The plot and characters benefit tremendously from Kate taking over.
She's really good at pacing and has knows right when to drop out of a scene and jump into another. She also pulls off the turn-the-page surprise a few times which seems extraordinarily difficult to do when each page (of the two you see at once) is set at six panels without stretching or abbreviating dialogue.
BUT I thought she would know "pet names" (ha!) better than Reed and discontinue Omaha calling her man "Lollipop" because it makes my skin crawl and doesn't even make sense! A lollipop would be a hit and run not a significant other that you live with and if it's because cats lick then she would've been purring instead of "Mmmmm" while getting a massage.
Like the first volume I recommend reading the introduction afterwards since there is no set up and both give away story.
The sexy saga of the animal-heads continues, with some major goings-on. The art gets better here, the lingo gets a little less relaxed-and-groovy, and the writing goes along at a clip. This volume is better than the first book, but mainly for the consistent writing of Worley and the improved illustration from Waller.
