First I want to say that I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Second I'd like to say that I really tried to like this book. I never read the first in the Stupid Cupid series, and this is the second book, so parts of it were a bit confusing. Ultimately, the story goes that a matchmaking "Cupid" named Millie is trying to match a woman named Claire, and a man named Tyler. Instead, Claire falls for Tyler's twin, Jace.
This had the possibility of being a cute, comical romance, but spiralled downwards when Jace was too afraid to betray his brother, and Claire was just too afraid, period. Six years pass, and it finds Claire engaged to someone else, and Jace dating another woman. They find one another (while Claire is wedding dress shopping no less), promptly admit their feelings for one another have never diminished, and begin cheating quite blatantly on their significant others.
This book just smacked too much of condoning cheating for me to actually enjoy the book. Yes, they break up with their significant others and everything "works out" in the end, however, cheating is never right in my book, for whatever reason.
This was a very cute, quick, easy read. This book is part of a series. I will note here that I read this book first, without having read any of the others in the series. The author alluded to, a little late in the book, the ‘angel’ work. But I was still left a little confused by what was going on with it and why. The pace of the book was good though. It was a very quick and easy read. The characters were well done and nice to meet in the story. Though again, I was a bit confused by some of their actions. Which I think may have been easier to understand if I had known the premise of the book.
First, and foremost, thank you to Freebooksy for the heads-up that a book was available for review . . and, especially, thank you to the author, Amber Scott, for gifting me with a copy of the Kindle Edition of The Sweetest Fling (Stupid Cupid #20) in return for my honest review.
I hadn't read the first book in the Stupid Cupid series but it didn't take long to get the "gist"; I see that as a plus. The story line was a "cute" one . . it was easy to "chuckle along" as the Millie bumbled and bungled her way through her matchmaking duties.
I found the characters to be well-defined - the story moved along at a good pace and the interaction between characters kept the pages turning . . albeit slowly at times. It's rare for me to take over three weeks to read a book . . even during the busiest of times! I found myself putting this one down for days at a time - only to focus on the review date deadline and pick it up again.
I have to note that, near the end of Chapter Sixteen, there is an error(?) so blatant that it almost "ended the read". If an author is going to "dip into" (so to speak) the soft porn genre, s/he needs to make it a point to get the gender/body parts right! On the other hand, perhaps the "error" was deliberate . . nevertheless, in my experience, there's a difference between a 'c' and a *c* (how's that for subtle!).
I loved the Epilogue . . hands-down, my favorite part of the book!
I am cross-posting this review to Goodreads/Amazon - only wishing that Goodreads offered "half-stars" as part of the rating system. I found this one to be a strong 3.5/5.0 . . in all fairness, I did like/enjoy the book but the ease of "putting it aside for days at a time" had an impact.
If you enjoy a lightweight story line with a good bit of "hot'n'steamy" tossed in, I think you'll find Sweetest Fling (Stupid Cupid #2) a fun read.
Play Fling & Sweetest Fling by Amber Scott are part of the Stupid Cupid series which is funny and romantic with a little kick to it. I extremely enjoyed Millie's matchmaking skills, especially when everything she plans goes wrong. The combination of Millie and Aj the cupid supervisor, is just perfect especially the chemistry they have together. Its wonderful to find your soulmate but it can be disastrous apparently at the being. Thankfully if you have a cupid wiling to do anything for love the results will be great. The questionable tactics, the quirky remarks and the true love stories will keep you from putting the book down.
I had to go back to the beginning of this book to put it back in my memory--then remembered why I'd forgotten it. The premise of this book (and the rest of the "stupid cupid" series, perhaps?)is that "Millie", a cupid, is stranded on earth until she makes enough matches. Of course, she messes up the match of Claire--substituting one twin for another. Instead of hilarity, stomach-churning ensues.
I thought that this book was a very cute story. Tyler brings Claire to His Sister Ashley's wedding. Only Claire falls in love with Tylers identical twin, Jace. After denying their feelings for 6 long years, true love is found. This book was given to me for review by Ms. Scott.
I really liked this story. I love how they worked in Cupid. I just have a lot of unanswered questions. I will definitely be checking to see if there are more Stupid Cupid books. I can't wait to see if Millie and AJ eventually get together. I also want to know Jake's story.
Cute. I should have read Play Fling first, because some stuff just seemed like it wasn't well defined. I knew there was another book, and that I had it, but didn't double check on which came first.
