I Never Knew That About Royal Britain

Rate this book
A charming compendium of facts and tales about Britain's rich royal history of kings, queens and castles.
Bestselling author Christopher Winn explores Britain's royal past, unearthing a rich legacy of castles and palaces, cathedrals and country retreats, battlefields and monuments where kings and queens lived and died.
Discover whose heart is buried near the Tower of London; which palace was built on top of a mulberry garden; the world's oldest and largest occupied castle and the first building in Britain to have latrines.
From the Palace of Scone to the Palace of Westminster, from Pembroke Castle, the birthplace of Henry VII, to Pontefract Castle, where Richard II starved to death, and from banqueting halls to beheading sites, this gem of a book is guaranteed to inform and amuse in equal measure.

Ever since my first trip to the British Isles, I have been almost obsessed with all things royal especially in England. I absolutely fell in love with England. When I came across this book which is part of Christopher Winn's series I Never Knew That About____. Topics of Royal Britain is one of his books in this series. I have really enjoyed myself. Each royal item is discussed in short passage. It will be a book thatñ I shall return to often: to check facts, to find information, to locate items, to discover why a certain name is used for a particular ceremony (Royal, of course), and to entertain myself with various Royal topics such as Royal Villians, Royal Rogues, and Royal Sticky Ends. A fun, interesting light read. With my love of England, I believe that I shall look into the book, I Never Knew That About England. A truly fun way to learn about all things Royal!

Audible version - great choice of narrator. Book is informative, can be hard to recall Edward II was cited as doing this, and Edward IV for doing that. Could in book format, be a great jumping off point for history class notes...

A light touch historical overview. As is often the case while at first seemingly superficial it reveals a number of facts I’d never heard of before so the trial is very apt.
