Designed for students, but packed with thoughtful ideas and comprehensive insight, Basics Thinking Visually provides a broad understanding of illustration in the context of communication design.
A reasonable book on the history of illustration, techniques and media. It isn't really a book about how to think visually though. Other than the history, it reads mostly as a directory of hundreds of illustrators to research, if you so wished. I wouldn't recommend this book. There are many more out there that are much more useful.
not exactly what i was expecting... I had hoped to get an insight into techniques to visualise ideas and develop them into visual languages - both conceptual and narrative, and learning to apply traditional or digital media approach and methods... but I didn't find many practical ideas to explore or inspire...
the book is not very easy to read and in the end (for me) it came down to flipping thru many of the pages and simply trying to make the most of it by looking at the works included from many (over 100) illustrators to create a view on contemporary trends.
for a student of illustration, the book acts a useful resource on global practices and emerging views - it has lots of references that the reader can use to undertake further research, but a casual reader is likely to lose interest...
Začíná to už přehozeným název a podnázvem v češtině a plejádou nijak světoborných citátů nijak světoborných grafiků konče.
Not quite the book I expected - it sounded like 'thinking' but is more how to approach media using various materials. But to be fair it's a very modern dynamic colourful interior and does provide a good overview to many areas of creativity
