How did she get herself into this? Trapped for two weeks with her biological father in the outback. With Giants. Xandra's convinced this trip is going to be a nightmare, and the fates are determined not to let her down. But, with Kallen and her friends by her side, there isn't anything she can't handle. Right?
2. My children. (Please don’t tell my kids I listed fans before them. You may cause a riot in my home. They’re pretty feisty kids.)
3. My cats and dogs when they’re not making me sniffle, sneeze, rub my eyes or irritating my asthma. (Scratch that, they always do and I love them anyway.)
4. Writing. (I would have listed this first, but it would have looked bad. Worse than putting fans before my kids.)
5. Good friends. (Fortunately, I have several.)
6. Quiet evenings at home in front of the fireplace reading a good book. (Please, like that’s going to happen with five kids in the house - but I can dream can’t I?)
7. I got stuck here so I asked a couple of friends to tell me their fondest memory of me. This is what I got:
Deb: It was when you used to babysit Michael and rode the horse in Meijer so he could ride with you. Also......my first trip to TX for a wedding. You were at my house and said you would put my clothes in the dryer when they were done. Needless to say, the next morning I had to pack wet clothes in my suitcase. The airline lost my luggage for 4 days so when I finally got it back, my clothes were all mildewed. (Okay, in my defense – I was twelve at the time. The sad thing is, I still forget to put clothes in the dryer.)
Michele: I have too many…but one of the first that popped in my head was how you drove all the way to Chicago to look at my apartment for me because I was too hung over, and then gave me all the details so I could pretend I was there. You are a good friend... (It was only a seven hour round trip. What are friends for?)
Joe: A particular Domino’s pizza delivery and you invited the delivery guy inside…(I’m going to stop there because my ex-husband thinks he’s funny.)
For obvious reasons, I didn’t ask anyone else.
Hates:
1. Puppies, kittens, babies, sunshine, peace on earth, goodwill, recycling, education, gifts, and sweets of any kind. (Really, I do.)
2. Being facetious. (I would never dream of it!)
3. People who don’t read my books. (Well, maybe not all of them. But, most of them.)
4. People who always manage to stop by the house when I look terrible. (You know who you are…)
5. Lumberjacks. (Don’t know why, just do.)
Now that you know everything about me, you should drop by my Facebook page to tell me all about you.
I love these stories, and I love the characters. However, I'm ready to see some growth in Xandra. I realize only a short period of time has passed for her in all of these books, but, she's asking to be treated as an adult, so she should act like one. I'm ready for her to really see the difference between a Father and a Dad, but I'm also ready to see her try to work on her relationship with Dagda. I'm ready to see her move past the need to "show off" her magic over every little threat, and I'm really ready to see her develop more control over smaller things. As another reviewer said, I'm ready to see Mom and Dad move on as well. They mostly seem to interrupt her time with Kallen, or have to be told what's just happened because they were somewhere else. All the chest beating between her Dad and Dagda is starting to get a little stale. I'm actually glad they played such a small part in this book, and things seemed to progress much faster without having to rehash what had just happened because Mom and Dad weren't in the room. It was nice to see Xandra use the logic skills she has, and I like the character, I just like her more when she's not being a typical snarky teenager. All that said, I do enjoy the series greatly and will continue reading.
Xandra keeps asking to be treated like an adult and some of her situations, she does act like an adult but obviously not all of them. She made an error at the end of the book that had me incredibly anxious to read the next one. The one question I have in my mind is, why does it matter if she has to be married.. it doesn't make sense. Oh well this book was pretty awesome and the cliffhanger makes me glad I have the next novel lined up.
I am a huge fan of this series and this book is no exception. Xandra and Kallen's adventures continue as they travel with her father to seek out a truce between giants on the brink of war. Very engaging and action packed, the ending coming way too quickly and you are anxiously awaiting the next book.
Great book! Editing has improved since the first book and the story line and characters are just as wonderful as the last 4 books! (Six if you include Kallen's tales.)
I just started reading book #6! I really love these books and I love how quickly they release. Bonnie is fantastic!
This is one of my fave book series. Each book is even better than the last. This one was no exception. I cannot say enough good things about this series. I can't wait for the next one.
The covers for this series do not do the books any justice but the story is fun and quick. How I wish they had different covers, but I will live. I was not expecting that ending so I can only imagine the shenanigans Xandra will be getting herself into in the next installment. Definitely will have to make this series a priority to finish this year.
This review is for books till Book #8. Recommendation? Stop reading at Book#7.5
I've a different review posted for Book#8. But from 1-7, this series is just awesome.
Xandra is coming of age and learns a whole new world and about herself. She deals with many challenges and comes off as any teenager - a bit confused, a bit arrogant, chastened by elders and at times rebellious.
Kallen is the character that shines in this series. He is powerful but his power is easily overshadowed by the more powerful Xandra. Yet he never lets that affect his ego or his relationship with Xandra. He manages to come off as the more mature, in-charge person. The intimate scenes between the duo are at the same time passionate and tender.
There is a lot of "wow-gorgeous" falling-for-looks-mainly thing happening but the way the characters are depicted takes away the sting of it.
Overall - the series till Book 7.5, has a natural easy flow of stories without awkward pauses or WTF moments. Totally recommend!
I'm serious. They're getting way better. I'm reading them instead of sleeping :) I like Xandra. She's a sarcastic lady, and I actually laughed out loud with some of the things she thinks and says. Really easy to read. I only wish they were longer! :D
I'm excited to see what happens next, as the ending of this book was a big wow factor. tee-hee.. No spoilers, I promise ;)
This book was definitely interesting their was a lot of action and the giants were very unique and funny. Then the spin that was put on the love story was very delicate but sexual tension was off the chart...looking forward to the next series ! EB
Kallen is for sure good for her. now they are gonna have a wedding. even though that angle didn't record it didn't mean it didn't happen. and the think that she just defeated three daemons.
I love this book series! I can not get enough. I just finished the fifth book in a day. Love the author and the way she writes. Very good and addicting.
