In the spring of 1977, William Prunellier finds himself alone in life, yet struggling to connect with his thirteen-year-old granddaughter, Flambée. On the eve of his death, he wanders into the French countryside to reflect on the stubborn battles of his eighty-one-year-old life, in search of grand lessons to teach his granddaughter. In his pursuit of wisdom, he surrenders his habitual existence.
