"It s better to be a bad witch than a dead one. "

A "Bad Witch" Story

One thing stands between Catherine Duquesne and happily-ever-after with her soul mate Lex her unwanted bond with billionaire vampire Zachary Harrison. Married life is hard enough without adding an uninvited vampire to the mix, and being tied to Zach endangers more than just her relationship. If Zach dies, she dies, and with his new seat on the necromancer council being challenged by older, more powerful masters, his life expectancy is dwindling fast.

Vampire politics is only the beginning of Cat s problems. Hunters are stalking magicians, abducting entire families and killing anyone who resists. As the current Titania and Oberon, Cat and Lex must protect their people, but Cat s dark past keeps the victims from seeking their help. Worse, the former Titania s granddaughter wants to oust Cat from the job, believing her vampire ties make her unfit.

To break the bond Cat must broker deals with devils on a journey that will take her to hell and back literally. Freedom comes at a high price, but Cat will risk anything to save her people and her marriage.

Warning: This book contains explicit language, faerie shenanigans, a field trip to hell, even more magician sex, and gratuitous violence against vampires, demons, hunters, helicopters and the kitchen sink. And if you want to know how the very sexy Lex swept Cat off her feet, check out "Blood, Smoke and Mirrors." "

I beta-read this, so obviously I'm not entirely objective. But there's dragons versus helicopters, and I'm not sure what else one really needs in a book.

If anything I think that Bewitched, Blooded and Bewildered is even better than Blood, Smoke and Mirrors. Cat really comes into her own in this one, no more Mrs. Nice Witch. She fully accepts herself as a bad witch and runs with it. She has the mouth of a sailor and a seriously rapier wit. I only wish I could be half as sharp in real life. I laughed out loud more than once, especially at some of the modern media references (fighting Louis, turning into Darth Vader, Bruce Wayne and Batman)...all very funny. The book also felt more focused than the last, leaving fewer questions at the end. I still feel sorry for poor Zach, but am looking forward to seeing what happens to Portia and Faust. Honestly, I probably would have the book it five stars if it hadn't ended so abruptly. I didn't see it coming at all. At 92% (on the Kindle) it suddenly ended. It was so unexpected that I was literally startled when the "more books by Robyn Bachar" screen came up instead of the start of the next chapter. This left me feeling like it was unfinished. Of course, in a sense it isn't since it is part of a series. But it feels very much like a just read the first 10 or so chapters of a larger book than an entire story. A challenge was overcome, as opposed to the challenge (if that makes any sense.) Either way I'll be reading the next one.

These books are so weird. I still don't know how I feel about them. The previous book was so good and then we flip back to a different POV and I'm ... lost again.

So, we join Lex and Cat, who are still struggling with Cat and Zach's blood connection. One good thing to come out of that relationship? Faust. He is totally the star here, but I digress. There were rumblings in previous books about some magical folks disappearing at the hands of black ops types and that continues here. What's the one thing that can get supernatural folks over their petty issues? Nothing, but, well, maybe this. As the disappearances continue to climb, Cat and Lex are forced to gather their varied resources. Oh, and, yeah, the blood link that was so impossible to break and might never let them be free? That is addressed quickly in the first part of this book.

Sooooo, act 1 shows us how silly we were for believing that the "big thing" was so big. Act 2 begins with a resolution to the other "big thing" - Riley's challenge to Cat's authority. Also resolved here. Also stupid quick. That left just the big bad in the form of kidnappings and general end of the world level stuff. I won't say that was easy, because it wasn't and there's a lot of carnage, but that's pretty much still in the same place at the end here, waiting for another installment (which, of course, I will read with my book club ladies).

Overall impressions? Maybe I'm just bad at spotting what the big story line is? Or overly grossed out by gross questionable consent things? Either way, I think the previous book was still my favorite here. Can we go back to Riley?

This book is part of a series and whilst it can be read as a standalone I would recommend reading the previous books first .

Cat has accepted the position of Titania to the Faeries with her partner Guardian Lex accepting the position of Oberon .
She is still trying to break her bond with necromancer Zachery Harrison ( if he dies so does she ) whilst coming to terms with her powers ........... if only she had the necessary time to learn the necessary skills ......... her position is under threat , challenges are forthcoming . Zach also has his troubles - he is being challenged for his seat on the Council .
With the Hunters , part of team Force Prometheus , attacking , with the aid of Demons - Cat and Lex along with Zachery will have their work cut out to protect their own and just survive themselves .

This is a fast paced , entertaining , paranormal fantasy with great characters and a complex plotline that lovers of this genre will enjoy .
I was given an arc of the book by NetGalley and the Publisher in exchange for an honest review

Cat and Lex are surrounded by problems that make life less than idyllic for these soulmates. She has been unable to find a spell that will sever the bond that was forced on her by the necromancer Zachery Harrison, supernatural creatures are being kidnapped and killed across Chicago by the Prometheus Group who are being aided by demons and to top it all off Riley O’Driscoll is challenging her for the position of Tatiana.

Another quick, easy read in the series, still the same problems as previous books but t
his one seems more complete and not as rushed, although I would have enjoyed a longer book.

4/5 STARS: **This is an honest, unbiased review. I would like to thank the author and/or/publisher for providing an ARC through Netgalley, all opinions are mine.**

Chicago is a wonderful setting for supernatural contemporary tales, as the Dresden Files have shown. This heroine has a lot more going on and she speaks the local patois much better than that Harry fellow.

By this installment she has found her soulmate, the Guardian Lex, who has accepted the position of Oberon so that she can serve as Titania to the local fairies. The ongoing genocide attacks on the witch, mage, shifter and necromancer communities has reached a terrible point--- Samhain is coming and only one practitioner capable of banishing the demons behind it remains.

It's time for the feuding supernatural communities to come together, and Cat with her mix of Witch, fairy and dark magical inheritance is the woman for the task.

New and known characters join forces in this adventure. There’s never a dull moment and the book moves quickly. I enjoy that the characters are not good or evil, each has some gray in them. This author is one to be remembered for a fun supernatural tale that has plenty of intrigue.

Having loved the first book in the series, this installment shouted “Read me!” I’m so glad I did.

I loved Cat and Lex in Blood, Smoke and Mirrors and was thrilled to get to review Bewitched, Blooded and Bewildered.

As you’d expect in a sequel, there’s less world building in this story and therefore who is who and what the rules are may be less clear for the first time reader, but if you’ve read the first one that shouldn’t be a problem. And if you haven’t read Blood, Smoke and Mirrors, you might want to.

Cat has developed and continues to develop skills in both fighting and magic department—skills she definitely needs both as an unwilling member of Zach’s “Team Evil” and Titania. As a relative newbie in both positions, there are more experienced/better qualified beings who think they have a right to both spots. Cat would happily give away her blood-bond with Zach, but it isn’t quite that simple. All this makes Cat’s marriage to her soul mate, the studly, ex-guardian Lex… complicated. Which sends them on a trip to Hell—literally. While the solution to some of the problems did come a bit easy, it worked for me.

I love how Ms. Bachar blurs the lines of good and evil in her characters. Like real people, no one is just one thing. Everyone has motives and, happily, in this story, the motives make sense. I particularly appreciated how “good” people in Bewitched, Blooded and Bewildered occasionally make bad decisions, and how sometimes the best intentions have bad results. Best of all, “bad” creatures can actually be good, or at least better than those labeled good. It makes for a complicated, yet realistic world. Very fun to read.

Ms. Bachar does a fabulous job creating three-dimensional, quirky, secondary characters with unexpected loyalties which I especially enjoyed.

Keep ‘em coming, Ms. Bachar, I’ll have my eye out for future installments.

I really enjoyed book one - a freebie and eargerly ordered book two. it doesn't dispppoint. cat is stuck with a dangerous blood bond with vampire Zach. Her husband Lex (swoon) is naturally not happy about this as if Zach dies so does Cat, added to that Zach and Cat can feel each others emtions and talk mentally to each other. Zach thinks he loves Cat so is happy to share the bond but she and Lex are secretly searching for a way to break it - the consequeces of which lead them into needing help from a demon.
Its an action packed adventure with the serch for getting Cat free of the bond, challenges to thier Titania and Oberon roles, threat to her life from vampires who resent her and the problems of the human hunters that affects them all though only Lex and Cat seem able to see it. Once again Zach - who should be Mr Nasty and is much of the while - shows his caring side to Cat and despite her resentment she finds herself agreeing with him on the need for all cultrues to work together. Easier said than done though when the contract ofr her life is on from the vampires, the fae are out to kill vampires in retunr for the loss of one of their one and Cat is still outcast by the withces for killing someone in defence of her life. Can they pull it all togehter in time to save everyone? well - read it - you won't be disappointed :) I hope there's more to follow from ms Bachar's pen ( or PC....) as its a great world to be involved in, Zach, Cat and Lex make a great trio, unwilling though they are they have the sprak between them that keeps one reading. I'd love to read more of Portia and Faust too - they have lots of hidden depth i think. I'm sure as Titiania and Oberon there is potential for lots more stories from this world ( and now I ought to check to see if there are any out already - if there are i'll be buying) Its definatley a keeper sereis as one to be re read in the future and that makes it value for money.

Library Journal review:

Bachar, Robyn. Bewitched, Blooded and Bewildered. Samhain. (Bad Witch). 2012. NAp. eISBN 9781609289638. EPUB $5.50. PARANORMAL ROMANCE
Catherine is having a very stressful month. She’s a fairy-blooded witch dealing with a challenge to her newly appointed title as Tatiana while trying to discover who or what is responsible for a string of murders and disappearances in the paranormal community. An unwanted bond with a vampire is wreaking havoc on her new marriage to her soul mate, Lex. Unfortunately for Catherine, sexual dreams about the vampire are much hotter than anything she gets up to with Lex. Bachar’s book is steeped in pop culture references with a distinct sense of humor that, while resonating with some readers, will quickly date the story. As this is the second in the Bad Witch series (Blood, Smoke and Mirrors), an included extensive glossary is absolutely necessary to provide background on this alternate universe, which features just about every possible supernatural being, including demons and dragons. A list of characters would have been helpful as well, as the extended and overlapping alliances are difficult to keep straight.
Verdict: A confusing plot, lack of sexual chemistry, and cardboard characters make this a hard sell, especially in light of the burgeoning paranormal ebook market.‚ Charli Osborne, Oxford P.L., MI

In general I loved the book, it’s full of good characters, good story, nice tempo and good writing. Just one thing is still nagging me – from time to time I got the feeling as if I have missed a book between Blood, Smoke and Mirrors and Bewitched, Blooded and Bewildered.

And what do you know, it seams I really have – Bloodlines and Broomsticks. Can somebody tell me, is it already published in some anthology or it really is still to come?

But still all in all – good book!

Catherine/Cat had never intended to join Team Evil. But because of her bond with necromancer vampire Councilman Zachary Harrison she was going into a necromancer gathering to fight on the side of Zachary and her husband Lex- who was cat’s soulmate-was definitely not happy about the bond or being there. Zachs and cat’s spirits were stuck together by magical duct tape . If Zach died so did Cat. There were several angry vampires who wanted Zach’s seat on the council. Also Zach was one of the few magicians with the power, money, and chutzpah needed to fight the growing Hunter problem. Without Zach they may all end up dissected on some government slab. Cat’s special talent was being able to smell necromancer magic by scent. Some at the beings at the meeting were minions like Cat or apprentices in vampire training. The official term for her predicament with Zach was blooded. Faust was a shadowspawn faerie and as Titania she should never talk to him -Cat was faerie and a witch- because his family had been kicked out of faerie but as Zach’s minion she talked to Faust all the time. Zach had been challenged by Sir Rousseau and his fore sorcerer which meant Cat had to fight also. Zach had got his eat on the council when Cat and Lex had killed the previous councilwoman Laura BarrelCat had been working on self defense skills the last few weeks - having a former guardian for a husband worked wonders in that department. And Cat had been undergoing some super secret magic spells with her cousin Portia. Then Zach said he needed blood before going into the fight and Cat gave him her wrist. Zach also told cat they had lost another sorcerer and two shapeshifters. The sorcerer was a member of the Salerno family which meant now meant the hunters were attacking sorcerers with family. That meant anyone could be be next. The hunters were part of team Force prometheus who also had demons helping them. The Task force had thousands of magicians names and were working their way through the list. Faust got cats sword and brought orange flames to life along the blade as magic crackled around the weapon. Cat loved faerie magic as she didn’t have to spout spells to use it. Zach was challenged again after he and Cat won by Gregori Petrovich and that fight would be be in a month at the next full moon. Then Faust went and got cat’s hat and the tarot cards had been changed from Justice and The moon to the devil and The ten Of Swords and Cat knew the message behind them. She would have to pick two different cards to put in the band of her top hat or get a new tarot deck. Lex had giver up his job as a guardian to be Cats Oberon and now he wasn’t quite sure what to do with himself. The Titania and oberon gig did keep them occupied but it wasn’t the same as Lex was used to kicking butt for higher powers nit undoing imp mischief and settling squabbles between faerie -blooded magicians. Mac was cats only magician contact . Mac had been kidnapped to be used as leverage against Cat but Mac had been declared dead . he could not go back to business as usual so he was in training to become a vampires librarian. Mac told her to come to him as they had some news. Cat found out there may be a way to break the bind with Zach but she would have to go to the Shadow Land in Hell. She would need a guide.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It was a quick easy read. I loved Lex and Cat together and how they interacted together. I laughed out loud while reading this. I loved it when Cat kept telling Zach to go catch in fire. I do advise you to read the first book in this series as it will make things run smoother while reading this book. I didn’t really find much to criticize in this book except the way it ended. To me it was just so abrupt and I didn’t expect it. I would have liked this to be a little longer and more eased into the ending. I loved the adventure in this book. I also loved seeing the growth Cat was doing with working on her self defense and faerie magic. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend it.
