Thank you BookSirens for giving me the opportunity to read this book and a thank you to author Shade Owens as well!! This my honest review at completion of the book.
This book definitely kept me on my toes! I felt a little lost at times but that was 100% my fault for not having read the first book. Which I will now do before the next book is released!
Leo, Niles and Marco are convicts on set of secluded islands. Islands that house all the the most hardened criminals. They’re put there to fend for themselves by the government in order to save resources and money rather than housing them in a prison system.
The trio must navigate the islands as they work to get to Society Land. The most civilized part of of the islands. In order to do so however, they must traverse through the area where the most hardcore of the prisoners reside and work out their sentences.
There are twists and many trials for the men. The terrain, being one but the humans vying for power on the islands with them are the most dangerous. Things do not go smoothly for Leo, our main male character or for his friends Niles and Marcus. This gives the book a realistic feel and make the events feel like a true possibility. Like you’re living the experience right along with our trio.
I could actually imagine something like this happening in our world. Which is a scary thought in itself.
Thank you again Shade Owens and BookSirens!

I loved the first book in this series (see past review), but admit to being a little worried about where a sequel would go. As I picked this one up, however, I quickly found that there is still a LOT of potential for the story as our protagonists continue their journey across the prison islands.
We continue to travel with Leo and Niles, and their new friend Marco, getting away from Gang Island to reach Society Island. Except of course it’s not that clear-cut. Loner Island is in the way, and apparently they’re being hunted.
I’m struck that this second book reminded me a little of The Two Towers, in that a good portion of it is journeying. However, there’s enough going on that the reader is more than happy to stick with the little band, and is certainly rewarded for their time.
By the end, a whole new potential world is opening up - both on the island and with talk of the wider world. America has changed dramatically, and the prisoners are in their situation because of that. But the island isn’t entirely what they thought it was either.
I loved how the protagonists are developing, from genuinely decent guys to almost-survivalists. They adapt to their situation, but hold on to themselves. They’re still only just adults, after all, and being forced to grow up in such a way made me even more sympathetic.
Another excellent chapter, which again left me going ‘More, Please!’

Blood Chase is the second book in the Blood Kings series by Shade Owens. Blood Chase is about men who are convicted of crimes and are sentenced to serve their time on Krimos Islands. Leo and some other men are trying to make their way across the island to Society Land. Society Land is said to be the safest place to live on the island.
But the road in between is a place where the most hardened of criminals live and getting to Society Land may not be as easy as they would hope. Can Leo and his friends make it to Society Land or will they die by the wayside? There are dangers waiting for them around every corner.
Blood Chase is full of twists. Twists that kept me on the edge of my seat hanging on for more as I raced to the end wanting more and more. I can just see Leo and everyone else as they are making their way across the island. I can see them so plainly whenever danger crosses their path. I can see them as they are fighting to stay alive long enough to make it to safety. I can’t wait to read more about Leo and his many adventures on the island in the next book.
Grab your copy of Blood Chase today for another thrilling adventure in the Blood Kings series!

I received a copy of this book from the author.
This is a really good read about a group of hardened male prisoners who the state have decided to abandon on a group of isolated islands to fend for themselves and save the country money in the process.
The main character, Leo and his newfound friend Niles along with Marco, another prisoner, are trying to leave Gang Land (an island) and get to Society Land (another island). First they have to figure out how to cross a stretch of water and bypass yet another island called Loner Land.
Their biggest problems are not the terrain but the other humans that are vying for power.
The descriptions of their trials are realistic with not everything going exactly to plan.
This is a series that I am enjoying and happy to recommend.

This book definitely lived up to my expectations. After reading Blood Kings (1st in series) and finding out there was a sequel I couldn’t wait to get the opportunity to read it. Right from the first page I was immersed in the environment of the Krimos Islands. When reading this book from the amount of detail I felt like I was going through the same things that the main characters were. Definitely a five star read. I can’t wait to read more from this author in the future.

Blood Chase is book 2 in the Blood King Series by Shade Owens. The Blood King Series is a thriller/horror series and I find this series to be riveting! Leo and Niles were sentenced to Krimos Islands where serial killers and sociopath criminals are sent to live out there life. The pair are trying to get to Society Land where there is some sense of humanity. But, to get there is dangerous. Blood Chase is so good and often frightening. Shade Owens has written a masterful series. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

This was excellent! A brilliant second part to this new & exciting dystopian series! I loved the characters & general ideas, following the previous series theme of using an island for a prison! Much more hoffiying as I felt most of the male prisoners are so much scarier than their female counterparts. Great pace & levels of tension, I absolutely sped through the story, finding myself kept up late reading as I couldn't wait to see what happened! I do recommend & really can't wait to read the next part!

I received this book as an ARC and I can tell you that from the first book ending, I was dying for the sequel and it did not disappoint at all! The development of the characters and the environment around them makes this book almost impossible to put down. The seamless transitions from the first to second book has me just as excited for the 3rd!

An excellent continuation of Blood Kings as Nile, Leo and their new friend Marco, escape their current demise to make their way to a 'better place'. Not as easy as it sounds as they encounters all kinds of danger and mishaps on their journey. Fast paced and entertaining. Highly recommended. I feel like I took every step through the jungle along with Leo, Niles, and Marco. The characters in this book are so vividly written that, for me, reading this book was almost like watching a movie, but with more depth.
Keep up the great work Shade Owens
