I grew up on a farm in Connecticut, when Connecticut had farms, where sleeping in was getting up after the sun, and you could put your hands in the Earth, smell the soil, and grow something other than grass in it. I didn't know that a god named 'War,' in a land called Fovea in another reality, needed a champion, and that he'd contracted with the dying god Anubis to provide him with one, in return for enough power to put Ra on his throne again. I didn't know that Anubis chose me, and for a total of eighteen years threw everything he could think of at me, to break me, to torment me, to forge me into this thing to be traded. He cost me the love of my life and a college education. He cost me my career in the US Navy. He cost me my parents and friends, each one given up in offering, passed like a mile post, left behind to harden me into this instrument that War wanted. My failures became His successes, my anger that instrument's edge. At the end of it all, after I passed all of the tests, leading a life left in a shambles, never knowing that I had been tested at all, Anubis appeared and tricked me into pledging my soul to him. That gave him the right to make the trade and give me to War who, by comparison, made Anubis seem like a pretty nice guy. I'm Randy Morden - welcome to my world. A world where magic is real, technology the stuff of fantasy, and warriors with swords ride horses into battle, trying to stay one step ahead of their gods' will. I didn't ask for this life, but I promise before anyone ever knocks me down again, I'm going to have their blood on my knuckles, because a man can only be pushed so far!

REVIEW: INDOMITUS EST: BOOK ONE OF THE FOVEAN CHRONICLES by Robert W. Brady
An intriguing, metaphysically-framed, philosophical epic fantasy, with lots of heroics, adventure, and danger. Better yet, this is a thinking person's fantasy, one that bypasses the two-dimensional surface and delves in deep, into those multiple worlds and dimensions humans never see--well, not usually. Deep down there, also, are the Voids where forgotten or fallen gods go to disappear--such as Anubis, Lord of the Underworld, subject to Sun God Ra; until Ra found defeat from Jehovah.
INDOMITUS EST is Book One of the four-installment FOVEAN CHRONICLES.
Well what can I say. This is a brilliant book of pure fantasy. We have a young man that is basically was born to be traded by an Egyptian god Anubis. From the time Randy was young , Anubis has thrown everything and anything to try and break the young man. But as we go along we find out that Randy is more than just human. As he travels across the land Fovea trying to stay one step ahead of the gods . He meets knights and dwarves and all matters of magical beings He vows before they are done there will be blood on his hands
The characters in this book are such good characters. We have the true evil which are the God of War and Anubis . Anubis is one evil dude that drives poor Randy to the edge. He doesn't make Randy some type of sword wielding superhero. He is just a man , who for the fun of the gods is transported to another universe. He is a flawed man and is so angry about what has been done to him. That he want revenge and will do anything to get it. Randy is just a man that wants to love with his whole heart and have that love returned . But he is a man and is quite cruel at some points But he will prevail and give a world of hurt to those Gods that want to use him.
The author takes on a ride that is pure magic and fantasy, that doesn't drag in any area. He doesn't dwell on the insignificant little descriptions of things. It flows as such a great pace. You will get sucked into this fantasy world. You will gasp and cheer for Randy /Rancor. You will want him to defeat everyone. This isn't your typical fantasy book. So if you are looking for a book with lots of action, loads of intrigue and of course there is a lot of fighting . Check this book out , just be prepared to be sucked into a great fantasy world . Where everything old is the norm and the ways of the modern world is considered magical. This is the book for you . I will tell you it is a big book but the time will fly when you start reading. So if you are brave enough check it out You will not be disappointed at all
YOU WILL HAVE TO READ THE NEXT BOOK IN THE SERIES!
This is an epic with a new twist. I always enjoy something fresh in any genre. The story will grab you right away and keep you reading.
The main characters develop throughout the novel and learn hard lessons. The know destruction and loss and experience triumph against impossible odds. You will fall in love with the main characters as they discover each other and the new world around them.
There are plots within plots and at times I had trouble understanding what was going on which is one reason for a 4 star rating. With many different factions in a Fovean world, you will learn about each race and their uniqueness. The other reason for a 4 star rating is then ending....I was shocked as it left me baffled about so very much. You will be headed for Robert Bradys next novel because you have to know what happens.
I am happy to recommend this fantasy epic to all readers of epics. KUDOS Mr. Brady on a tale well told
For those of you who have read A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court, this book is related. We have a modern man from our time transported from our time to the past and made to survive only using his whits and an occasional helping hand from the god War.
I have read this series many times; it is on par with the writings of Brandon Sanderson, Brent Weeks, and Peter Brett. This book is one of the internet's best kept secrets.
I eagerly await any further installments by Mr. Brady. I loved reading this book the first time, my opinion has not changed in my 3rd jaunt through this series.
Keep up the good work sir; and hurry up so I can eat up the 4th book.
Very definitely a story for men, written by a man (obviously). Randy Morden had a tough upbringing. Time after time the cards seemed stacked against him-but his temper and fighting skills brought him through. He had no way of knowing that the god Anubis manipulated him, challenged him until the time was right. Randy was jailed, accused of murder when Anubis stepped in and gave him a choice. His life a shambles, Randy jumped at the chance, and found himself on Fovea under the control of another god, War. On Fovea, magic is real, technology is non-existent and people fight with swords and bows using horses when possible. The men rule and for the most part the women are ruled (like I said-written by a man).
To begin with I was annoyed by the man-centered society and by Randy and his attitude toward women, though it fit the feudal society. As the story progressed and the world grew around him, I realized women controlled the men around them in their own way. Fovea is fascinating, but a little overwhelming in the beginning. It took focus to keep the characters, races and places straight as Randy tumbled along, trying to figure out just what the god War wanted of him. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Indomitus Est: Book One of the Fovean Chronicles by Robert Brady will grab you once you open the book, it will hold you down and you will watch those pages turn and turn and turn some more until the last page. You'll need to make sure that you have your seatbelt on because you will be going on a great fantasty journey with some twists and turns and it's going to be fun. There is a lot of action and spell casting. As the reader is reading the story they feel as though they are a part of the story. This story is well written. It has great character and storyline development. It is hard to find good fantasy books but Robert Brady has given us a classic epic fantasy. I gave this book 5 stars but it deserves many, many more. This book would make a great gift for anyone. I highly recommend it for everyone, especially if you enjoy reading action, fantasy, magic, adventure, technology and history. I look for more from Robert Brady. Now on to book 2 of the series.
Indomitus Est is the story of a man from our world named Randy Morden, a former sailor in the Nuclear Navy and a history buff. Selected by the dying god Anubis as a thing to trade to a foreign god named War, Randy finds himself in a world where magic is real, technology is mostly unexplored, and justice is made on the edge of a sword.
Randy is a man without faith. He knows the will of his 'god.' He knows the consequences of hell. In a world of absolutes, Randy tries to decipher his own destiny and balance the will of War with the consequences of his own actions - not always successfully.
Indomitus Est is a study of the meaning of power and consequence
I received this book for free via Goodreads Giveaway. Review posted on Amazon as well.
So this strongly remind me of Edgar Rice Burroughs John Carter of Mars, which I really enjoyed as well. The author packs A LOT of story into this first volume, and it was fun to read, especially if one enjoys the sword and sorcery style of fantasy. It should be interesting to see what direction the next books take, as this book had a lot of build up to it.
I'm the author of this book, so I think it's great. I don't want to do self-promotion that way - but if you look at the PREVIOUS edition of this book (before it was picked up by Sky Warrior Publishing), you'll see a lot of people liked it, which is why Sky Warrior picked it up
