Yesterday's Gone #8

Yesterday's Gone: Episode 8

Rate this book
Episode 8 picks up after the cliffhanger ending of Episode 7, with Brent Foster making a discovery that will change everything. But what he's learned is nothing compared to the secret that Edward Keenan is hiding.

Ryan Olson continues to search for Mary and Paola, trying to distance himself from the sins of his past. Will he find a chance at redemption when he finds a young teen in danger?

Mary Olson has no idea Ryan is still alive, and is settling down with Desmond, and her daughter, Paola, at The Sanctuary, a compound led by The Prophet. Have they found a small piece of heaven on Earth, an oasis of safety from the monsters that scour the landscape in search of humans? Or have they traded one hell for another?

Boricio Wolfe has always been a lone wolf, a serial killer with no connections to tie him down. Now, as leader of an unlikely group of survivors, he's itching to get back to the hunt. Little does he know, someone is also hunting him. And they're about to find him.

EPISODE 8 begins moments before the end of the world, and ends with a cliffhanger so killer, you'll throw your Kindle at the wall.

Desmond his infuriated at himself for not speaking up about his innate distrust and disdain for John. He vows to never ignore his gut instincts in his quest to be a people pleaser. A deep sense of unease and foreboding overpowers him the second they set foot on the grounds of their new homestead. Referred to as "The Sanctuary," the groups new digs are seemingly occupied by a fervid, cult-like flock of religious zealots. Their leader calls himself "The Prophet" whose fanatic (blatantly twisted and delusional) prophesying comes from a place of compassion and concern for his flock. However, "Brother Ray" (a measly 3rd tier minion) takes command whenever possible and by any means necessary. - A narcissistic, cruel and evil man who lives to make others suffer - the Devil incarnate in living color. For instance, innocent teenagers are tortured and/or killed in Gods name for sneaking off in mixed company. Desmond is disgusted and outraged by the huge gatherings of mindless followers who passionately cheer on the the degenerate as he wields out his psychotic torture - and all in the quest to save their souls from "eternal damnation." In episode 9 most of Desmond's group is ready to beat-feat as soon as possible before they become "Brother Ray's" next conquests/victims. Survivor (and seer) Will thinks they should stay for now - and stating: "Better to have the devil you know than the devil you don't." That being said, Will also knows they will need to leave but before their next destination is revealed to him. It's decided. They will stay. For now...

Full review will be on episode 12 and the end of season two of Yesterday's Gone. Cool little tidbit right before the end of this one.

Season 1 was so good, and this season just fell apart. Couldn't even finish it.

I'm finding it hard to get into Ryan Olsen's character, to date he's the only one I've not had an instant bond with. I think this is probably because we have heard so many twisted opinions from Mary and Paola though, and the fact that I want Desmond to stay in the picture.

Nevertheless another great episode, the last line really gave me chills. Now I must suffer though my self imposed break between episodes waiting to find out what it meant!

Well well well... Finally a revelation worthy of all my waiting. The end of this episode was so good! I did feel the same however about most of the episode as I did the last that it still seems to be dragging a little. I have enjoyed getting to know more about some of the characters history but the religious aspects of the story not to my taste.

Still going with this series and have fingers crossed the story leans more towards aliens in the next episode. I want more aliens!

Still finding S2 a bit slower than 1 at present. Hope the compound cult stuff goes somewhere fast, not really engaging me that much. That being said any book that can have a cliffhanger which is so good in the last sentence of the episode that it immediately makes me want to read on must be good. Just hope the build up leads to a good pay off. It's a game changer that's for sure.
