Volume # 20 of the Bregdan Chronicles continues the sweeping historical saga that now encompasses March – September of 1873. How many books will be in the Bregdan Chronicles? No one knows yet… Ginny intends to write these character's stories for as long as she is able to write. She is passionate about bringing history to life through historical fiction. Since she is amazingly healthy, that could be for quite a while! She doesn’t like stories to end any more than you do. This one won't end for a very long time!
I enjoy American history and these books fulfill my passion. I learn something new every book. I knew about the Chicago fire but not the ones on Boston and Oregon. I wish we were raising young people like Felicity, Frances, Russell and the others in these books. Our future would look so much brighter. Carrie and Rose and family have come a long way since the Civil War. So much has happened to them but their faith keeps them moving into the future. These books are well researched and written. One can over look a few errors. I can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings.
This is the best historical series I've ever read! Well done Ginny! I'm encouraging my children and grandchildren to read. Especially today when book censoring has become so prevalent and true history is being denied or hidden from schools, students need the Bregdan Chronicles more than ever! Well done Ginny Dye! Keep them coming.
Waiting for #21 to reach my hands later this year will be excruciating! This series has been with me for what seems an eternity, watching life unfold for Carrie and her family from before the Civil War, enduring hardships and suffering, experiencing sadness and joy, new growth, new life in a world filled with post-war turmoil, such is mind boggling. But I can hardly bear the waiting to learn how Frances and Felicia will fare in their new endeavors in Boston and all the adventures to come at Cromwell Plantation. Thank you, Ginny Dye, but please hurry! I'm anxious for #21!
I have now completed all of the Brendan Chronicles that are out at this point and am waiting for the 2024 release of book 21. I am amazed that Ginny has written so many books in this series but am thrilled she is not done yet. I have learned so much about the history of our country during this time. Things I know I never learned in school and things that are vital to understanding the mess we are in today with getting along with each other in the area of ethnicity. I have always thought the whole mess was so unnecessary and at least now I understand how we got to this point . Now let's figure out how to fix it.
I love the characters she has so wonderfully developed and love the life of the south. I am a transplant who grew up in the Northwest and now have lived in Virginia for many years. She has been true to the deep meaning of what it means to be southern. Yankees often demean southerners ( more of that ridiculous dislike of anything that is not like you are) and it is so good to read stories of how kind, smart and gentle my southern friends often are. Now to find that place where I can do more good. Bloom where your planted or where your heart takes you but do it. The Bregdan principle at work will change this world..
I have always loved reading about American History. However, my college textbooks cannot touch the in-depth, heart wrenching, soul weeping, panoramic stories of the heart and breath of the visceral impact that I experienced in reading The Brendan Chronicles. I fell in love with the dynamics of the families portrayed in this Amazing series by Ginny Dye. I have laughed, cried, mourned, felt joyous at the celebrations of life while reading about the amazing characters while experiencing such an in-depth appreciation of the struggles of our Nation being born upon the blood, sweat, tears and atrocities that were perpetrated upon ours ancestors. I am a passionate lover of horses so I have loved their inclusion it each volume. I have been unable to put these books down, going without sleep. I have managed to read all twenty of this series of books in the last three weeks and I cannot wait for #23!! I'm going shopping for more of, Ginny Dye books! She is definitely a Favorite Author in my life!!

There isn't a bad book in this series, although this wasn't my favorite for some reason. The children are growing up and wanting to spread their wings, and Carrie and Rose are sad but remarkably okay with them traveling thousands of miles away to live. This is the time of the post Civil War Reconstruction, and although blacks have won their freedom from slavery, not much has changed in the attitudes of most white people towards them. The book goes into great detail about what occurred in LA at that time, and how blacks were arrested on trumped up charges (when they weren't being killed by the KKK) and then made to labor as part of their punishment, which was in effect, slavery all over again. I'm sure that the hatred and fear were even more widespread than the book depicts and that black people were most likely afraid to travel at all. While sometimes appalling, often sad, I love this series because it brings history to live. Keep them coming, Ginny Dye!
This entire series is absolutely extraordinary. I love history and Ginny Dye really makes history come alive for everyone (even non history lovers). You really have to give this book series a try! And, this particular book, Walking Toward Freedom, opens one's eyes to how badly not only people of color were treated but how people from other countries were treated; very badly! Doesn't seem like the United States has changed much since then but strides have been taken, at least. I cannot wait until the next book is released. Cannot be soon enough for me! Gunny has a fan for life!
Another book in the Bregdan Chronicles series about the Cromwell family and their friends. ________________________________________________
“ I don’t believe it’s enough to choose to not fight hate with hate. Sometimes you have to be the one to reach out with compassion and grace. When it is so completely undeserved, it usually has the most powerful impact.”
“Every person, no matter their race, should choose to use how they are created to make the world better.”
I'm always more than ready for the next book, so thank you Ginny for creating such a long series! I've leaned so much from your beautiful characters that have become like friends and mentors. And what an enjoyable way to learn about the history of our country and all the things and people that have influenced it ..and us! Please keep writing ... I will certainly keep reading!
Some old friends make their way back to the plantation. Some new friends are made. As always wonderfully written. Challenging us to make a difference. I still can't believe people were so mean to others just because of skin color. I hope I treat everyone equally. I always love the Bregdan books
Finishing book number 20 was so much fun. Living in Salem, Oregon added fun to the experience of the part about Portland, Oregon. I will look forward to Book 21. Particularly loved the part about the insights of understanding about race issues discussed during the train ride with Moses and the two girls.
I have read all 20 books in the Bregdan Chronicles series and have loved all of them. I can't put the books down but I am so sorry when I finish. Ginny Dye writes wonderfully and makes you feel the experiences. I have learned so much about the reconstruction of the U.S. after the Civil War. Great series!
I’m a guy. I like historical fiction. I liked Michner’s books. I don't consider these romances. I've googled some of the people and events in the books for at least directional accuracy. I like the drama and the learning but when it gets too feminine, I just read really fast.
As with all of the previous books, I couldn't put it down. I love the way the characters interact with each other and the way the story line flows. Thank you Ginny for writing this book and I can hardly wait for the next book. Keep writing and I'll keep reading...😊❤️
This series is so intense at times and lighthearted at others! I've learned a lot about our Nation's history! And am looking forward to her amazing journey into the future! Is it possible this could become a tv series! I will be there front and center my friends!! ~Jules
I have read all of Ginny Dye's books and been thoroughly entertained. The history is outstanding. I think that's what is my favorite part. The characters are well developed and continuance. I recommend this series to anyone interested in character development and American history. Ms. Dye really does her homework!
I really enjoyed reading the part in this book about the children That were adopted. It is a wonderful thing For Someone to Care Enough To take them in. Of course I really like Carrie. She has been present in all 20 books that have been written so far. I gave it 5 stars because miss dye works very hard writing these books.
These books have changed my nderstanding of our history!
By crafting wonderful characters who interact in the actual historical events that occured in the 1800s in our country. Weaving in the injustices ocurring due to slavery and also other people groups that immigrated here in this time period.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have loved every book in the series!! I love the characters and always learn a lot about the period of history. Very well written and I always look forward to the next book of the series!! I also love the strong women and men portrayed and how doing hard things for the right reasons can have such a profound impact!!
I love the Bregdan Chronicles! Each book has been an adventure. I can’t wait to sit down and immerse myself in these wonderful stories filled with hope, faith, endurance - the list of traits taught by the characters goes on & on. These books challenge you to be a better person and use your own God given talents & blessings to help others.
This series of books should be made mandatory reading in all schools. Reading this series has made me so more aware of how little I learned in school about the civil war and the plight of the blacks and our country following those years. I have never read any books/novels that can compare go the exquisite writing of this author. Look forward to more!
I've wanted to write my entire life, but due to an awful childhood and other circumstances beyond my control, I did not have the confidence. I have been so afraid of rejection. Being an author is still a dream, though. Reading this series has encouraged me. I am going to be 78 years old, so maybe. Thank you, Ginny.
Love all 20 books! I have learned tons and have been inspired! Really draws you in and you can't wait to read what happens next! I cannot wait for the next book, it was supposed to be it late2023 but I'm not finding it was out May out 2024?! I pray Ginny is healthy and well.
wonderful story of forgiveness, love and redemption
This is a wonderful story of our nation’s history. There will always be good and evil, honesty and trickery, pride and humility, hatred and love. It is amazing to see character thrive and awful to see the powerful disregard those they are supposed to be serving. Great series.
I continue to read this series even though the writing is a bit simplistic and preachy and there's just something off. The characters are just all too perfect; even the bad guys mostly see the errors of their ways. However, there's usually a compelling subplot or two and lots of interesting historical details. I do have to roll my eyes HARD at all the homeothopy nonsense.
This series is the best I have ever read. The characters are drawn up so well that it is very easy to follow them through the series. I started out reading the next every 2-3 books but now I’m reading them pretty consecutively and I also repeat certain passages to my husband and friends. The more things happen the more they stay the same.
Another wonderful book by Ginny Dye. I’ve read every book in this series and enjoyed every one of them. I look forward to more adventures by the Cromwell family.
Another Ginny Dye book that I couldn't put down. Amazing history that includes so much information to learn. Keep writing Ginny. I can't wait for the next book.
As the 19 books before Walking Toward Freedom, I thoroughly enjoyed this one! I was engaged from beginning to end. The continuation of characters keeps me grounded to the story. Loved it!
