This book is written in the past tense. The past of regular weak verbs presents little or no difficulty in reading. The infinitives of irregular weak and of strong verbs which may be difficult to recognize from their past-tense forms and past participles are identified in the footnotes where such forms first appear. Words whose meaning the student cannot be expected to infer from form and context are translated in the footnotes on first occurrence.
