Sinterklaas, Kerstmis, Oud & Nieuw: het hoort vrolijk en gezellig te zijn. Maar wie het werk van Annie M.G. Schmidt kent, weet dat wat hóórt de schrijfster niet bijster interesseerde. Dus schreef ze, met de vrolijke overdrijving die haar kenmerkt, columns, liedjes en gedichten over die vermaledijde feestdagen. Over nagelbijtend de klok van twaalf afwachten, over familiediners waarbij 'zelfs de meest exquise lobster de bobbelingen in het familielaken' niet kunnen gladstrijken'. Kortom: verheug u op de feestdagen, gewapend met Annie's gezonde ironie!

Anna Maria Geertruida Schmidt was a Dutch writer.

Although she wrote a variety of poems, songs, books, plays, musicals, and radio- en television drama, she is known best for her children's literature, for which she received the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1988. She committed suicide a day after her 84th birthday and was buried in Amsterdam.
