Everyone was obsessed with heartthrob actor Grayson Edwards, star of the new tween movie Texas High. Everyone except Abby Smith, a young professional obsessed with her career and living in the small town of Port Washington, WI. When a chance meeting brings the two together, Abby can’t help but fall for his good looks and sweet personality. Until the unthinkable happens. Former friends, aspiring actors, and a new love interest add to the hectic life as Abby struggles to decide what is best…moving on or making one last attempt to get Grayson back in her life.
Meaghan Hoffmann grew up in Atlanta Georgia and attended American Intercontinental University and obtained a degree in Media Production. She moved to Port Washington Wisconsin in 2008 where she currently lives with her husband Bret and her dog Casey and cat Foster. My Life With The Movie Star will be her first published work.
I'm an idiot! Every time I tell myself that I'm not going to fall for interesting barbs, but I do anyway. The writing was awful! you probably wrote better in your school essay (I'm not trying to be cruel, But I finished the book for the sake of my reading challenge. Otherwise I would have thrown the book at the third chapter in. The characters were flat, had zero (probably negative) chemistry, the main character had no backbone and naive to the point of being childish, the hero was exceptionally cruel.........and the list goes on.
So I did not mind the story but I unfortunately found the writing awkward and I had a hard time believing the relationship between Abby and Gray. I did not get the connection between the two. It had great potential with the story line but I felt it fell a bit flat. That being said though I liked it enough to read another book if it came out in a series.
And the Shallowest-Female -Ever award goes to Abby Smith.
Abby is the most shallow, pathetic, delusional, and spineless heroine I've ever read. Her obsession with Grayson's abs got to a point that I wanted bury her in the polar region, far, far away from humanity, in order to keep her shallow genes from populating further.
She has no self-respect and is an absolute leech. Sorry to say but I have developed a new respect for Bella (Twilight) and Keira(Thoughtless) after reading this book. The romance in this book flew faster than the fastest jet. I mean, you meet a guy ONCE and then invite him over to your place and let him stay at your house?
How dumber can you get?
And before the weekend is over, you tell the guy how much you lurvve him?( Or probably the guy tells you, whatever) I guess American Express card is one key that can open secret doors to the heart.
And where do I start about Grayson Edwards? At least, I know enough about Abby to know that she's shallow and delusional and I absolutely hate her. Gray, on the other hand, is just meh! All I know about him is that he has great abs and says I LOVE YOU two minutes after meeting a woman.
The character of Grayson might be a wish fulfillment on the author's part. Perhaps she wanted to write a dreamy, swoony hero who can charm the pants of any girl, so she made him spout romantic lines, which I would have appreciated if he had a bit more personality than what can rest on the nail of my pinky finger. As a result, all the sweet things he said ended up sounding cheesy and sappy to me.
The romance was lukewarm at best and ridiculous at worst. The plot was flimsy. The characters were obnoxious and no depth whatsoever. And I found Abby's actions cringeworthy. I regret wasting those precious hours I spent reading this book.
So, take my advice, and give this book a miss. You'll save your eyes the pain caused by constant eye-rolls that I had to suffer while reading this 'fauxmance'.
Or, if you have the strains of masochism, go ahead and read this book.
Story is interesting and shows a lot of promise. Some significant issues with editing and formatting makes it difficult to stay in the story at times. The worst was that the edit mark outs were still in the book and not deleted as they should have been. I doubt I’ll read this book again but I will read something by the author in the future.
This will be an incomplete review because I only read 21% (according to the Kindle) and don't think I'll finish reading this one. You would think that with a book that I'm not planning on finishing, I would give it a 1-star review. However, it's not that I HATE the book, rather that there's nothing about it that makes me want to finish it.
The writing is rather mediocre with characters that are dull. I've read 4 chapters and by this point, I should be fully invested in the main characters. But I'm not. And recently, I've read too many mediocre books using the famous/ordinary theme that I just can't bring myself to fnish this one.
It's obvious that Abby had some past issue with a boyfriend that has made her rather dull. I should want to know what it is, but I can guess (because so far, nothing original about this book) and I just don't really care to find out. We know hardly anything about Grayson at this point, and I would have continued except that again, the book is dull, it's too unbelieveable, and the book needs major spelling and grammar edits.
Grayson and Abby meet at a convention. Abby somehow manages to catch Gray's eyes (not sure how) and he talks to her and then asks her out to a lunch date. They have lunch at the hotel and no one bothers them. Also, he's this major hearthrob and no one mobs him at the hotel. After that one lunch date (when they live in two separate cities) Abby invites him to the fish fry festival. And Grayson agrees to attend. Now, when Abby invites him, she has no clue about his personal background, financial situation, etc. And she invites him to come see her. Unreal. And after their one lunch date, Grayson sends her flowers, which he signs with his real name. I get that Abby may not be into his movies, but how can she not know his name? And that's a real sticking point for me with these types of books. Unless the actor uses a stage name and he introduces himself with his real name, or unless he's really not a very well-known actor, the heroine really has to have her head stuck in the sand to not who who the actor is.
The spelling in this book is terrible. Your instead of you're. It's "your idea that you're going to sell." Latter instead of later. It's "you can have the latter later this week." Also, the use of punctuation is way off. Almost as though the author learned about punctuation somewhere, but never learned how to actually use commas so she threw them in randomly.
So, with the grammar and spelling issues, combined with the dullness of the book, combined with the unbelievability of the plot, this book became one that I've decided not to finish.
Congratulations to Meaghan Hoffmann on her debut novel! If this, her first novel, is any indication of the novels to come from this talented author, sign me up as a fan! I enjoyed the premise...small town girl meets major Hollywood movie star, sparks fly, love blooms, conflict tears them apart...will they live happily after after? The novel is an enjoyable read, and the characters are engaging. I especially liked the attention to detail incorporated into every scene. Being a writer myself, I find description very hard to write, and am in awe as to how well and seamlessly Ms. Hoffmann weaves it throughout ever chapter. I would have loved to given this novel the full five star rating, but typos and grammar issues were slightly distracting. Also, I would have liked to have seen a bit more character building on the part of the hero. That said, and given that this is Meaghan's first novel, and it is, as a whole, pretty darn great, I'll definitely be in line to buy her next book! Brava!
I devoured this book in just a few days. It was a fun read that kept me engaged and excited about finding out what was going to happen next. Being from the town the book was set in (and having just gone to Fish Day), I loved the references to local places and events. I also liked the description of the awards show and wondered if that's what they're really like.
Unfortunately, I had to take off one star for the grammatical errors and typos I found in the book. I'm an editor, so I cringed a little every time I saw one. With a good proofreader, this book would be the perfect summer read! I'd recommend it to anyone who has dreamed about dating a movie star!
This story started out really well. I loved the characters and the way the plot unfolded. I even laughed a few times and was almost brought to tears once. After that, it kind of lost its momentum. Not to say I didn't still enjoy it but a character was added that I really didn't see the need for and it wrapped up kind of abruptly, in my opinion. I would've liked to see the ending as well-developed as the first half of the story. I think the author has a terrific writing style and I will be checking out more of her work. I just hope this abrupt ending was a fluke.
I've always tried to determine the quality of a book, movie or play by accepting what the author was attempting to convey. I found this book to be almost perfectly what this author was attempting to achieve. The narrative, characters, plot all are true to Mz. Hoffmanns desires. This should be a delightful read for anyone who enjoys this genre and we can only hope that she adds to our enjoyment in the future.
It started with a good storyline, but at the ending was a bit weird. It felt like the writer had to rush things or had too many ideas for one story. My Life With The Movie Star is a book that you read, but after that you don't really think about it. You don't feel the pain/love with the (main) characters. I liked most of the storyline, but it's not a book that I'll read over and over again. It was a bit disapointing.
Okay, so this book had promise. I liked Abby, but toward the middle, I couldn't see what she saw in Gray. Plus, all the inconsistencies bothered me, like VMAs vs Movie Awards and Dave working for Channel 5, then Channel 12. Overall, I liked the story, but I felt like there could've been more to it.
Another cute, easy summer read. I devoured this in just a few hours. Great setting and world building. A few spelling and grammatical errors but I didnt buy this book to be a thinker...I got it to pass the time on a road trip and it served its purpose well.
The storyline was great! Unfortunately the way it was written was terrible! The narrative was off and it was so plain and boring. It could have been written better but it a struggle just to get through the book. A shame really!
I enjoyed the story line, but felt that it kind of fizzled out. It started out with a great beginning and even a great middle, but I felt the ending kind of fizzled out. I would have liked to see a little more to it.
2 and a 1/2 stars. While I liked the premise of the story, the dialogue seemed stiff and unnaturally proper. It just didn't flow as easily as some stories, but still liked it in the end, even though I saw a little bit of a Robert Pattinson/Edward Cullens fan fiction going on, lol.
I just never really felt that the author was really invested in this book. I don't really even know why I finished the book I guess I was just hoping it would get better .
i got the story, but i didnt fall in love with any of the characters, they were just not believable. It felt like unfinished story to me, it needed something more.
