The Fangover

Rate this book
When rock-god vampire Johnny Malone commits suicide, the rest of The Impalers gather for an Irish wake and jam session to send their bandmate off in style. But alcohol-laced blood and grief make for one hell of a combination...

When her brother, Johnny, dies, Stella Malone’s grief lands her in the buff arms of The Impalers’ bass player. While her tryst with Wyatt had some serious bite, Stella isn’t looking for a relationship, especially after a tipsy argument leads to her getting stuck in bat form at the wake. The rest of the hungover Impalers are in no shape to help her, meaning that Stella’s one night stand is the only one who can help her figure out what really happened last night. Only Wyatt doesn’t have a clue what happened last night, either, nor does he know that Stella is the bat currently dive-bombing his head. But he does have her purse and that has to be a start, right? Or not.

On the other hand, there is a priest passed out in the bathtub and an alcoholic parrot squawking about a chapel of love...

Which might explain the ring on Berto Cortez’s finger. How did a night of rock ’n’ roll debauchery result in him turning sexy washboard player Katie Lambert into a vampire and then marrying her? He wouldn’t. He couldn’t. But he can’t quite remember, exactly. Which means these four friends turned amnesiac couples have only one choice: hit the famed Bourbon Street for some answers...

I feel I must disclose the fact that I've only seen The Hangover once and, no, I've never seen Bridesmaids. So fans of the movie might read The Fangover and go, 'That's a hilarious homage to Scene X' whereas I read it and went, 'That's so random. Why on Earth did the authors choose to do that?!?'

Personally speaking, I think a book that is going to be sold for $15 a pop should appeal to everyone, not just people who enjoy zany mishaps that do not follow a logical order. I mean, if it were me and I lost a night (which would be freaking terrifying), I'd immediately go online to check my bank accounts because I never carry much cash on me. There would be an immediate record of my doings for the missing time. However, that doesn't work for this book too well as one of the heroes, Cort, apparently has an inexhaustible wad of cash, slapping down bills at every place he goes to.

I think this is the fault of the movie, but The Fangover is pretty much a 'telling' book. They go into a bar, 'What happened to us?!?', character A says, 'You! How dare you come back here after you did blah blah!' and then they go into another bar. 'What happened to us?!?' Character B says, 'You! How dare you return after blah di blah.' Repeat and rinse. If the authors hadn't felt the need or desire to follow (presumably) the movie's plot so steadfastly, I feel this could have been an interesting look at how memories define us.

There's half a fragment of an interesting scene between Cort and Katie, his heroine, where they're looking at pictures. From pg. 149 in the ARC:

Katie stared at those people, unable to correlate that she was looking at herself and Cort. They might look like them, but those people had to be someone else.

And in truth, she felt jealous of them. She wanted that for herself. She wanted those feelings. She wanted that connection. That touch.

She and Cort had an amazingly unbelievable night together that neither of them remembers. Can you be in a relationship if you don't know how you got together? Unfortunately, McCarthy & Love plunge us right back into Unfortunate Misunderstandings and the moment is lost.

I think it also helps if you've read more of Love's books and already understand how her vampires operate. There's not a lot of world-building here since it was more about figuring out what happened, so I was kinda O.o when the werewolves started making cameos.

So in a nutshell, if you liked The Hangover and have a clear recollection of how it goes, you will probably like this book. If you are a fan of Love's other Impaler books, you will probably like this book. If you are looking for a story to sink into so you can while away a lazy Saturday afternoon, keep looking.

This book was hysterical! I'm not usually a huge fan of paranormal romance or urban fantasy - but I really enjoyed this one. It was a funny, light read that I was looking for.

Johnny, the drummer from the vampire band, The Impalers, has died. His sister, Stella, is grief stricken, and ends up sleeping with Wyatt, another band member, who's been in love with her for years. Stella's not sure what to do what that whole situation on top of her brother's death, but she goes ahead with Johnny's last request and organizes a big Irish wake to send him off. What she doesn't count on is anyone remembered what happened the night before. There's also a whole lot more problems that what Stella should do about Wyatt - she's stuck in bat form, there's a priest passed out in the bathroom, one of the vamps is missing a fang, and someone's turned a human, possibly against her will.

The Fangover is obviously a spoof of The Hangover but that didn't make this one anything other than enjoyable. The plot was totally absurd. But it was the characters that made it. The situations that they got themselves into the night before were fantastic and it was hilarious seeing them backtrack their steps. The romance thrown in was an added benefit.

I liked this one a lot more than I ever thought I would and I will be tuning in for the next one to see the aftermath of Saxon's wedding to a dominatrix.

As a side note - Saxon is the most hilarious character in this book. Whoever has heard of a vampire being obsessed with Chap Stick?

The story starts with Johnny leaving a crude suicide note… as a vampire it was seriously hard to kill yourself. Of course, Stella who was his sister felt like he had left her and her way to cope was to sleep with Wyatt. The problem is that no one can remember what they did and why they can’t remember almost as if they had amnesia. Katie wakes up and finds that she is a vampire and also is married to Cort. Of course she is attracted to Cort, but it was almost like he didn’t want to be with her that way. They all try to go through the night to find out if there is any way to see what they did the stories that they received never really told the whole story.
While they all try to figure it out, we find out that Saxon is in love with his Dom, Katie and Cort fall further in love, Stella and Wyatt fall in love… and come to find out Johnny didn’t die but he faked it because some woman is claiming that she got pregnant by him. Of course that is not possible since he is a vampire.

I thought this was the most ridiculous book but still cute, you really mean to tell me that you can not digest food but alcohol can still get you pissy drunk. The hi-jinx that they were caught up in was hilarious though..lol

From the title, you can guess what exactly Erin McCarthy and Kathy Love want to tell you. The Fangover is indeed a parody of The Hangover with vampire pose as rock band and roaming the night street at Loussiana. Now, maybe you wonder if Bradley Cooper can made a sexy vampire than Robert Pattinson? I will vote for yes, and maybe Twilight will become better movie (just kidding :)) ). The Fangover follow the story of the Impalers, famous rock band with vampires as its members. They just grieve upon Johnny Malone's death. Well, Johnny decide to suicide with jumping into the sun (literally),left a note that founded by his sister, Stella Malone and fellow member Wyatt Axelrod. Sad, angry and grieve, Stella turn her sorrow by having sex with Wyatt. On Johnny ashes. Now that scene make my brow wiggling. I don't mind with steamy sex, but the first sex between Stella and Wyatt is too soon. Not to forget that Wyatt have crush on Stella for 40 years, and Stella's reaction after their sex make Wyatt.. a little bit hurt.

The Impalers then hold a wake for Johnny. That's also mean partying until you hangover by blood-induced-alcohol. Which make all hell come loose. The Impalers member don't know what happen the morning after that. Stella is nowhere to seen, the keyboardist Saxon find his forehead have cross scar on it, Drake lost his fangs, and Cort, the vocalist find he's already married with finger on his pinkie. The worst thing, they turn a human into vampire. And the (un)lucky victim is Katie Lambert, who also become Cort's wife! There's parrot that love singing Barry White's song and a priest found sleep in the bathroom. What happen in the wake actually? Why all of them can't remember anything. So, Wyatt try to find Stella, then they roaming the Bourbon street (in the night, of course) to find the answer. Cort and Katie also search the priest (who turn to be stripper in gay club), why they're married and the most important, why Cort turn Katie to become vampire. The more they search, the more confusing they had. And of course, the romance also bloom between the couples.

The Fangover is not anthology, but a full novel contain two main story about Wyatt-Stella and Cort-Katie. Erin McCarthy write about Wyatt and Kathy Love write Cort. What I like from The Fangover is, the story between that two is intertwining yet I can differ the writing style between the authors and not feel weird. I will not said they successfully make the parody of The Hangover, so some part is kind of flat for me. But they manage to hold the suspense and the mystery until the end of chapter. And add some twist in the last scene. Just a reminder, don't read the blurb of book 2, Fangs for Nothing, if you want to know what twist it is.

Even I like the heroes, I have issues with the heroines, especially Stella. I feel a little bit sad for Wyatt, since Stella's feeling is vague about him, but she using him for sex. Yes, I know they both like it, but it just my preference that the heroine at last don't play too hard when the hero said "love" to her. Both Ms McCarthy and Ms Love write steamy sex scenes, but mostly from Wyatt and Stella rather than Katie-Cort. Maybe because they already become friends for long.

If you love your paranormal romance light, fluffy and have humor, also love rockstars (or rock bands), try reading The Fangover. And don't forget to imagine Bradley Cooper as vampire. Oh, yummmm....

Better start off being honest. I knew about this book, mainly because Erin McCarthy is part of the duo writing it and I happen to love her work. Was I terribly interested in reading it, though? Well, it was probably one of those "Oh yeah I gotta get to that someday". Of course, I also thought this had two separate novellas. Then I happen to win an ARC of this at RAW and my grabby hands had to read it right away. Well, I was so pleasantly surprised!

Call me whatever you want but I didn't co-relate the fact that the book is called "The Fangover" with the movie "The Hangover". Yeah, that joke went right over my head (see what happens when you're not paying attention?). And that is exactly how I can possibly describe this book.

Vampire rocker kills himself (meets the sun) and his friends are throwing him a funeral "party". They get a little tipsy and somehow they all wake up the next day without recollection of how that night ended or what happened. All they know is that a human was turned and got married to one of the band members (vampire), the dead vamps sister is stuck in bat form, another band member is missing a fang and oh yeah, there's a passed out human priest in the bath tub. And let's not forget about the parrot! Now they just have to backtrack and try to figure out what went down.

So, there are actually two main couples throughout this story. One is Stella and Wyatt. Stella is Johnny's sister (dead vamp). Wyatt has been a member of the band for a while and has had a crush on Stella for just about that long. This was just the perfect opportunity for him to show her that he would be there for her and that they can be good together. I liked the fact that their romance started before the drunken behavior night and that we are given glimpses into their past. Even though Stella got on my nerves a bit at times, Wyatt made up for being extra sweet and caring while still being hot.

Then there's Cort and Katie. I actually enjoyed them a bit more. Katie used to be human and was part of the day band. Cort has had a crush on her for a while but humans have always been off limits so he stayed away. Now, not only did he turn her but he married her. I thought their romance was cuter even though I also wanted to pull my hair at their lack of communication and misunderstandings.

In the end, this book was a fun parody, not meant to showcase deep emotions but to make you laugh and it definitely achieved that in my opinion. A little bit of comic relief while throwing in some sexy vamps who are just not all there.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:

I've been excited for this release since the last time that LITERAL ADDICTION hosted Kathy Love and then Erin McCarthy separately for Author Events and we chatted about it a bit in the Live chat with Erin.

I jumped on it the minute it was auto-delivered to my Kindle and spent the night laughing, shaking my head with a smile and ultimately loving the light-heartedness and cohesiveness of the tale.

As the intro states, Kathy and Erin each took a different couple and wrote their tales and then sat down and worked out the timeline and chapter layout. When all was said and done, what they ended up with was a Paranormal Hangover/Bridesmaids spoof with lots of humor and mystery, revolving around some truly lovable characters and a wonderful setting, all wrapped up with 2 unique love stories and some fun surprises.

All in all, it was sex, blood, & rock-n-roll and I found myself asking "What more could you want?", then answering with: "Maybe an alcoholic parrot singing Barry White, a priest in a bathtub, a curiously missing fang, a couple of wedding rings, a newly made vampire, & an Elvis cookie jar!?"

The Fangover was entertainment that only Erin McCarthy & Kathy Love could provide! It had lots of laughs, red-hot romance, baffling intrigue & surprise and was truly a mood-lifting read.

LITERAL ADDICTION gives The Fangover 4 Skulls.

While far from my favorite book in Love's series, this book definitely had me laughing.

Part of me really wishes the authors hadn't tried to stick so closely to the movie and just kind of gone their own way. However, the story was interesting and loads if fun.

I have read all of the books in the Young Brothers series and the New Orleans Vampires series...while these don't really flow in the same way amd don't include any of the old characters it was definitely easier to follow and sink my teeth into with my background knowledge.

I am a little iffy about the next book in this series....I have already purchased it and will start it soon...just not so sure how I feel about these co-authored books so far. Fingers crossed!

I grabbed this book thinking it was a two person novella and wanting to read some Erin McCarthy. Ooops, RESEARCH!

Anyway this is pretty much exactly the Hangover movies. The only real difference was the paranormal aspect with vampires and a bit of romance with two separate couples. As I have seen both I can say that this book was pretty dissapointing. I was basically confused for the first quarter and then after that I was bored. The story seemed a little choppy and I suspected the ending from the first couple pages. I wish I could say better things but I was just not impressed.

What the actual fuck? I was SO looking forward to this, I mean it sounds hilarious right? And it started off pretty strong. The story was intriguing, the characters were fun, the atmsphere was vibrant. Then it started to drag on. All the characters did was barhop to try and find clues, which they almost never found, and there was so much random useless sex. I like a good sex scene, and I know that they can be used to move a relationship and a story forward, but when you start skipping through the sex scenes and asking ok but where is the actual story? Then we have a problem. And the resolution at the end? What an anti climax! I would have staked Johnny for faking his death if he was my friend, like what a garbage person you are! His excuse was stupid and trashy and out of nowhere and I hated it. I hated that Raven was this random douchy red herring, I hated that at the very end we find out the reason eveyone blacked out was cuz the bartender didn't want everyone to be sad, like what the actual fuck?? It was bonkers, but not in a good sort of ok I can roll with this kind of way. I was so freaking disappointed and I'm really glad I didn't end up paying for this one and got it off Kindle Unlimited instead, cuz I would be so angry if I'd wasted money on this. The only reason this isn't a 1 star is because I really liked the side characters. Yes, side characters, not the mains. Not that I didn't like the mains, but I found the side characters more interesting.

I remember reading this synopsis and thinking that it was such an awesome idea. This book had all the things I love, Humor, romance, and elements of the supernatural. So why do I give it only three stars? The main thing for me is that it made no impact on me. I definitely laughed at some of the funny aspects of it; I loved some characters, especially the Parrot, Saxton, drake, and the priest. Still, I felt that the two main couples had nothing unique about them. Of course the love stories were slightly different, and the situations they were in were different, but I couldn’t tell you the differences between them. Sometimes I’d read a scene between Cort and Kate, and I couldn’t tell you what was different between their personalities Verses those of Stella and Wyatt, even though the writing was a bit different. For some reason, they just didn’t touch me.

In spite of the book’s flaws, I did enjoy the adventures the characters had while trying to piece together the night none of them could remember. Apparently it was one unforgettable night!

So, I happened upon this book while stalking Kathy Love’s Facebook page. Kathy has written two series that I adore, The Young Brothers Series and The New Orleans Vampire Series. Well, I was so excited to see something new from her and Erin McCarthy that I ran right out and bought it. It turned out being exactly what I had hoped for…a fun, cheeky read with humor, hot sex, love, mystery and vampires.

This is a paranormal version of The Hangover meets Bridesmaids, and with chapter titles like “A Parrot, A Priest and the Slight Problem of an Extra Vampire” and “Find a Beer or Your True Love, Whichever Comes First”, I’m sure you can only imagine the debauchery that ensues with a bunch of vampire band mates in New Orleans. I loved the characters and all of the bizarre circumstances they had to piece together to figure out what had happened the night before and how they had ended up in the mess they were all currently in. Missing fangs, passed out priests in bathtubs and marriage?! Talk about one hell of a night!

However, don’t let the humor turn you away…there’s plenty of steamy moments that will satisfy your smutty urges. WIth two main couples and the writing talents of Erin and Kathy, you can count on some hot scenes that are sure to have your undivided attention. Countertops, couches and alleys…oh my!

All in all, if you’re looking for a light, entertaining read, I recommend this title be on your list!

Thank you Kathy and Erin!

Interesting note: While the authors conceived the story and timeline together, Kathy and Erin each took a couple from the book and wrote their stories separately before combining the pieces and making this book into a whole. Awesome!

Read this review on my blog! --> The Fangover by Erin McCarthy

If you’re wondering if The Fangover is the equivalent of The Hangover but with vampires you’d be partially correct. The Fangover, while set in New Orleans and not Las Vegas, is a story about vampires waking up with one hell of a hangover and not remembering a damn thing about the night before. So much crazyness happens that they need to try to piece it together by retracing their steps.

This book was completely entertaining. I had such a fun time reading it. I felt like I was part of this zany band of friends and was walking along the streets of New Orleans with them. The authors did a fantastic job describing the setting as well. Having been to New Orleans several times, I could really picture everything with such clarity, but I imagine that even if you’ve never been you won’t have a hard time seeing yourself there either.

I really enjoyed all of the characters. Each of them had such unique personalities. Even the parrot! I really laughed quite a bit while reading. We get to see some smexy action from two of the band members, Wyatt and Cort, and they both definitely brought it. Though if I had to choose, I’d say I probably favored Cort over Wyatt. He just seemed oh so sexy. It must have been those eyes. :)

If you’re looking for a fun, stand-alone book, with some vampires, humor, and a great setting, The Fangover is the book for you.

A bloody good time for fans of paranormal romance!

Two authors join forces to bring you a new hilarious romance version of The Hangover with an erotic supernatural twist.

Two couples find themselves in a strange situation with no memory of how they ended up there. We follow them on their journey to figure out what happened and, let me tell you, it is one hell of a good time! Parrots, priests, and Elvis memorabilia (oh my!) not to mention a missing fang... And maybe even a Wedding?

I'm certainly going to look into more books from each of these two lovely ladies. This book had sugar, spice, and everything naughty with plenty of hot moments that take place anywhere and everywhere. It was steamy but also hilarious good fun. What more could you ask for?

Kathy Love and Erin McCarthy are two outstanding writers with a penchant for the paranormal. Both of them do a fantastic job of blending their ideas into an exciting and fascinating story that will leave you begging for another. I know that I personally would love to see another all new story or even a sequel from Kathy and Erin. They absolutely make a perfect team!

I highly recommend this for fans of Paranormal Romance who like a little but of spice with their supernatural!

The Fangover is a fun enjoyable read that is a spin on the excellent film, The Hangover but with vampires. The main characters are from a rock band named The Impalers and although all members of the band (apart from Johnny who committed suicide) wake up after Johnny’s memorial with total memory loss of the night before, we see the band members retrace their steps to find out what happened.

This story focusses mainly on band members, Wyatt and Cort as they don’t just unravel what happened during their crazy night of antics but they also discover they have let go of their inhibitions and pursued the two females who have stolen their hearts for many years.

The Fangover is a joint effort by Ms McCarthy and Ms Love and with some really likeable characters this story has some funny moments, some wacky moments and hot sexy moments. What more can a reader ask for? I will definitely be reading the second instalment to see what The Impalers are up to next.

When Johnny, the drummer of the vampire band The Impalers commits suicide his sister, friends and bandmates throw him a heck of a wake. In fact the party was so outrageous that nobody seems to remember what happened. Johnny’s sister Stella got so drunk she turned into a bat and was having trouble turning back. It seems that human musician Katie Lambert got turned and married to Impaler Cort. Drake is missing a fang and Saxon has a cross burn on his forehead. Maybe he got it from the priest in the bathtub and what the heck is it with the alcoholic parrot?
The Fangover answers these questions and more. This is a funny rollicking tale of unrequited love, alcohol induced silliness and happiness found. Read this when you need a giggle. I plan to preorder the next installment Fangs for Nothing out in July 2013.

I truly enjoyed this book. Erin McCarthy and Kathy Love brought characters to life that were fun and easy to love. You can't go wrong with immortal vampire rockers right?
After a death of a band mate the rest of the members decide the best way to honor their friend was to party hard. Well even vampires can party too hard. They all wake up the next night with no memory of what happened. That's where the fun kicks in.
Why are two married? Why is one missing a fang? Why is there a priest passed out in the bathtub? They need to know so they they take to the streets of New Orleans to find answers.
Intertwined with this wild goose chase is two developing love stories that steal the show.
It's a great spin on the traditional vampire novel. It will leave you with a smile on your face. What more could you ask for? 5 stars across the board.

I found the ending strangely funny. And I won't deny how the unfolding of events('cause apparently they don't remember a thing of what happened the night before)made me think of what really happened. Even in my sleep, it won't stop tugging my frontal lobes.

Johnny isn't really dead! I'm such a teaser, am I not? ;-)

Oh and there's these scenes. First there's the staring passionately, then the kissing, then. . . . dot dot dot.

It's really quite the book I'd recommend especially to those who find vampires hot! ♥♥♥

If you are a fan of a the movie "The Hangover", then this book will be right up your alley as that is what it is, only with vampires in New Orleans. Lots of crazy things happen, none of them remember anything and they back track to figure things out. In the end they all are pretty happy with what happened.

This paranormal romance had a pretty entertaining plot setup and started right off steamy but there was not much action in the story. I do like when the male pursues the female and two love interests was nice. When Stella's brother dies, Wyatt says he'll be there for her and Katie has turned vampire so Cort helps her adjust.

Cute, quick read. I've got books by both Erin McCarthy and Kathy Love that have been sitting forever in the TBR pile so this was a good way to get a feel for both authors in one go. They worked well together and the transitions felt pretty seamless.

Story revolves around 2 couples: Wyatt & Stella and Cort & Katie as they both try to piece together the drunken escapades of the night before.

At first I had to get into this story, but soon I couldn't put it away while reading it.
There are some twists in this story I didn't see coming.
Luckily the mystery why they all forgot what happened that night dd get solved at the end.

Two stories in one book work fine, because they belong to the same group of friends/band.
Looking forward to read more in this series.

This book was just okay; not really enough meat to the story(ies) to hold my interest and I skipped pages throughout the book to get to the end more quickly. For those looking for a light read this might fit the bill, but if you prefer a vampire story with bite to it this is not the book for you.
