Time Ship

Rate this book
In the 1960s two young scientists, David Evans and Henry Lindstrom, are trying to develop a means of transporting a human being into another time, but they will encounter more than scientific obstacles. An unscrupulous reporter is convinced that David Evans’ foster family is hiding a secret, and he is determined to discover what it is. At the same time, a fellow scientist is intent on blocking their project and is willing to do whatever it takes to destroy their work. Just what is the secret the Stetson family is hiding, and how is it connected to the time travel project? While “Time Ship” can be read simply as a story, the book is not intended to be an “Indiana Jones” type action thriller. Instead it attempts to focus on some of the scientific implications that might accompany time travel, as well as to challenge the reader to consider the difficult subject of predestination and free will. The book does not provide “answers” to these questions. Rather it challenges you, the reader, to consider them for yourself as the story unfolds. At the same time, “Time Ship” combines the subject of time travel with elements of an old-fashioned mystery, and a large portion of the book is designed to reveal how all the various elements come together. I invite you to read all the reviews and the sample available online. If you enjoy the kind of thought-provoking challenge I intended for my book, “Time Ship” might just be for you.

More about the characters than the time travel.
Hmm, not quite sure about this one. There seems to be a lot of narration and much less interaction between the characters. It really doesn't follow the time travelling character, apart from a few snippets, but is more about the characters left behind.
Not full of action or adventure, although there are some occurrences. It takes a more stepped back approach mainly concentrating on Henry and what he does after David disappears into the past. It's a story much more about the strength of the characters and their resolve rather than about time travel, despite its presence.

Did want to kick the time traveller in the butt for being idiotic and just waltzing meekly off into a disaster he knew was going to occur when he could easily have avoided it.
A touch stretching of the bounds of logical behaviour at times, but it is thought provoking and I did enjoy it. It's certainly kept my mind occupied with trying to work out how the fate that befell David could have been avoided without creating a paradox. I now have a headache, but still no solution!
Definitely worthwhile reading.

This story was not quite what I expected. First of all the reader does not get to experience time travel at all; the story is told from the perspective of characters who are witnessing the effects of travel. Also, the main characters are intellectuals and therefore speak and think very differently than your average reader. Their conversations, for example, felt scripted and artificial rather than being a natural exchange.

Very predictable story. I knew what was going to happen almost as soon as the characters were introduced. There was no pleasure of discovery with this book. If you like to be led by the nose through a story, then this is for you. If you prefer to be surprised and left with unanswered questions, then pass this one by.
This story is not experienced, it is told. Not my idea of a good book.

Wow!!!

Really interesting story! Not the ending I would have liked, but still a good one. Now, I just want a sequel!
