Shinobu Ohtaka (大高 忍, born May 9, 1983 Tokyo, Japan) is a Japanese manga artist. She is best known for the creation of the manga series Sumomomo Momomo and more recently, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic.
World: The art is solid with the magic looking gorgeous. The world building does it's job with setting up the magic and some of the world pieces like the baddies but not a lot of build here.
Story: Fights and fights and fights. Just when you thought the fight was over we have more fights. It's interesting but it's a bit much at this point and the problem is that the magic system is not fully formed and so victories are pulled out of character asses and I don't like that. There are some emotional cues here but I don't know when they are in dire situations or not cause the magic and the world logic is a bit loosey goosey at the moment.
Characters: Some interesting choices for characters and some nice little moments. But that's washed out by a lot of fighting and villains just appear with no backstory and no build up and yeah they just are there as mwaaa haaa haaas. Not that deep.
It was aight, I'm a bit tired of the fights with no rules.
Bel volume.
Another group cover and I'm all for them, they always look so good.
This is such a battle filled volume and I can say each one was great, the build up for the enemy for the group to overcome was really good not to mention there designs were great as always, especially the dark Djinns. There are a few moments that I'm looking forward to seeing develop in the upcoming volumes (which I wont mention due to they could be spoilers) but im excited!
Alibaba and Aladdin find their skills pushed to the limits against the intense skills of the Al-Thamen, who desire the great wisdom of Solomon - and if the boys can't defeat their opponents and protect their friends, this will be the last dungeon they ever venture through! Ohtaka brings fans another entry full of quick action and high stakes. What price will come of seeking Solomon's wisdom?
This was an action-packed, emotional volume. I like that this series explores the way good intentions, loss, and trauma can affect people and lead them down the wrong path. I also really liked that one truly awful character got dealt with quickly and decisively. It was a good read.

The story One was pretty good but it fell down a bit in execution - the transitions were sometimes jarring and the fights hard to understand other than at the high level often.
This is the eleventh volume in the Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic series. This was my least favorite book in the series so far. A lot of new characters are introduced and I was having some trouble following the story.
The Zagan arc wraps up in this book. The majority of the story consists of a large battle between our heroes and the Al Sarmen group. The eight generals also show up again (while I love these guys, I again have trouble keeping track of them all).
This manga series has been a bit inconsistent for me. It always seems like there is an epic story going on and then we are diverted to something smaller and less interesting (like the whole Zagan dungeon which I was initially excited about but then was kind of a drag). Some of these books have been really awesome and some have really dragged, this book was one of the worst ones. But it does seem like the story is changing course to something more interesting.
There is a ton of action in this book, which I enjoy. I thought the illustration in this book wasn’t as good as some of the other shounen I read (Claymore, Deadman Wonderland, Hellsing). At times I had trouble figuring out what was happening in the action scenes, there was just too much going on and characters weren’t as distinctive from each other as they could have been.
Overall this was a decent installment in the Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic series but still one of the weakest ones in the series so far. I will keep on reading the next couple volumes in the series, but if it continues in this way this is a manga series I will probably drop. I would recommend this series to fans of light-hearted and action packed fantasy manga. Most of the series has been very good.
Finally the Zagan arc is over! While it has its own share of humor, action and friendship, I found the whole arc quite boring. I was relieved when the gang got out of the dungeon at last especially because of what greeted them outside. However, just a few pages in to the new arc, I found the events boring again. I love the eight generals! They are so kakkoi especially the three that showed up. However, I have this feeling on the back of my head like I've seen the same thing a lot of times before and now it has ceased to excite me.
Magi has been a really good read for me so far, but I'm worried that it may not have anything new to offer.
This Manga starts our humorous. I really enjoyed the characters at the beginning. The farther you read the deeper the plots become. Enjoyable at the beginning, and a must read for the later books. I can NOT wait for books 27 + Characters are real and raw. Everyone has there faults and I feel the author/artist dose a wonderful job of bringing everyones points of view, twisted though they might be, in to clear focus.
(note: I wouldn't recommend this manga for young teens. I fine the sexual innuendos pretty funny as an adult, but not really appropriate for younger audiences. Also the plot gets pretty dark at times. )
Well things just got a little bit more interesting. I am very intrigued by the battles between the main characters and the Al Sarmen group. I think this is going to develop into an incredible journey and epic battle throughout the rest of the series. I have very high expectations. Plus I have finally decided that all four of the main characters are my precious babies, so my emotional investment is already out of proportion.
I did believe that there was something that Sin was hiding. I just felt like his character was a little too good. There is some shady business going on here...
