Bailey Knox knew the good price she paid for her new bar came with consequences, but she didn’t count on nearly getting killed before she could even move into the place, which was also her new home.
Waking up to the two complete strangers who have saved her, she’s alarmed at her overwhelming response to both of them. Marcus Brand and James Archer are different from any men she’s ever met, but she didn’t realize how different. Shape-shifters don’t exist. Then they tell her something even more remarkable. She is their mate.
She fights the emotional pull, even while reveling in the passion that only seems to grow stronger, passion that just can’t be ignored. Neither can the attacks. When black panthers save her life once again, the trio must hide the truth from the rest of the world while struggling to come to grips with their own destiny—and overcoming the danger surrounding them.
Was there supposed to be a plot to this book? It was literally just one sex scene after another.
It was fairly obvious while reading Panthers' Prey that the plot was lazily thrown together at the last minute with very little effort. At one point during the beginning of the book it's mentioned that Marcus is in his 30s, but half way through he's aged about 10 years and is the same age as the guy who was considered to be the "father" figure in his life. If Leah Brooke plans on writing a sequel to Panthers' Prey, which appears to be the case, I hope she puts a little more effort into the back stories of her main characters next time. Panthers' Prey had some rich potential, but it was ruined by contradicting details about her main characters, an annoying lead female character, and too little plot substituted for a lot of unnecessary sex scenes.
One of the latest in a long string of very readable and erotic love stories from an author who keeps all her fans panting for more. This first book in a new series is about panther-shifters who have been displaced early in life when it appears that their families were massacred after the public discovered they existed. The two men who are the heroes here, Marc and James, have never really experienced a lot that would have been considered normal had they grown up with their families. Now they are a part of what could be called an artificial pack as most of the members are male, and only two instances of "finding their mate" had occurred. Now Marc and James have discovered their mate--Bailey Knox--but their discovery certainly doesn't mean an instant happily ever after. As is not uncommon in Ms Brooke's stories, there is an adversarial situation, not the least of which is caused by that sense on Marc's as well as Bailey's part that Mother Nature's choice for them is resented. They wanted to make their own choice. There are bad guys here but they are very much in the background although their presence does eventually precipitate the ultimate crisis. For the most part, the story is about the constant and persistent resistance that Bailey--a young woman who was raised in the foster care system--has to any relationship with someone as dominant and "alpha" as Marc and James. Marc's resistance to the relationship almost costs him his mate, but Ms Brooke has her own style that brings the threesome together, not necessarily in expected ways. A very good read and one that will be welcomed by lovers of this author's work especially.
Leah Brooke’s first venture into the paranormal did not work for me as well as her erotic romances, either contemporary or western historical. Don’t get me wrong, this is a hot book with lots of intense sex scenes, but the plot complexities and connection with the characters was not as strong as in her other books. In fact, I never thought I’d say this, but the sex actually distracted from the story.
The book also suffers from some minor editing flaws-in one scene one of the heroes takes a bat away from the heroine, and several lines later she is gripping it with both hands.
Having said all that, Panther’s Prey is still a fairly good read. There’s plenty of conflict, both between the two shapeshifting heroes and the object of their affection, and between the heroine and the people who are out to kill her. The book is fast paced and loaded with action, both in the sheets and out of them. And although it’s not billed as part of a series, there are plenty of openings given for future works.
If you like shapeshifters-in this case, black panthers, and ménage romance, give this one a try.
When Bailey Knox is attacked she believes she is about to die, not realizing she is about to be rescued by two men. James Archer and Marcus Brand are not sure what the scent they are smelling is, until they hear a womans scream.
Both men quickly realize they have found their mate. While one is willing to claim her, the other is struggling with the card fate handed him. Bailey thinks both men are nuts as they talk about being a mate an panthers, when they set out to claim her Bailey can't deny the pull between them is getting stronger each time she feels their touch.
Not one of my favorites by Leah Brooke, it was good but I struggled a bit with liking Marcus and Bailey, they both seem to claw at one another trying to stay in control of the situation. I would try the next one and see if it gets better.
Too much sex? Driven mad by too many orgasms? The more sex they had, the more they needed. It's no wonder Marc, James and Bailey fought it with everything they had... fought and lost. James was the first to fall, followed by Bailey, and then Marc. It wasn't enough that someone was out to kill Bailey or drive her out of business, or the constant worry about Officer Brown's snooping, they also had to fight the constant lust that was driving them together and driving them apart while fighting for control.
If you like it really hot and you're not worried about black panthers shedding fur this is the book for you.
I tried, I honestly did but could not suspend disbelief long enough to stay in this book.
1. I can't ever say that a man was hot enough to "make my bottom tingle". Every time that phrase came up I just shook my head.
2. If you have been nearly choked to death and survived, wouldn't you visit a doctor afterwards? Wouldn't you be still sore and slow for a week? Not our heroine -- one sexy night down and she's right as rain. No mention of all the scratches, bruises -- nope nada.
By the middle, I just skimmed and really did not care anymore. I give up. There are better books I could be reading or rereading. I like this author, but this book was a miss for me.

I love Leah Brooke, however, this was almost painful to get thru. The storyline is there, but the characters were just so effing annoying. And I had a really hard time relating to Bailey. I put the book down 3 or 4 times to walk away cause while the sex was absolutely smoking hot, the dialog and chemistry was just soooo lacking between the characters...
I loved this book! I think all the characters were strong in their own ways. I really liked the tension between the three main characters. I would recommend this book for anyone who likes mate books.
