I give it 3.5 stars as it is not a chick-lit and beginning was a bit long. I couldnt get into reading it. Its a drama. Its actually a good book, I loved the ending and how the mystery regarding how their son died was kept till the end.
I really struggled with this story as it felt obvious and frustrating about what the problem was at the heart of this family. However it did make me cry and was incredibly touching. A slow burn, but if you can make it to the end it is well worth reading.
It was fine to read in the beginning, but as it went on, quite long winded. I eventually enjoyed the characters and story. It all ties in at the end for me and was an enjoyable book.
When Dublin girl Jane married local boy Jim, she thought it was ever. But now there are cracks in their marriage that they just can't seem to fix. Then jim announces he's moving out, and Jane is left to pick up the pieces of their family life. On top of that her mother decides to visit...
Determined to remain upbeat, Jane resolves to make a real success of her work, only to discover that Cutting Edge, the hairdressing empire, is opening a shop just yards away from her own humble salon. With her staff in uproar and customers deserting her in droves, Jane decides to play Cutting Edge at its own game.
Then life deals Jane and Jim on dreadful blow. As past hurts rush to the surface, they are forceds to confront what drove them apart in the first place.
I really enjoyed this book, and thought it was beautifully written - I thought it covered some sensitive issues (don't want to spoil things!) very well. I did think it ended abruptly, but I'm glad it sorted out a few things first!
There was one thing that kept annoying me throughout the book though - the use of the word 'press'!!! I've never heard of it used as what I presume to be a cupboard before??? And it was used many many times, in Jane's house, at the Salon and at Jim's flat???? That's a new one on me LOL
Will definitely look out for others by Tina Reilly.
i really loved reading this book it's about a family who have lost a son and the husband and wif have spilt up and the wife is a hairdresser but another salon opens down the rad from where they are and they have to make their salon work and sheis tryingto raise her two kids a well one is very quiet and they othe one making her mum lifes as hard asshe can but it all works out in the end you need to read it to find the rest out it is a hard to put down and laugh out loud funny and it is a wonderful read hugely engagimg entertining and heart-warming story of the strenth of family ties
this is the second book ive read by tina reilly and im becoming a real fan,i love her warm style of writing and i think this book is really funny as well!I think someone else made the point that this looks like a typical chick lit book but is actually much more than that!I'll be keeping an eye out for more books by her.
This book isn't what I thought it would be. It looks like chick-lit, the back cover reads like chick-lit, and much of the story is chick-lit. But it's also a lot more serious. It's the story of a family with serious issues, and the chick-lit format didn't do the story justice.
