“Had I not been so entranced by her, things might have turned out differently. My senses might have triggered more appropriate feelings of trepidation, and perhaps I could have prevented the treacherous act she would commit in the name of the mantle she craved. But I did not. And it was a grievous error for a mentor to make.”
As a double-ascended guardian of anomalous origins, Bree Spencer has been forced to traverse a perilous road on account of ethereal prejudice. And now, as Hannah’s mentor, she is determined to prevent her from suffering the same fate.
But when Hannah evidences powers that only the ascended should have, it triggers dire consequences that will thrust Bree - and the Scions who love her - into a chilling new reality. A reality marred with loss and betrayal.
And where someone will be forced to make the ultimate sacrifice.
K.C. King's love affair with books began with Charlotte's Web when she was eight. A true Aquarian, she's a dreamer whose John Grisham obsession resulted in her choice to study linguistics and law. When she's not writing, travelling, or enjoying cappuccinos in kangaroo cups, you'll probably find her in her own world: Somewhere between Metropolis and Austen's 19th Century England.
This was a good end to the series, and definitely my favourite of the lot.
I actually liked this book, which considering that I didn’t like the two before it, was a bit of a shock! This book had action! It had tension! And the love triangle actually interested me, and I was actually thinking about what on earth was going on, and how things would be solved! I was glad that we got a happy ending! 6.25 out of 10
easy to read, with bold plot. i enjoyed all 3 books. would definitely recommend for rainy day reads. well definitely looks for more books by this author.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ As a double-ascended guardian, Bree mentors Hannah, trying to shield her from the same harsh fate. When Hannah’s powers exceed the norm, the consequences ripple through their world, bringing loss, betrayal, and forcing a devastating sacrifice.
First, it was a clean conclusion to the series. I enjoyed reading it, but it was definitely short and seemed to rush through things that should have been fleshed out better. I felt a few a of the characters made a significant departure from their previous selves and this made the book a little difficult to take at times. I was fairly annoyed with how Bree handled, or rather let Hannah handle her. Also the love-triangle aspect seemed entirely forced upon Bree, and wasn't necessary, as it should have been resolved from the previous book in the series. Alaik did redeem himself, but that doesn't make him worthy as Bree's love interest over Bastian. All in all, I'm glad to have read this series, just wish the last book could have matched the brilliance of the first.
Amongst all the long words that went straight over my head, there was a beautiful story with a lot of history - both family and ethereal lore. Lots of twists and turns and not predictable.
I loved dreamy protective Sebastian, could take or leave Alaik and Hannah & Erasmus lost a few brownie points in this one.
After reading a review for this book about team Alaik I was worrying all the way through that he actually had a shot, thank goodness he didn't, he never had a chance. Still lots I didn't analyze and try to wrap my head around but that's ok, Im moving on.
Happy enough with the ending...Sebastian & Bree <3
Once again, the whole series was a hit for me. Her writing style and word choice was just phenomenal, and again, super refreshing for this type of genre. I had feared I would never experience something that didn't feel extremely cheesy in the YA fantasy genre, which I love so much. But this book proved me wrong. The characters were all generally likable, and the love triangle always interesting ;)
SPOLIER!!!
I do however, hold a very tender place in my heart for Alaik. Though I understand the way it all went.
It took me a while to get used to the writing style of K.C. King, but after I did I enjoyed this series. I like the paranormal aspect, the plot, and characters in the book. The thing I loved about this book is how balanced it was.. which is funny because that is an aspect of the book.. to find balance. It had its ups and downs, even the last chapter left me wanting to cry tears of sorrow, then immediately tears of joy. The Tri-Realms Saga was thoroughly a delight to read.
I really enjoyed this series all together. I do feel it was a bit anticlimatic overall. But I was glad to see that true love won out, even faced with all the confusions, adversities, and obstacles. I did feel sorry for Alaik in the end. I do hope that there will be a story that shows us he too gets to experience the love that Bree and Sebastian share.
Good end to the series, but story felt a little rushed. There was also a point where the story shifted and it didn't make sense. It was like the author changed her mind versus strategically leading the audience in that direction. Really think book 2 and 3 should have been combined or this one expanded much more. It was a fun series, though.
KC King needs to find a few more adjectives for Brown...eyes are caramel, hair is caramel or has caramel highlights, skin is various shades of caramel...cliffs are caramel...I'm still not quite sure what the guardian's are...but I read all three books, so at least I cared enough about the characters to keep reading...
Was frustrated with Bree most of this book, and really didn't like it as much as the first book. Overall, though, I was glad I read it and got to see the end of the story.
