Kálon grows up surrounded by different boxes which his father collects and then sells. He dearly loves and is very proud of his father. He is trying his best to be zealous to repay the sacrifices his father has to endure while working abroad for them to achieve a better life.

But one day, a box least expected arrives.

Lumaki si Kálon na napaliligiran ng iba't ibang kahon na iniipon at ipinagbibili ng kaniyang tatay. Mahal na mahal at labis na ipinagmamalaki niya ang kaniyang tatay. Nagsikap siya upang masuklian ang paghihirap na tinitiis niyo habang nagtratrabaho ito sa ibang bansa para magkaroon lamang sila ng maginhawang buhay.

Ngunit isang araw ay dumating ang isang hindi inaasahang kahon.

Michael M. Coroza is a distinguished Filipino poet, essayist, translator, and academic known for his contributions to contemporary Philippine literature. He writes primarily in the Filipino language and has been a recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the S.E.A. Write Award.

Coroza is a prolific poet, known for his command of traditional forms like the balagtasan, and has received multiple Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature. He is also a renowned literary translator, with his translation of Apolinario Mabini's La Revolucion Filipina receiving a National Book Award in 2016. As a literary scholar, his essays and critical works have been published nationally and internationally. He has also been a strong advocate for the Filipino language, serving as the Chair of the Writers' Union of the Philippines (UMPIL).

Ang bigat ng kuwentong ito. Ang lungkot.

Pilit ang paggamit ng "Kalon" (May ganyan bang pangalan? At di naman kailangang itugma ang pangalan sa imahen) na pangalan para tumugma sa salitang "kahon" at sa kahon bilang pangunahing imahen sa akda.

Mahalaga ang ganitong kuwento sa usaping panlipunan. Ang pagiging OFW ay bunga ng kakulangan ng gobyerno ng kongkretong plano at aksyon para bigyan ng trabaho ang mga Pilipino.

Michael N. Coroza is undeniably a great writer. so heart-pounding story though t'was made for kids. anyway a must read children short sotry
