. This book is part 2 to the Aine: An Undead Girl series. Mark Mackey’s style of storytelling is unique. This book contains not only vampires, but witches, vampire eating demons, and werewolves. Even aliens make an appearance in this fast-paced storyline. If you just want to kick back and try something different, then read this book with a hot cup of tea.
I thought this book was awesome a poor innocent girl is turned to be a vampire because of her people in the past. I cant wait to read more of this authors books.
I read Parts 1 and 2 and absolutely loved, loved both of these books!!! The story telling is absolutely unique, the supernatural characters are amazing and yet very realistic! I loved the length of both parts as well, the longer the better, for me anyway. I fell in love with Aine right away from her polite gentle nature to her bad ass vampire one. I love strong characters such as her. And the mystery and suspense kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through both parts, I had to read them both in one sitting which was around 12 hours of reading but, oh, completely worth it! This amazing, well written author took me on a journey of epic proportions that I will soon not forget and that others will have a hard time beating! I recommend this book to anyone who loves a great novel, loves the supernatural and paranormal along with mystery and suspense and is ready for one heck of a ride by the seat of their pants! These books are going to leave you wanting to read so much more from this amazing and talented author with a gift for character development, plot, and story line as well as maintaining the continuity of it all! A definite must read! If amazon would have let me I would give it 15 stars!! The first time I have ever found a book worth that many!! If you have not read part one and two, well, what the heck are you waiting for? Get them today! I guarantee, it will be one of the best reads of your life!
I was gifted a copy of Aine: An Undead Girl Novel by Mark Mackey in exchange for an honest review. I would have read it anyway, as Mark Mackey is one of my favorites. So, Aine is a historical vampyre novel. Mark Mackey is a master of the spoken word. His novels read like movies and I really love that. He describes scenes in great detail, but leaves the action and emotions to the conversations. I really enjoyed Aine and the crews and liked the way Mark Mackey indicates the passage of time. But Ultimately this one was a bit too long for my tastes. It could easily have been two novels. It seemed to drag a bit in the middle, but tied up nicely at the end. Well done.
After reading part of Aine's diary which originally introduced the time period and included a dark poem as well as the main character's personal thoughts, I continued to be drawn to the intriguing story; Aine's expected marriage proposal as well as the unexpected undead visitor and the secret the reader discovers Aine's fiancee had been keeping made me eager to read more.
Although I liked the vengeance story in general, I have to admit that I found the book to be quite long and my interest came and went at times because I found that there were too many characters being introduced for short periods of times as well as several small side stories without much details; it was a bit hard for me to keep track of everything going on and stay focused.
I have always felt that Marc Mckay's books would make better TV series, but that's just my personal opinion. The author has a big imagination and a lot of great ideas.
If you crave more when you finish reading this book, I suggest you check out the second title in the series. I am curious about it myself since the first book ended abruptly.
