Rate this book

I read this book when I was still in early primary school and absolutely loved it. In fact, I think it could have been the first full-sized fiction book I read in my life. It captured me completely. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to gift a book to someone aged 11+ (I think it could be a little scary for younger).

Review for “Spacecraft of the Gods (Pharaoh) and Nina (Luna Child)” by Moony Witcher:

It’s the second book of “The Luna Child” series, in which Nina, the granddaughter of one of the most powerful alchemists, professor Mișa, has to free the second mystery from Karkon’s clutches to save Xorax, the planet of light where children’s dreams dwell. Nina and her friends, Dodo, Cesco, Fiore and Roxi will have to solve riddles, overcome obstacles and even get to Egypt, where their friendship, loyalty and courage will be put to the test, but their lives will also be in danger.
The action of the book is a race against time full of mysteries and suspense which every action and magic lover will want to read. Virtues like bravery, friendship, loyalty, hope, patience, willpower, thinking, truth and creativity and their opposites, evil, hate, thirst for power, violence and temptation (the Voice of Persuasion created by Karkon, which is also present in each of us when we least expect it) are present at every turn and Mrs. Witcher added a few more qualities like wits and the interpretation of things through the language of the Sixth Moon which has been created especially to get the reader to put his mind to use.
Another example of a writer who makes the reader get involved into deciding how things will turn out in his books is R. L. Stine.
So the portrait of some of the virtues and sins mentioned earlier are the following:
- Roxi displays an outstanding loyalty and courage when she offers blood to bring her friend Fiore back to life despite the fact that she’ll be putting her life at risk too (Chapter Six The Book of the Dead and the secret of the Toiran Ship);
- Nina represents patience, hope, thinking and creativity throughout the whole book, and she also represents light;
- Karkon is the perfect image of evil, darkness and that of a power hungry through his deeds;
- Karkon’s androids represent violence as they nearly beaten Dodo to death and because they were sadistically killing cats to use their hearts to maintain themselves alive.
Like Harry Potter, Nina is the example of the person who remains psychologically strong despite the obstacles she comes across, all the suffering she endures and that she has to do things quickly. She keeps her shirt on and carries on with her mission bravely and with a strong will. She faces challenges that are getting more and more difficult.
Karkon can be associated with Lord Voldemort through the way he treats his followers and creations (the androids), through the fact that they are both experts in using dark magic and are obsessed with conquering worlds.
Mrs. Witcher’s novel can be compared with the manga and anime series “Full Metal Alchemist” because it presents the best parts of alchemy, but also the disasters brought by it when it’s used for evil purposes. The book can also be compared with Dante Alighieri’s “Divine Comedy”. Eterea, the Mother of Alchemy can be associated with Beatrice from “Paradiso” because she guides and helps Nina and the Sixth Moon and Xorax can be associated with Dante’s description of Heaven from the literary work mentioned earlier. Karkon is the image of Lucifer from “Inferno”.
Along with J. K. Rowling, R. L. Stine and Beatrice Masini, Moony Witcher is one of the writers who revolutionized literature through her simple style and the unique world which she created.
I recommend this book to reader 12+ because it contains a few scary scenes.

Moving on with this magical adventure. I will say this again: I rated this book 3 stars, not necessarily because I did not enjoy it, but, rather, because it isn't suited well for my age. I know I should have read them when I started this series as a young child, but I just cannot let this series unfinished (nostalgia and my obsession with completion made me finish this series).
I would recommend this book to children of ages 12+ (don't quote me on that, it's just my opinion). It is a fun read, which can put the children's imagination at work, although I must say there were some scenes I wouldn't have put in a children's book. Maybe it sounded bad because of the translation but still...
A thing that put me off and I think it would make the reading for a child more difficult is the very detailed description of the actions and environment. Beside that, there is a lot of information thrown at the reader and I believe it could confuse the child or maybe make him/her not fully understand what's happening.
Otherwise, it is a nice book to give as a gift and have fun while reading about the adventures of our 5 friends.

A w niej...

Nina poszukuje drugiego Arkanu niezbędnego do pokonania Karkona.

W niektórych momentach miałam go ochotę udusić go za te wszystkie kłamstwa i fałszywe zachowanie, oby w kolejnej części szybko stracił posadę.

When I read the first book, I was pretty much enthralled. The story was original, the characters fun and people you could relate to (due to them being teenagers), and also, the magic was believable and nicely blended with the rest of the story.

However, I didn't like the second installment. It was a nice twist to be sure, and of course, the adventures and challenges they encounter on their way were nice, but I just wasn't feeling it.

I though it was a bit boring and at times uninteresting. I think part of the fault for me not liking it so much is the fact that I loved the first book so much, so I had such high expectations for this one as well.
