Let me start by saying this is not a negative review. This is a true 2.5-star read, and I almost wanted to round it up to 3 stars because it was very entertaining and made for a pleasant, light read. That means I did enjoy the experience, despite the points I mention below.

Since I consider chick lit my guilty pleasure, I wasn’t expecting anything groundbreaking. As long as a book fulfills its purpose within the genre, I’m more than happy with it.

So why didn’t this one earn 3 stars, even though I had fun reading it?

What I liked:

- The characters were surprisingly likeable. That’s hard to explain, because they could be a little silly at times, but they still felt relatable. They were flawed, unpredictable, and realistic in a way that made me want to spend more time with them. In fact, I know there’s at least one more book featuring Millie and the others, and I’m seriously considering picking it up. So whatever Anna Bell did here, she did something right.

- The twists! If there’s one thing this book is not, it’s boring. The twists made it not only easy to read but also genuinely funny in places.

- The dreamy, cheesy tone. This book fully commits to its genre, and I respect that. It’s romantic, fluffy, and light-hearted, just as the cover and synopsis promised. It gave me exactly what I expected from a chick lit novel, and that deserves credit.

What I didn't like:

- The transitions between characters and scenes were rough. Sometimes you’d be following Millie in one setting, and suddenly in the next paragraph, you’d find yourself at Colette’s house in a totally different situation. These jumps broke the narrative flow and weakened the emotional intensity.

- I haven’t lived in the UK for very long, and English isn’t my first language, but I still noticed some inconsistencies in character voices. Several American characters used distinctly British expressions, and that took me out of the story a few times.

- Even though this is meant to be a light book, I felt that a few characters had potential for deeper development. A little more exploration would have added richness without sacrificing the tone.

Overall, this was a fun and enjoyable read. I just wish the writing had been a little smoother. Still, none of the issues I had will stop me from picking up another book by this author.

Hilarious. Simply hilarious. There were a couple of twists that you weren't expecting, and at one point there is a moment where you think, "ok this is chitlit, this shouldn't be happening," but trust the author. She comes through in the end, and it's a great book. I was laughing out loud on the subway for a good chunk of this book.

If you need a chicklit book this is definitely the one.

I fell into this novel head first. Anna's writing was so lovely that I was instantly absorbed. It was very entertaining with some great humour and lots of drama!

We are first introduced to Millie whilst she is in the UK when she receives a fridge magnet that invites her to a wedding in the USA of her old university friend Kristen. Not only is she invited she has also been asked to be one of the bridesmaids. OK, seems simple enough, right? No, cue the dragon Maid of Honour Colette, who seems to take the fun out of everything and talk about her own wedding at every opportunity. Not only this but Millie previously had a one night stand with the groom! There are lots of things telling Millie that she shouldn't go, especially as something happened the last time she was there that she had buried deep within her. But the allure of America and the shopping is just too tempting, so she soon finds herself arriving in the US, hoping that the other bridesmaids are a lot nicer and more fun than Colette! She is also hoping that the past will stay very firmly in the past!

This story really did have me in stitches, it was so funny, especially the scene with the bum pincher!! A seriously Laugh-out-loud moment!!

Millie was a great main character and I really liked her. It's great when you really like the main protagonist as it makes the story go by quicker, with you wanting to find out what's going to happen ans wanting to be a part of their story. Millie is a great party girl and would definitely be the type of person I would like to go out with on a night out!

I also loved Tara, one of the bridesmaids that Millie meets. Not at all like the rude stuck-up Colette; which we soon discover the reason for! There were some great scenes with Millie and Tara and I think they partly made the novel.

It was really interesting reading about the slight differences in American wedding traditions- i.e. the garter! I didn't actually realise they had different traditions, so this was a little eye opener for me.

Although a funny novel, there was also some really sad parts that made my heart bleed and I became extremely angry with one of the characters. All of the main wedding guests seemed to be harbouring secrets as well!

A great chic-lit book that I definitely recommend and I am now going to start the sequel: Millie and The American University.

There is nothing better than being that engrossed in a book that nothing can take you away from it. Over the past 20 hours I have been napping and one eye reading ‘Millie and the American Wedding’ through a cracking migraine. If that's not a good enough review I don't know what is ha-ha

It is fabulously funny and also heartbreaking. The story line is gripping, and the characters a mixture of drama.

The book follows English rose Millie to the US for her old friend Kirsten’s wedding. Whilst there she becomes Millie the adulterer, Millie the target of hate, Millie the confidant, Millie the secret keeper, Millie the ball grabber, Millie the boob flasher and Millie the party girl. Far from the normal girl with the quiet life she has back in good old blighty.

This book will really have you howling with laughter. It's so much fun. You connect straight away with most of the issues going on and find yourself cringing at some of the similar situations you have been in. You also get a good old bit of heartache and sadness too. This balances out the story perfectly. It will have you swallowing the lump in your throat and feeling the anticipation that comes with it.

I recommend it to anyone who likes a good laugh, a good sob story and most of all a good old girly book.

Oh, and I will be trying the apple pie shots from this book, they sound delicious! I can guarantee you’ll be trying them too. Roll on the weekend ay?

5/5

I liked the book. The book is very typical of its genre, so I was not expecting anything better, or different.

Millie is invited to her (once best)friend Kate's marriage, but she plans not to show up because she had once slept with the groom (she was drunk then). But the main reason she don't want to go there is because her once upon a time love of her life whom she still loves is apparently also invited as one of the best man. But when Kristen asks her to become her brides maid, she has to go. So the story is all about Millie's escapades during the marriage.

All in all the story was very likable. I really enjoyed reading it. So why 3 stars? Because I failed to see anything in the whole story except getting drunk (even in the flashbacks), flashing the intimate parts in the public, hunting guys;) and marriage. Every other person was either getting married, or was 'just married' or was planning for marriage. Jeez!! Many secrets were revealed, Millie's and others' as well. And the end really had me, it WAS expected though. I closed the book with a smile on my face.

It is one of those books which you pick up for a light read. I may even read it at some other point of my life and like it better. Bit for now, its just a 3 from me:)

I liked this book wel enough, but sadly it wasn't anything interesting. What I liked most was the humor and some of the secrets were playing out hilariously, but apart from that there wasn't very much else. It involved a lot of drinking and talking about the same things without these talks leading to anything in particular.

Millie was sometimes interesting and in other parts super boring. The whole book was about the wedding and Rob. IF you are going to write a book entirely about a wedding, you need more than just a few lousy family secrets that won't even really get a climax. Most of the secrets just faded away or got 1 page in which all was revealed. I think that the only secret that was really played out entirely was the secret of Rob and Millie, but even that didn't get much of a dramatic reaction. Yes, they reacted, but not really. Also the fact that it took them 5 years to find out, plus that Rob got married just a year ago, made it feel like this secret was long overdue. It wasn't as crucial to know the truth anymore, because as you notice later on, it doesn't really do anything.

I finished the book with maybe a tiny smile, but that was about it.

Bit of marshmallow fun as I get deeper into assignment time. Only tok a few hours to read, and was literally fluff to help send me to sleep and not to be thinking about budgets or acquisitions etc. I like that Millie is English and I also like that she stands up for herself every now and again. This story has a really crappy ending - you turn the page (or in my case swipe) and boom! It's the epilogue. Shame really - because I would have like to see more.

If you're wondering the whole story is set out over a week at a wedding in New York as Millie gets to know her friend Kristen all over again and all the stories and drama that appear to be endemic amongst people who don't tell the truth for fear of hurting people. And an evil mother into the bargain. As I said, a nice fluffy read for when your brain can't cope with more. :D

After reading 'Millie and the American University', I HAD to read it's predecessor.

I have to say, the prequel made this book easier to follow. I could imagine myself flicking through the pages trying to figure out who was who if I hadn't read the prequel first.

I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down and ended up staying up till 7am finishing it! Oh, the perks of being a university student on Summer break. My heart went out to Millie. She was so strong throughout the book. I really enjoyed how much drama she brought to the group. It made me laugh out loud, cringe and almost had me in tears.

I cannot wait for the next installment!

1.5 to 2 stars.
So. It will be a very short review. I still actually don't know what this book was about, what was its goal.
From the whole book I remember only the name Millie which was repeated instantly (instead of "she" for example the author used always Millie, in every sentence, it was really annoying), and I had a feeling that the author liked particular words, because when she once used them they repeated themselves in the next sentences.
Apart from Millie there was a lot of drinking and partying. Plot? I didn't find one, I'm sorry.

I really enjoyed this short book. Some of the grammar was terrible and incorrect uses of homophones such as - there. their and they're, there were extra words added in here and there that obviously shouldn't have been there. But, if you can see past this, it is an enjoyable story.

Millie and the American Wedding is cheerful, fun and pleasingly packed full of twists and turns. Millie is funny, friendly, and reassuringly imperfect - in short, she is best friend material. I'm off to buy book number 2!

A light-hearted distraction between reading more gritty material. A little predictable but warm and comfortable to read with likeable characters. Bridget Jones meets a somewhat tamer Sex and the City. And who doesn't like them?

Interesting comedy/romance novel. Loved the story plot and the characters were well developed. It's hard to not have feelings for the characters and what they've went. I'm excited to read the next book.

Really enjoyed the story, lots of funny moments to relate to. Would have liked a bit more detail to the epilogue as it did finish abruptly in my opinion. Worth a read.
