Until the Sun Falls from the Sky

Rate this book
Leah Buchanan’s family has been in service to vampires for five centuries. Even so, Leah wants nothing to do with her family’s legacy. But when she’s summoned to her Selection by the Vampire Dominion, under familial pressure, she has no choice but to go.

Lucien has been living under the strict edicts of the Vampire Dominion for centuries but he’s tired of these ancient laws stripping away everything that is the essence of the vampire.

So he’s taking it back.

And this is because Lucien has been watching and waiting for decades for Leah to become available for a Selection and he will not be limited with what he can do with her. He will have her, all of her.

Therefore, Lucien is going to tame Leah, even if he gets hunted and killed for doing it.

What neither Leah nor Lucien expects is the strong bond that will form between them, connecting them on unprecedented levels for mortals or immortals. And what will grow between them means they will challenge their ways of life and their union will begin The Prophesies which makes them one of three couples who will save humanity… or die in the effort.

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

It has been a while since I read a vampire story, but 'Until the Sun Falls from the Sky' was just what I needed. This story puts a different spin on the "vampire and human fall in love" trope. This one took a little time to warm up to, but in the end it was well worth it.

In Kristen Ashley's 'The Three' series, human and supernatural beings have coexisted for centuries. A war fought centuries earlier resulted in some rules to keep vampires in check and to keep both species alive. This has helped to maintain the balance of power and to keep vampires from hunting the humans to extinction.

Willing families have served as "concubines" for the vampires. When the children of the concubines come of age, they attend a gathering known as the Selection, where they are selected by a vampire to serve on a contractual basis. While serving their vampire, they are receive lavish gifts and attention. Even after their time of service is finished, the vampire continues to provide for their former concubine for the entirety of their life. The concubine provides sustenance to the vampire and companionship.

Leah Buchanan was born into a family of concubines. Her lineage included some of the most desired concubines in history. She was raised to believe that service to the vampire race is to be honored and even enjoyed, but Leah has no interest in ever fulfilling her predestined concubine role.

When Leah is finally unable to avoid attending a Selection, she goes begrudgingly. Whispers of a powerful vampire, Lucien, make her nervous. It seems that the mysterious Lucien has been waiting for Leah. She doesn't know anything about Lucien, except she senses that he is a vampire that even other vampires fear.

As expected, Leah is selected by Lucien. Right from the start, he commandeers Leah's life. The contract is altered and Leah is not offered the opportunity to decline to be Lucien's concubine. It is clear that Lucien is willing to do anything to have Leah as his and is willing to break any rule to have her. She doesn't stand a chance.

With every opportunity that she has, Leah defies Lucien. She is unaccustomed to the highhanded, domineering ways of this powerful vampire. Although he tries to be patient with Leah, his actions proved to be incredibly frustrating on more than one occasion. Lucien was definitely not an easy character to like. He had as much to learn about human ways as Leah did about the vampire world.

Eventually, Leah and Lucien manage to get on the same page. However, insecurities plague Leah and Lucien unwittingly adds to her insecurities with his reckless actions. Every time that I thought they were going to get things straightened out, something else would happen.

Meanwhile, there is war brewing in the background. It is clear that Lucien is getting ready to lead some sort of rebellion and that he is tired of abiding by the rules that were set in place following the last war. Leah's role in this rebellion is largely unclear, but what is known is that she will be an integral player.

This is the first book in "The Three" series and I will definitely be continuing on to the next books. The following books are expected to focus on two other couples with different paranormal abilities. I am very interested to see where this will lead.

If you enjoy paranormal romances with over-the-top Alpha males, then this is a good choice. If you can't tolerate a leading male that is a huge jerk for much of the story, acting in a callous and dominating manner, then this will not be a good choice. Personally, I have a weak spot for a$$holes, so this worked out splendidly for me. However, Lucien is a character that will make many readers cringe and want to throw their book/Kindle against a wall.

The book gif-review style, i aim for no spoilers so i might not make complete sense unless you have read the book :)
This is Lucian at the start of the book

This is Leah

I am actually pretty convinced that Leah is actually a teenager, she certainly acted like one throughout most of the book.
This is Leah after she has been choosen & is living with him

This is Lucian

Then loads things happen which make me seriously pissed.. so I'm thinking maybe..

but I'm like...

Lucien is all ...

And god only know's why but she is like ...

Which in turn makes me scream -

But obviously because this is a romance things go really well for a while and then cue drama..
So she is like

But he finds her and is like ..

So she again forgives him and is all

Cue a happy for now style ending which leaves me doing this

To Lucien

So yeah i didn't complete hate this book. It certainly was not what i have come to expect from KA. I think the fact i actually hated Lucien & strangely this did not change for the better during the book ruined the book for me. I didn't like him & I did not like the things he did.

I would still recommend this book because i know lots of people have loved it so maybe it is just me who is a Lucien hater. I also plan on reading the next in the series, i hope i enjoy it more.

My feelings in regards to not enjoying the book

1.5 I hate Lucien Stars

SPOILERS AND A RANT

I was so lookin forward to reading this book a bunch of friends told me it was great and I went into reading it with high expectations ....... The story plot is great 3 power couples destine to change the world. I liked Leah she was sassy, had a mind of her own. The problem I have with this book is Solely Lucien Aka Assclown!!!!

 photo george-takei_zps64748585.gif

He single handedly ruined the book for me. There was nothing to like about him and so many things to hate
 photo longlist_zps1a3e8230.gif

I think the writer confused sexy dominant alpha male with crazy controlling/ borderline abusive male. Lets see he tries to trick her into signing a altered blood contract when she refuses he uses mind control on her and forces her... all through the book he uses mind control on her anytime she doesn't do what he wants. He keeps her from her family, friends, and outside world takes away her car keys, money , passport, jewelry and all phones and traps her, Man does he sound sexy . Then he tries to break her in what he refers to as the taming. He holds her down when she tries to move away from him, or forces her to sit on his lap a few times he freezes her ability to move or talk when in suits him. He punishes her for not obeying him by spanking her like a child while using mind control to keep her for speaking he also punishes her by bring her close to orgasm repeatedly but not letting her have them unless she begs or learns her lesson then he tells her if she pleases herself he will punish her more. then he has the balls to go out and feed from another woman while she is trapped at home and he almost sleeps with the other woman. When he does pretty much break her and she is like a robot shell then he doesn't like the way she acts he keeps telling her she isn't acting like Leah
 photo whatdoyou_zpsb0386380.gif

Oh lets not forget that he is also lying to her and not telling her very important things the whole book I was at 96% done before he even told what was going on really!!!!!!!! Did I forget he was mated and dumped his mate of 50 years like she was trash. I just don't get it There was nothing sweet or romantic about him and I have no clue how Leah fell in love with him unless she has skokholm syndrome.
I love vampire books and I love sexy Alpha males but it was just to damn much if I was Leah I would have been like

I am so disappointed I hear the next book is a ton better I sure hope so

“For eternity. Until the end of days. Until the sun falls from the sky.”

Woww. Now that’s how you write a f**king awesome paranormal romance!!!

Smokin’ hot and steamy! Original world-building! Strong characters! Page-turning writing! This book has it all!

“All. Fucking. Mine. ” he whispered fiercely.

In this world, vampires always have a chosen concubine (either male or female depending on the preference) in their lives who serve to feed them blood for a few years at a time until they are released from service. In return, they are lavishly looked after for their entire lives and greatly respected among the vampire community. Leah comes from a long line of elite concubines. At the Selection (where vampires get to choose their next concubine), she is selected by Lucian – the absolute most Alpha uber-vampire of them all.

Lucian has been watching Leah for the past 20 years. He marked her as his, waiting for the right time to make her his. But he is fed up with the hand-tying rules of the Vampire Dominion that do not allow for vampires to be sexually involved with their concubines and will stop at nothing to to have every part of her. He risks his life to cheats the rules and make it so that she can be completely his, regardless of how she may feel about it.

Their intense attraction and deep connection to each other is undeniable, but they both have a lot to learn about each other, their worlds before they can completely join their hearts. This is their story.

“I’ve been waiting for you since I knew you existed. But I’ve been waiting for someone like you for five fucking centuries.”

First off, I’ll say that I loved the mythology!! It was very clean and simple – nothing I had to try too hard wrap my head around or make any huge leaps of acceptance for. Everything about the world was logical and felt very realistic and was the perfect blend of our world with the supernatural one.

The sexual tension in this book was INTENSE!! *fans self* Seriously smokin’ hot!! There were also a fair number of moments that made me tear up, it has typical amazing KA-style dialogue, (no kidnappings!! lol), and a seriously engaging storyline that just draws right you in!

But let me tell you, this book T.O.Y.E.D with my emotions!! Holy freaking hell! One minute I was intensely angry, then dreamily happy, then swoony, then teary, then furious, then back to happy… For the first 70%, my heart was yo-yoed back and forth between extreme HATE for the super-controlling-asshat-uber- Jerk Lucian and intense, complete and utter LOVE for the possessive-sweet-caring-protective-swoony Lucian.

Major conflicted emotions here! There were so many things that Lucian did that rubbed me waaaay the wrong way and yet still I utterly LOOOOOOOVED the book!

Let me start by saying that I. absolutely. ADORED. Leah!!! She is one of my FAV heroines I have ever read! I had SO much respect for her! I felt that everything she did was justified, reasonable, believable, and totally understandable. She never once made me roll my eyes and it was her strength of character that got me through the tougher parts of this book. She was so strong-willed, had so much spirit and sass, she was fiesty and brave and never gave away any piece of herself until she knew without a doubt that she also held Lucian’s heart.

“Are you mine?”
“If you give me you, Lucien, then I promise. I’ll give you me.”

As for Lucian… first off I should say that now, having finished the book, I have to say that I LOVE him. Seriously, utterly, swoonily head-over-heels LOVE him! Buuuuut, it wasn’t always so lol…

Is it wrong to want to throttle a ficticional character?!? In the beginning, I found myself intensely furious and frustrated with Lucian. I’d gasp and splutter my way through the chapters with all sorts of “oh. my. god! He did NOT just DO that?!!?!!!” reactions. To say he tested my patience would be a major understatement. I kept going back and forth between melting over something he did and wanting to bitch slap the holy freaking hell out of him!! Major throttling wishes happened! He infuriated me!! He was hypocritical, controlling, manipulative, enraging, and simply the biggest JERK I’ve ever read in a book. It came off that he wanted to break her, to control her, and for her to be his ‘pet’. Needless to say, I had a few issues with all of those. Aaand, that being said, throughout all these feelings, I also couldn’t help but feel seriously intense love for him. You could just tell than underneath all his actions there was a seriously good heart and you just didn’t have the whole picture.

“In fact, when he wasn’t being a jerk, controlling or a pain in the ass, he looked at me…
He looked at me…
Oh hell, he looked at me like I was his life.”

In many of KA’s books, where the heroine ‘fights’ the hero’s advances, I’m usually always rolling my eyes at their antics and mentally telling them to just get over it. But in this book, I was right there with Leah when she said he hated him. But, see, I was also right there with her when she melted for him too… so conflicting!!

“Don’t try me,” Lucian warned in my head.
“Kiss my concubine ass,” I returned in his.

As Lucian began to teach Leah about his world and the more she learns about him, the more she sees his kind-hearted side. He really tried his best to get her to learn about and see the world – hoping that she would learn to embrace it.

The more insight we got into Lucian’s life, and his culture, the more understanding I became of his actions and of his world. As much as I thought his behavior was so freaking NOT ok in many situations, I understood that that was his cultural norm and that within that, he was trying really hard to make things work. Throughout everything, the good and the bad, it was impossible to ignore how strongly he cared for Leah. And when he did swoony thing, my heart just melted into a puddle of goo. But, like Leah, I held out on completely loving him until he finally gained, and more importantly, showed respect for her. Very, very important!

Part of what is conflicting comes because it becomes clear that while Lucian thinks he wants to break her, yet at any sign of her spirit actually breaking or being subdued, he feels strong remorse and wants nothing more than to reverse it… it was as if the whole idea of breaking her was a giant test to see if she was really strong enough NOT to break.

“Love is a blanket that keeps you warm not one that traps and suffocates you.”

And then, at about 70% there is a turning point where a) the cultural bindings that were influencing his actions were broken through, and b) certain things came into the light that explained and changed his behavior. And let me tell you, this was seriously STRONG writing because, I kid you not, within a matter of about 3 pages, I literally forgot ALL of my frustrations and any feeling of hate that I may have had for Lucian. They just disappeared!! Poof! Gone! And after that I had nothing but seriously strong love for him to the point that I’d say he’s one of my favorite book characters – hands down! In league with Bones, Barrons, Wrath, and all the other big swoony PNR uber-Alphas

This book has a big theme of being able to live while showing your true self – about not having to hide yourself behind an ‘image’. And the more you read about it, the more you understand the depth of the concubine/vampire relationship.

“Concubines understand and accept who we are, what we need and they give us more. Not just blood. A safe harbor where we can be who are are.”

“You live your day-to-day life hiding the essence of who you are; you don’t want to let someone into that life who won’t accept you for that same thing.”

And when it got good and they figured each other out, it was GOOOOOD!! Lucian and Leah were so functional as a couple!! All admitting mistakes, not keeping secrets, opening up to each other, working as a team… just wow. And seriously H.O.T.!!!!! Just non-stop swoony, sexy, funtional perfection!

The ending of the book wraps up this story, but leads right into book 2. There is a Prophecy to by fullfilled and clearly a lot more to the story. I absolutely cannot WAIT for book 2.

If you are a big fan of KA but kind of feel like going back to a PNR, this is a perfect read. If you haven’t yet read KA and you want to try it out, just bear in mind that her heroes do not usually come off as such major jerks as Lucian did in the beginning. This was a bit of an extreme. But as with all KA books (that woman is a freaking genius!!) you can’t help but just melt and fall in love with the hero.

So Kristen Ashley can write paranormal too! Not that I ever doubted her. A different take than what you normally think of when you hear about ‘vampires’. Lucien isn't your typical vampire. And Leah... well, she's not the typical concubine.
“Mine,” he declared.
“Never,” she returned.
His mouth moved to her ear and he murmured, “We’ll see.”

Leah Buchanan comes from a long line of concubines. She is summoned to be chosen to serve Lucien when she is forty years old. It is strange for her to start this whole new life at her age. She’s up for the challenge, but Lucien is more than she bargained for.

Lucien has been waiting. Waiting for Leah for twenty years. He’s watched her (not as creepy as it sounds) and waited for his time. It’s now his time. And he’s willing to do what ever it takes, break whatever rules he must, to have her the way he wants her. Leah isn’t crazy about this idea. She’s not crazy about Lucien at all.

Leah is feisty, she speaks her mind no matter what and has a sassy personality. Lucien is ALL alpha male. To the extreme! Possessive, sexy as hell and all that. There were MANY times in the book he pissed me off. Probably more than any other KA alpha. By the end, I loved him. But it was a journey to get there. Thankfully, his hotness carried me through the rough patches...
“You want my mouth between your legs?” he growled, even his voice, rough with desire, trilled through my system, making me squirm.
I did. I wanted his mouth between my legs. I wanted him inside me, his tongue or anything else he choose to put there.
I didn’t answer, instead I panted against his mouth.
“Do you want me?” he pushed.
“Lucien-” My voice was a breathy plea for release.
“Beg me.” he demanded.

Leah eventually warmed to him. Once she realized she was the one he wanted, the ONLY one she wanted. The one he’d been waiting for.
“I’ve been waiting for you since I knew you existed. But I’ve been waiting for someone like you for five fucking centuries.”

 photo 2a32ca32-a6e5-4424-8be0-bfc8d592c156_zps4cd1871f.jpg

There is some conflict (a lot of resisting for Leah, some vampire politics/drama and some family stuff). As much as Lucien peeved me at times, I was happy when he and Leah finally hit that point where they were together.
“When you come, the world stops”...
“Eight hundred, twenty-two years, I’ve never felt anything this beautiful.”...
“Eight hundred, twenty-two years, I’ve never seen anything so beautiful”...
“I could fuck you for eternity”

I have mixed feelings on this one. I really did enjoy it for the most part, but I can’t give it 5 stars because of the hero. I’m all for the asshole and jerk hero. Trust me, they are my favorite. But I think I spent more of the book agitated with Lucien than I did loving him. But by the end, boy did I love him! I did enjoy reading this book. I loved the writing, I couldn’t put it down once I started reading and the ending was beautiful. Even though it wasn't my favorite KA, it was still good for me! Looking forward to the next book in the series. Hot werewolf??? YES please!

WARNING! This review contains a lot of quotes from the book. I’ll need them to explain why I felt certain way. I don’t know how spoilery they are (actually I think some of them might be very spoilery). I also should warn you that is very long review. I never highlighted so much is any other book and I need to vent it all out. But if you are sensitive about hero being abusive and consider reading this book, forget about spoilers and read my review anyway!

I love Kristen Ashley books. They are my guilty pleasure. They are not perfect and are often in need of better editing, but I still enjoy them greatly. In the last six moths I’ve read 21 of her books! So I know what to expect of her writing. And I know that while some of her uber-alfa heroes may be a bit too controlling, they never cross the line. Unfortunately in this book Lucien crossed every lines you can draw between alfa-man and abusive jerk. I felt offended and enrage. I hated him. He is not the hero I wanted Leah to stay with. And when she finally gave up under his pressure, I felt like she lost, like we lost.

Firstly, Lucien with mind control forced Leah to make a contract with him, which allowed him to drink her blood, f*ck her and basically made her his property. In my mind this was pure slavery. After that, he took her from her house, lodged her in his, took her telephone, computer, passport and wallet. Moreover he forbad her family to see her and threatened Leah that he would kill her if she ever run away. It is only the beginning of the book and already all the red flags are up. But if it is not enough, he demands her loyalty, obedience and respect for him.

As if he didn’t want her to submit to his control, instantly acquiesce to his demands, all of which would be for her own good or her pleasure, even though she didn’t understand this. As if he didn’t want to show her that her life, entrusted in his care, would blossom beyond her imagining.

How patronizing! Do what I tell you, because I know it is best for you. And if she disobeys him, there is punishment. Leah is in constant fear of him. And he enjoys it!

Her fear spiked, the scent of it filling the hall and he felt his cock start to get hard in reaction as he felt her heart tripping against his chest.

Is it normal?! I don’t know how anyone can root for this couple to work! All I was hoping for was that Leah would escape or kill him.

I was shocked by Lucien’s treatment of his wife. Not an ex-wife, but very present-day wife. Yes, he is married and still decided to take Leah as a lover. So when his current wife rightfully stated her displeasure, Lucien went ballistic.

Therefore, he was in no mood to deal patiently with Katrina. He stepped out of the shower dripping wet and put a hand to her throat, silencing her invective. He lifted her clean off her feet and slammed her against the wall, her skull cracking against the plaster and held her there, his fingers squeezing. She clawed at his forearm with her nails to no avail. He held her squirming against the wall, deftly avoiding her kicking legs until he felt she understood his meaning. Then he dropped her.

This is so brutal! Now tell me that he is not abusive!
Furthermore,

“You must know I deserve an explanation,” she whispered.
He didn’t answer mainly because he knew nothing of the sort.

So he cheated on her and now blames her for being a bitch. Well, what did he expect? That she will buy him condoms and give her blessings?
If you think this is all, you are so wrong.

This was because I was witnessing something extraordinarily vicious. This was also because I was witnessing, no matter how indistinct, Lucien beating the shit out of his wife. If he ever got physical with me in that way he’d kill me in seconds.
“You just beat your wife in front of me!” I shouted.
“It wasn’t the first time but, fortunately, it was the last,” he replied indifferently.

After that Lucien explained that female vampires are as strong as males, so it is okay to beat them, they can take care of themselves. Do you feel reassured? I as hell don’t! She still was his wife for some time. He loved her in the past. And now when he is done with her, he beats her and doesn’t feel remorse. If I was in Leah place it would make me think what awaits me in the future when he will be done with me. And in this part of book both Leah and Lucien know that sometime in the future they will be done.

“And he had every intention of spending every night with Leah until he lost interest in her and released her.”

And just to show you how really cold Lucien is, this is the final of his history with Katarina:

When Lucien arrived, Julian handed him the torch. Without delay, he threw it at the wood and kindling at Katrina’s feet. And he gave her one last thing. Lucien held her eyes as she burned. When she was no longer of this world, he left, leaving Cristiano to gather the ashes and scatter them to the winds.

I know that she tried to attack Leah, but she was wounded, humiliated, dumped women. He should have be more forgiving, considering it was his actions that brought this result.

Did I forget to mention that he is also a stalker? He watched Leah for twenty years! He knows everything about her.

But I had to wait. Twenty years, Cosmo. I’ve lost twenty years. Or, more to the point, she’s aged twenty years and I’ve lost that.

Oh poor you! She aged. How unfortunate for you, you big jerk!

And then there is part where he forces sexual relationship on her. And seeing as it is romance of course she tried to resist, but never succeeded. But even if she enjoyed it in the end, there still were very disturbing scenes.

The next second I was against the wall, his body was pressed to mine, his hand in my hair yanking my head back in an arc that was painful not only at my neck but in my hair, and his mouth was on mine.

Do you see the word painful there?
Another example:

Oh no. My body burst into a flurry of frenzied motion, a futile effort at escape. I knew this would have no effect and it didn’t. My robe was gone in nary a second. My panties whisked down my legs in a blur of his arm. He spread my legs with his large hands and I opened my mouth to scream. The scream died in my throat as his mouth touched me. The sudden shock of his mouth moving on me killed my scream.

This scene is just pure rape! In other book (Wild Man) written by Kristen Ashley there is scene, where heroine tells her ex-husband:

“Newsflash, Damian, a woman is fighting you tooth and nail screaming, ‘No!’ at the top of her lungs, crying uncontrollably and begging you to stop and you still fuck her that… is… rape even if she is your goddamned wife.”

Isn’t it just what Leah was doing? She was fighting, and she was telling no. So why what in one book Ashley considers as rape in other she made as romantic interaction between heroes?

And in the end I was so so upset, when Leah felt in love with him. Her actions showed that femails are weak creatures who are ready to close their eyes on men’s flaws as lond as these men are hot and give them a lot of orgasms. I am very disappointed! She hasn’t just forgiven all his sins, she found explanations and justifications for them.

He wasn’t taming me. He was taming that part in me that held me away from his differentness. He was showing me who he was, what he was, how he behaved and I had to accept it, all of it, without him being anything but Lucien.

Come on, Leah! He is an abusive bastard! You hated him larger part of the book and now suddenly it is your fault you couldn’t understand his differentness? It is like saying that we should forgive abusive husbands because it is their nature to feel rage and they can’t help to unload it on their poor wives. It’s just the way God created him. And these are bad, bad women for not helping them feel better! Ridiculous! But I guess being hot gets you anywhere.

He could be bossy and annoying but that was just him and he was hot doing it so although we exchanged words because he was who he was and I was too.

I know that Kristen Ashley tried really hard to redeem Lucien bad qualities, but for me she failed. She tried to explain why he behaves in such manner, but I didn’t care for her reasoning. In my eyes after everything he has done, Lucien can’t be considered a hero worthy of love.

After reading all the mixed reviews, I got a bit worried about reading this one. I can honestly say, I'm glad I took the chance.

While I can understand that some people absolutely hated the hero, I did not.

Of course I agree that he was a freaking asshole...a lot of the time, but he was also a badass vampire. He wasn't some regular alpha guy. He was a highly respected vampire, who was over 800 years old. He was of a different species, born in different times, living a different kind of life, with different rules. Does this excuse him from being an asshole....no, but I could understand.

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1517

I have read plenty of books about vamps, and to be honest, most of them are assholes. That's what I like about them. I think he did redeem himself for the most part, and I do believe he loved her. I think he can't ever be fully redeemed, but then again....he is a big badass vampire !!

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1517

I actually loved his character ;) Apparently I have a major thing for assholes. I had more problems with the heroine, to be honest. She kept trying to resist him and to be strong...but she really wasn't. She gave in every single time. I liked her spirit, but the whole "trying to be someone else" and failing to do so, got on my nerves eventually.

Also, if you don't want to be a concubine (whore) to a vampire...why even go to the Selection ? Just because your family wants you too, doesn't mean you should. To me, she chose to be a concubine, and she was too stupid to even understand, what a concubine was.

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1517

If she would have asked questions, before even going to the Selection, she would have known what was right and what wasn't. But she apparently didn't give a shit, so that's on her !!!

The only other thing that really bothered me in this one, was the "Maggie" thing. She was probably a sweet girl, but damn, I actually started to hate her and she wasn't even really there !! Way..way way too much Maggie for me.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor frowny face gif

Anyways, I really enjoyed this one. Should have known I would... It's KA after all !!!

I highly recommend this series ;)

Hey look, there’s “The Joining” in this too, but with different meaning. I thought that while the concept might be old, JLA coined the term herself. Guess it’s always been a part of the vampire lingo or it’s a coincidence. Anyhowww, I’m not exactly having fun with this series, and I’m in a bit of a pickle with this one in particular.

Pickle 1: Lucien (H)

As you may have known, I’ve read probably twenty KA books at this point. So, I know the extent of macho-ness in her alpha male heroes. They like to test boundaries in one way or another. Lucien, however, was laying it a bit on thick (IMO). He was controlling to the point of crossing the line. But wait, this quote . . .

“You’ve missed everything. So I’ll say it so you can understand it. I’ve been waiting to have you since I knew you existed. But I’ve been waiting for someone like you for five fucking centuries.”

Even so, once he had her, he was like a man on a mission to tame his new pet. What officially made him a creep was the fact that he was 822 yo and the mind control mumbo jumbo he used on the h. Oh, let’s not forget the neeaarrrr cheating experience he almost did with some random mortal.

My pickle with this is I didn’t hate him even though maybe I should. He could be charming, sweet, thoughtful, and um, sexy. I liked his touchy-feely-ness with the h just like I loved how KA heroes showed their affection. I liked that he knew how to say “I’m sorry” even though he only said it only once, LOL.

Pickle 2: Leah (h)

Leah was a 40 yo woman whose maturity was in question. There were things she did that made her look immature. For example, the fact that she was expelled from Vampire school for passing notes and exchanging texts. Though I guess that spoke more about the school being dramatic than Leah.

In any case, I personally think she was a likeable heroine. She could handle Lucien just fine. I liked that she had a mind of her own, she was stubborn, and she made things difficult for Lucien. I agreed with her actions even though it might be a point of frustration for some readers.

Pickle 3: Idk What to Name This Section

“I don’t want a whore, Leah. I want you to accept who I am and what we are to each other.”

For a while, I liked the little retaliation Leah made to Lucien’s demands. Even going so far as pretending to be obidient. Unfortunately, it fell short because she eventually stopped fighting him and just sort of accepted and embraced her new predicament.

There was this part where Leah was being fed bullshit by Lucien’s father about the secrets Lucien had been keeping from her that led to a misunderstanding and her running away from him. While that might be eye roll worthy, I liked that she took off because it meant he’d chase her, explain himself and grovel. 😂

Other than that, I think the world was original but there wasn’t much to the plot. I would’ve liked for that to be explored more. The book was mainly just about Lucien, Leah, their romance, and their relationship issues. It was a long book that really did feel like it was too long.

“I’m taking my mortal as my mate. You love me, I love you, we’re connected, what we have is beautiful and that’s all it’ll ever be. For eternity. Until the end of days. Until the sun falls from the sky, all you and I will share is beauty.”

This review is confusing. Now that I’ve broken it all down, it seems like I wasn’t really in a pickle, was I??? I mean, it’s clear I liked the book just fine. Didn’t I??? I probably wouldn’t know what I was talking about if I ever read this post in the future. The point is I liked this more than the 2nd book but not much better. I have one more book to go before I’m through.

4 Falling Stars.

Leah comes from a long line of successful concubines, and now, for the first time she was called for a Selection. An event where vampires choose a concubine. But for some reason all eyes are on her and she senses everybody knows something she should know. Until Lucien arrives and marks her as his Master. But their relationship since the beginning isn’t the traditional between a Master and a Concubine. Pretty much because there are feelings between them and Lucien was waiting for Leah for twenty years. (In a non-creepy way, I swear!). But a loving relationship between them is forbidden, but soon they will find out, that fate destined them together a long time ago. They’ll only have to find a way to survive it.

At this point I strongly believe that Kristen Ashley is the most versatile author I know. She can write about badass guys, about English Lords in haunted manors, she can write about vampires and werewolves and create completely different worlds, and she will always deliver an amazing romance story. I’ve started this book with a little hesitation because I’m a little “sick” of all this vampire books wave, but I really liked this one. It isn’t, by far, one of my favorite books of her, mainly because I normally love the heroes and this one fell a little behind on that point (see below). This series are all connected to each other, and it left me really curious about the next book. So if you want to read some PNR with the certainty that will be a good book, Kristen Ashley is always a safe bet.

Rating: 4 Stars.
Characters Development: Surprisingly, Lucien was not one of my favorite KA heroes. And most of that due to one particular event where I just wanted to kill him. (And considering he’s an immortal vampire, that’s saying a lot!). Although he did a lot of things to redeem himself, they weren’t enough considering all his past. In this defense we has basically 800 years older than Leah, but still. If he was waiting for her for centuries he should have been a little more attentions. Leah was good, she was funny and fierce, but I think she let Lucien escape with some things she should not have. Technically he was her Master and she had to obey and respect him, but if she didn’t do that in things that didn’t matter, why didn’t she act that way in the things that actually matter?
Although there were some good characters in this book, I missed KA crazy supporting characters and it lacked the humor they normally bring to her books.

2 to 2 1/2 stars

I'm exhausted and still trying to come to terms with the fact I did not like this book like I thought I would. While I'll admit the last 30% somewhat redeemed this story and hero for me, it was not enough to make it one of my favorite Kristen Ashley books.

Since so much has already been said about this story, Lisa P's review was spot on and not only captured my emotions and feeling about this book but about the heroine as well. Sure, at times she was immature, but considering the situation she was in, it worked for me.

And a special thanks to those of you that jumped on my very emotional roller-coaster ride. I couldn't have asked for more supportive, understanding and encouraging friends.

Fans of the paranormal romance genre are painfully aware that vampires have been done to death, and it’s hard to find a unique take on their world. They’re always immortal, tormented, domineering, powerful man-whores, and hey, some are even sparkly vegetarians… but the bottom line - they’re always the same and that gets old. Fortunately Kristen Ashley has created a unique world where vampires were once free to be what and who they are, until they were forced into hiding their true natures. Thanks to Lucien, things might just be looking up for them, and this is a big part of what makes this vampire romance so exciting!

To be honest, this one was slow to start for me, but it was probably more my problem than the book’s. Looking back, I can’t think of a single reason why it didn’t grab me from the beginning, so yeah… I’m sure it was a ‘me’ thing. Edited to add: No, it wasn't a "me" thing, it was the story. I did a quick re-skim and it was still slow to start. Oh well, it happens.

Lucien is a domineering ass, right from the start… but most of KA’s heroes are, and I wouldn’t want them any other way! Leah is a strong, stubborn, independent female, like all of KA’s heroines - who I also adore - so I don’t think it was her keeping me from investing right away. I’ll have to chalk it up to one of life’s mysteries that may never be answered, but it doesn’t matter because when it’s all said and done, thanks to Lucien’s crazy sexy-self Until the Sun Falls From the Sky ended up being a story I just couldn’t put down.

3.5/5 stars

This book disturbed me in a couple of ways. I have read my share of bodice rippers, old skool Harlequins and Non-Con erotica and enjoyed them all. I have read some very dark anti-hero romances and enjoyed those too, but I have very rarely come across a couple and a story who made my stomach churn in disgust as much as this couple did.

To begin with, the basic subtext of this story is prostitution. This familial line of women sell their bodies and blood to vampires in return for financial stability. This is a family tradition and it goes back for hundreds of years. Okay, I can deal with that. I accept prostitution as a valid career path if that is what the lady in question wants and is happy with her lifestyle choice.

What I don't accept and really have a hard time with is that the h in this book Leah, doesn't get a choice. She is basically told this is what she will do and when she protests, the H, Lucien takes control of her will and mind and forces her consent. How is this any different from rape or slavery and what the hell is this subtext doing in a romance novel?

This isn't a case of the h being in a bad place at a bad time and having to make choices to survive 100 or 200 years ago. This is a case of a 40 year old modern woman being reduced to chattel and objectification because the biggest relationship in the book isn't the relationship between Lucien and Leah - it is the relationship between Lucien and his ego-centric wants.

Lucien takes what he wants and forget any objection, concern or out right refusal Leah may have. He places Leah into object/pet status and keeps her there for the rest of the book. When Leah, (in one of the few rational choices she makes) tries to protect herself by mentally raising shields and treating her time with Lucien as a job to be done, Lucien goes nuts and consistently beats her down until she "surrenders completely" to him. Essentially, Lucien is a virulent parasite with symbiotic tendencies but this book makes it seem okay, even admirable, to be completely subjugated with no free will and used a food source by a merciless predator as long as the object in question gets some nice clothes and comfortable life style out of it.

Leah is supposed to be this strong woman and the "special one" of her family's line, and frankly if her actions are special and strong, I don't give much credence to this family and really don't think much of her predecessors. Any strong woman worth her salt, given the actions of Lucien for 85% of this book would have found a way to use a stake or completely remove herself from the situation by offing herself. Even when Leah decides to run, she does so in full expectation that Lucien will hunt her down and kill her - she doesn't even have the courage to do it herself or at least try to take him with her.

This lack of positive action and passive acceptance of whatever Lucien wants to hand out to Leah is supposedly excused and condoned because by the end of the story, they are "in love" and have a real relationship not dictated by any nasty commercial interactions. Which of course is the other problem with this book.

In any real romantic relationship there should be a certain equality, some essential ingredient that each party brings to the table and when combined equals a loving, sharing partnership with a true HEA. This sharing with each partner contributing just does not happen in this story. It is made clear that Leah is physically, mentally and psychically inferior to Lucien (and his entire species) in every way and when there is no opportunity for one partner to express an equal participation and strength in a relationship how can anyone believe in a true partnership with the requisite HEA?

Leah is never asked to make a choice, indeed every time the opportunity is there for Leah to play a proactive part, Lucien makes the decision and preempts any thought or action of free will that Leah might make. This is explained away as keeping Leah "safe", although when it really counts to keep Leah safe - Lucien noticeably and gigantically fails to do so by lying to Leah by both omission and deliberate false statements and by also failing to provide a physical presence to protect her from of all things, his own father.

Even the decision to marry and stay together isn't dictated by Lucien being unable to continue function in life without Leah and her love or by Leah being offered the opportunity to stay with Lucien come what may and damn the torpedos. The entire decision for them to continue as a couple is made by the eldrich council of Elders proclamation of some vague prophecy in which Leah's function is basically a breeding machine with some extra-human powers - it is still made clear that her role is that of an adjutant and she is still inferior - basically she is Lucian's walking, talking sex toy, breeding machine and diversionary pet. She is there to amuse and entertain Lucien and prevent his boredom in between battles and Leah just thinks it is cool she gets to shop and she gets some superpowers. That isn't a romance, that isn't a real relationship and it isn't a real HEA.

I felt a lot of sorrow mixed with disgust by the end of this book, when I picked it up I expected a dominating Alpha male paired with a feisty, spirited woman who still manages to contribute and assert herself. What I got was an short, sharp lesson in objectification and mind control and there wasn't even any interesting kink to liven it up. This left me feeling a bit blue, like finding a potentially beautiful flower killed by frost before it has a chance to bloom - and that is a horrible way to end a romance novel.

*2.5* I don’t know what I was thinking when I first read this book and loved it.

He’s 822 years old
She’s 40 but acts 12
OW drama

Her immaturity ruined the story. Here is just one example.

“You were expelled from Vampire Studies?”

“I was caught texting, passing notes, throwing spitballs and writing my Last Will and Testament,” I declared.

What 40 year old woman is passing notes and throwing spitballs?

Questions:

If he discovered her at 20, what made him wait until she was 40 before he made his move?

Are we seriously not even going to talk about the fact that her aging aunt was his lover/concubine 50 years prior and ‘kept an eye on her’ for him? Excuse me while I go vomit.

4.5 BLOODY DELICIOUS LUCIEN STARS

HOLY ALPHA MALE HOTNESS, KA HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!!!!!!

Seriously, Kristen Ashley is the best, most kick ass author!! This book was fantastic. Just plain freaking terrific . I love her and her books. Until the Sun Falls from the Sky has it all, sex, angst, alpha males, a strong female lead and a flipping terrific plot. There were no dull moments, I was completely captivated and entranced. The thing about KA books that I love are the details in her writing. She has a way of building these imaginary worlds that just suck you in. You can picture everything so clearly, it's like living the book. A movie that plays out in your head with you in it. It's brilliant!!! She's the freaking Queen of Alpha Males, there is no way to describe just how perfect her men are. They can go from being an as*, to making your panties combust in 2 seconds. Swooning is a major side effect of her books!! And I'm STILL in full out swoon mode for Lucien.

Feeding from Leah was like drinking in heaven. Doing it with his hands between her legs, her soft body pinned under the weight of his, enveloped in the smell that was all her mingled with the scent of her sex in a heightened state of arousal, was nirvana."

Ummmmm YEAH
YES
YES
YES
YES

When you come, the world stops," he growled against my lips as I kept trembling through my orgasm. "The whole world becomes nothing but you, your p*ssy, your p*ssy taking my c*ck and me."
"Darling," I whispered, holding tighter as my body jolted with his thrusts.
"Eight hundred, twenty-two years, I've never felt anything this beautiful," he whispered still driving and my eyes, half closed, shot open.
Oh God.
I loved that he thought that.
he wasn't done.
His gaze held mine. "Eight hundred, twenty-two years, I've never seen anything this beautiful."
Oh God.
GOD!
"I could f*ck you for eternity," He whispered.

SWOOOOOOOOON
DOUBLE SWOOOON
TRIPLE SWOOOON
MMMMM...HMMMMMM

Those two quotes alone should be enough of a reason to pick up this book and start reading it. It's hot, hot, hot!!!

Leah is a concubine that is scheduled to be at a selection where Vampires pick who they're going to take to feed on. It's consider a prestigious thing being selected at a selection. If they are selected they receive compensation and are taken care of by their vamp for the rest of their days. Leah Buchanan comes from a long line of concubines and her family is highly respected. What Leah doesn't know is that she has been marked by Lucien one of the most respected and feared vampires. Lucien marked Leah twenty years earlier and has been watching and waiting for her to be at this selection. When Leah arrives, she's forced into consenting to Lucien terms and becomes his concubine against her will. Lucien has been dreaming of the challenge of 'taming' Leah and breaks lots of rules making sure Leah is his. Their story is hot, sexy, intense, funny and amazing. Lucien thinks he's signing on to get a concubine with more than just feeding benefits but his world and her world are soon flipped upside down when they realize what they feel for each other is a lot stronger than they thought.

Oh boy.....what an awesome relationship they have. Leah is feisty and hot tempered, whiny and high maintenance. She is unbelievably awesome. She give's Lucien a run for his money. She fight's the relationship and connection as much as she can and goes down swinging.

“Don’t try me,” Lucian warned in my head.
“Kiss my concubine ass,” I returned in his.”

I laughed out loud so many times with some of her snarky witty comebacks. This girl is a girl after my own heart.

Lucien made my heart leap. I've read a couple of KA alpha's now and he definitely made my top five. Mmmmm...mmmm...mmmm, I love a man with a dirty mouth and a mind of his own. I also love a man that knows what he wants. Lucien is the whole damn package. He does come with a side of douche-bag though and that's were this book lost half a star for me. He did a couple cringe worthy things that made my heart stop. I felt my pulse rising several times through one scene in particular and I thought I was going to break my kindle from being so annoyed and upset BUT he totally redeems himself. Lucien has a lot more going on than just 'taming' Leah. His breaking of the rules, to have Leah for more than just feeding has stirred a war in the vampire community and Leah and Lucien are unwittingly apart of a plan that is much bigger than they could have ever expected.

Sigh....I love a good love story and what they have is sweet and magical. I loved, loved, loved it.

“You’ve missed everything. So I’ll say it so you can understand it. I’ve been waiting to have you since I knew you existed. But I’ve been waiting for someone like you for five f*cking centuries ” ~~ Lucien

“I’m taking my mortal as my mate. You love me, I love you, we’re connected, what we have is beautiful and that’s all it’ll ever be. For eternity. Until the end of days. Until the sun falls from the sky, all you and I will share is beauty.” ~~ Lucien

I'm beyond excited to read the second installment in this series With Everything I Am. Kristen Ashley never ceases to amaze me and I'm never disappointed with her books. This book is definitely another add for the famous favorite Kristen Ashley shelf :)

5 Pet & Mighty Vampire Lucien Hearts!!! :D <3

“If you give me you, Lucien, then I promise. I’ll give you me.”

This was simply amazing!! LOVED it! Lucien was an asshole at times, but the love between him and Leah is heartbreakingly sweet. Not to mention, I was in love with his uber alpha self. ;P KA really writes PNR fabulously!

Fave Quotes:

“I love you, Leah. I’ve loved you for twenty years and I’ll love you for eternity. My beautiful Leah, listen closely. What I say is pure truth. And on this truth, you have my vow.”

“You love me. I love you. We’re connected. What we have is beautiful and that’s all it’ll ever be. For eternity. Until the end of days. Until the sun falls from the sky, all you and I will share is beauty.”

“You can't stalk what's yours", he returned.
I looked at his shirt. "Yes, I suspect that's what all the stalkers say.”

“Love is a blanket that keeps you warm, not one that traps and suffocates you.

3 MAYBE 4 ALPHA-VAMP STARS.

description

I'm well aware by now that Kristen Ashley writes some of the best alpha males, so when Anna my book friend waved this under my book nose it instantly got my attention. KA always delivers on the story lines for my reading taste and with the added unpredictability of a paranormal romance I knew I'd be in for a reading treat and I wasn't that far wrong, this story was both entertaining and sexy and although I didn't crown this with the full out five stars, I'm more than glad I spent time in KA's world of vampires. Here are my alpha-tastic book thoughts ...

description
What's it all about?
For centuries Leah Buchanan's family has been serving vampires with their particularly enchanting blood this arrangement has placed her family at the top of the food chain when it comes to the hierarchy of human servers. Fast forward to present day and you are presented with one reluctant, feisty but beautiful heroine who is next up to service the formidable but addictive Lucien, a vampire that is both revered and respected in his vampire community. But there is more than meets the eye with this duo, bring into the mix a history of rules, secrets, reluctance to fit the mould and vampires that are ready to kill and you get this sexy, dramatic paranormal romance that delivers eternity love and drama by the page full.
description
What did I love?
Let me start by saying that Kristen Ashley delivered once again an alpha male that had me hooked, Lucien was overbearing, protective and out right at times over the top. There were occasions when I loved him and times when the brute of a vampire needed a telling off, but for me no author can provide this genre of character better than KA. The heroine of this book was delightfully naughty, she hardly played by the rules and her feisty, rebellious nature was both endearing and playful - I definitely connected with her boisterous ways and she is a heroine that I'm not soon to forget. I like that even though this story is a paranormal romance it wasn't so far fetched that it was not relatable, in fact I think I'd go as far as to say that KA created a world that I found believable. The story had a bit of everything included; romance, unforgettable characters, drama, suspense, storyline history, unrequited love, and lots more. I was entertained and although KA's books tend to be lengthly I found it for the most part a delightful page turner. One of the biggest factors I appreciated in the book was the understanding of their connection, the relationship was built up over time and there was not a hint of insta love.

description

Why not five?
I felt utterly conflicted rating this story it had highs and lows, up's and downs. There were times when I was excited about the storyline and most definitely had the five star feel but at other times the story fell a little flat for me and I would go as far to say that I was at times a little bored feeling more like a three star standard. Now here's the odd time where you will find me complain about an alpha, yes at times I felt this loveable but broody alpha vamp went too far and his actions bothered me, but I also applaud the author for creating a character that could draw out so many emotions as I was reading about him. Ultimately I don't have to explain that Kristen Ashley is a genius at putting a story together but it didn't have that wow I love this book to bits feeling from beginning to end.

Final thoughts ...
Love a paranormal romance? Can't resist an alpha? Love a tasty, dramatic vampire theme? Then this may just be your next five star winner, as for me it didn't have a consistent five star feel, but I'm more than ready to get my wolf on with the next in the series. Go grab it readers, enjoy ... Kisses.

Holy cataclysmic 5 blood-sucking stars !!!!

I've been waiting to have you since I knew you existed. But I've been waiting for someone like you for five fucking centuries

and all the millions and billions of beings on the planet through time, he had to find her. Through all of his centuries and sometimes millennia of living, he had to search out his one true love, the other half of him and bind himself to her

S-WOOOOOOOON - FAINT !!!! This is a story that a hopeless romantic like me .... Devours! I loved it! This was the kind of thing dreams were made of and Lucien delivered !! Patiently waiting ...........

Well he's 822 years old !!! Don't make the man wait any longer !!!

I really enjoyed reading Leah's point of view. I found her refreshing and fun ! I only got annoyed with her once but I knew she would pull through. When she finally opened her eyes to see the man before her .... It was epic! I was in love ❤️

If you give me you, Lucien, then I promise, I'll give you me

My favorite :

Until the sun falls from the sky. The words of the Ancient Claiming Ceremony.
He spoke them as a vow "Until the sun falls from the sky. I love you Leah. I've loved you for twenty years and I'll love you for eternity. My beautiful Leah, listen closely. What I say is pure truth. And on this truth, you have my vow. Until the sun falls from the sky."

4 Oh my Lucien Stars

I need this. I’ve been craving for a paranormal book and this is my first from KA. It had everything I wanted in a paranormal and KA read.

Alpha male Check

Strong and suborn Heroine Check

Hero chasing the Heroine Check

Crazy steamy scenes! Double Check

Leah is part of the Buchannan clan. She’s kind of like noble blood within the vampire world, even though she is human. In this world, humans are concubines for the vampires. So the vampires use the human to feed and in return the human is cared for financially.

Leah doesn’t want to be a concubine, but she is just making her debut. It’s kind of like when you come of age, you are ready to date, but in this case, she she’s finally single and she is requested to be at the selection (where vampires pick concubines).

Lucien is a very old vampire. He’s established and is kind of like a celebrity in the vampire world. He has taken notice of Leah and he wants her.

Even though Leah doesn’t want to be taken. So he mind-tricks her into being his concubine.

What worked for me is that when you get a paranormal read, there is this world you are introduced to. Sometimes there are a lot of facts and new things you need to learn, but with this one, there wasn’t much and I found myself enjoying this world then trying to figure out what’s going on.

I also loved the characters. I loved Lucien. Everyone knows KA writes some good alpha males. What made this one so different is that Lucien is a vampire so he speaks more refined. Most of KA males have the Southern drawl, not that there is anything wrong with that, my husband is southern, it’s just something different is good.

I liked Leah. She’s very headstrong and it worked for me. I like it when the Heroine makes the Hero work for it and oh boy there’s plenty of sexual tension to keep you interested.

Most of the book is about Lucien trying to get Leah to submit to him. I really liked the push and pull of the relationship. Of course there’s issues, like the council (kind of like the vampire police) and ex’s, like Lucien’s previous mates (like vampire wife). It’s just crazy, but fun and good.

If you love KA reads and want something a little different, then I recommend this one.

This review is as rambling as the book 😂

I decided to do a reread of this series because it's some of KA's books that I read in my pre Goodreads days so I didn't write a review. Getting through this book is torturous

Leah is a 40 year old woman who acts like a squealing, stubborn , hormonal teenager
Lucian is a manipulative, arrogant vampire who's of course dominant and has to have his own way
He's been feeding and being intimate with Leah but in a fit of pique because she objects to him beating his wife, he goes off and feeds from another woman. He's aroused during this feeding and intends to have sex wth the woman. We fade to black at this scene when he tells her to take off her dress(we later learn he didn't have sex with her though he tells Leah he was tempted but at this point we're not sure)
He returns to Leah smelling of OW and starts to feed from Leah and they get intimate with him fresh from the OW. Leah is pissed but with her betraying body she can't help that he makes her feel good
80% of this plot consists of the mcs arguing while he attempts to tame her and him saying entire paragraphs while saying absolutely nothing
I think this was one of KA's most foolish h's, this girl woman could out stubborn a mule, she giggled constantly, she had absolutely no backbone and pulls a TSTL move by believing the words of a known badguy and fleeing into the night. As bad as Lucian was he should've left her right there. Leah the 40 year old going on 13 was actually expelled from vampire school for passing notes and texting in class! LISTEN.....I mean c'mon!!!!!This woman is stupid!
Now the other parts of the plot actually looked promising as Lucian defied The Council's rules to be with Leah and there was talk of war but it all fizzled out in the end as it leads to the next book in the series
Lucian saw Leah 20 years ago and marked her,he couldn't be with her according to the rules but what I don't get is why the 20 year separation was necessary! He still risked it all to be with her just 20 FREAKING years later!!!!
We get frequent mentions of Lucian's human love Maggie who died many moons ago
Further OW drama from his child's mother and from his wife who desperately wanted him back
Lucian actually had a knock down drag out fight with his wife and admitted they'd fought before and he'd broken some bones, vampire or not this was beyond disgusting
After the one incident at the feast Lucian didn't feed from or was intimate with any OW

I can tell this series will have me banging my head against a wall but I'm trying to make it through to the end

Oh my oh my oh my!

5+++ stars for this one!

KA has shown the ability to create a world for every genre, and this one was so great, I want more, NOW!! The book had me hooked, I couldn't put it down for a minute :) This is a different vampire world, a bit altered from all the others we see in movies and novels, but I liked it, the explanations came gradually through the book, it was not dumped in one chapter and it was not overwhelming at any point.

For one, I liked the fact that they are real vampires, that feed on human blood (not animals - yuck, and not bottles - which don't make sense). The good part is that they are almost like humans, they can eat and be on the sunlight and there was not a mention of crosses or holy water in the whole novel, and I loved that! I recently read a vampire novel where he had to throw up everything he ate, seriously gross loool

Second, Lucien was not a brooding hero. Well thank fuck for that. I'm really sick of every vampire hero who spends his time feeling sorry for himself, disowning his vampire nature and in conflict because he has to turn the love of his life into a vampire. This does not happen here. Lucien is completely at ease with himself and with what he is. He's a classic KA uber-alpha badass, maybe even more than others. He was freaking great! I loved him even when he was reeealy bad to Leah, because it hurt him to see her broken later, and I was all mushy when he was all good and sweet <3 Man was he great!

Leah :) Well, for one, FINALLY, I didn't get that sicko feeling when a 100+ year old vampire falls in love with a schoolgirl of 16. That always has me screaming in my head "helloooo sick bastard she's just a child!".
Leah is 40 :) and mature, and has actually lived some life before she was "claimed" by Lucien. She's awsome, I loved her, mostly because she had sass, so even though Lucien was feared even by vampires, not only humans, she stood up to him and their fights were great, even though he behaved like a jerk XD

All and all this was a fantastic read, I loved the new world KA invented, the characters were strong and believable, the story was great even though it was left open for the sequel *squeal* I want to read it right now! And I don't know if any of you noticed, but I guess KA has a liking for Underworld XD First Lucien in this one, then Sonia with the werewolf (just like in the movie) lol I wonder who will be in the third book XD

Well, I'm in quite the pickle here folks. Big, big conundrum... big...HUGE! How the hell do you rate a romance book where you loved the hero, liked the plot, but hated the heroine?!? Hmmmm? What the hell do I do?

Image result for thinking gif

Leah....oh Leah. Leah is 40 years old....40 YEARS OLD PEOPLE....yet she behaves and speaks like an annoying, frustrating, stubborn and obnoxious teenager! I understand that she's not a big fan of this whole concubine business, but when your first task is to sit through Vampire Studies to learn their history, culture, traditions, etc...what you don't do is text on your cell phone, throw spitballs and make snarky remarks to get expelled (all this done for that reason).

THEN, you don't proceed to spew uninformed and ignorant bullshit and judgment at them because of your immature attitude and absolute unwillingness to learn about them.

Leah carried on this judgment for about 80% of the book. That's right folks....80%!!! Lucien did his best to teach her and inform her (in really wonderful and creative ways) but of course her stubborn and frustrating self just wouldn't absorb anything.

Image result for you're an idiot gif

Lucien wasn't perfect by any means, and he had his moments of alphahole tendencies (that first feeding, I'm looking at you), but everything he did was within his rights and for the most part, I understood his motivations and reasoning (I didn't agree sometimes, but I understood). And Dumbass Leah would blow so many situations out of proportion in one of her obnoxious and stubborn fits (which of course Lucien found "adorable" - where's the bathroom so I can hurl?)

Lucien did everything in his power to take care of Leah...above and beyond what is normal for a Vampire/Concubine relationship (Dumbass Leah would know this if she wasn't expelled from her Vampire classes). He not only gave her his protection, but his affection, his attention, his true self....and eventually, he gave her a level of intimacy that he's never had with anyone before. And Leah took almost every single one of those things for granted (and at times threw them in his face).

So to Leah I say, thank you for ruining this book for me and...

Image result for you're an idiot gif

So here's my dilemma. I loved Lucien, and the plot was really interesting with the whole Mortal and Immortal Agreement...even though KA lost me a little when she started talking about prophecies (felt too forced of a setup for this series), the main secondary characters were great (loved Stephanie and Edwina), and the sexual tension was fantastic....BUT....

I felt nothing when it came to the romance. I didn't understand what Lucien saw in Leah, I didn't believe her one bit when she finally came around, I didn't buy into their affection and emotion AT ALL. Because of Leah, I wasn't invested in the romance aspect of this book ONE TINY BIT.

The potential was there....oh man, this could have been fantastic, but I just kept thinking of Lucien being with Leah and ...

Image result for you could have had better gif

Ok, ranty rambling over.

p.s. Leah, I really hate you for ruining this book for me.

Sorry, I just had to get that out.

I really hate to say this cos I love my girl KA, but IMO, she should not write PNR. Granted this is the 1st book in this series. We all know that alot of times 1st books are hard to get through. Which I call "1st book syndrome" With the world building etc.. these things are often times slow and hard to get through. But what my problem was, well one of them, with this book is that 85% of this book was not really world building. It was being stuck in a nice house, on nice property with a cook, a childish 40 year old woman getting away with countless acts of defiance with an eight hundred and twenty two year old vampire. For lack of a better word, it was boring. There was nothing put on the pages that was gripping, emotional, heartfelt anything. It drove me nuts waiting for something to click and cause all of this suffering to be worth it. But Sadly this did not happen.

I was so ready to do this to Leah so many times
Photobucket
Or even this...
Photobucket

Now this isn't hard to figure out from my previous comment, but I did not like the lead h in this story, Leah. And even though she got a bit better during the last segments of this book, it was too little too late for me. Since majority of this book set her in a very unfavorable light.

Lucien:Very ALPHA of course. But for me nothing sexy, nothing compelling about him really. This is PNR. And with Lucien I am missing that underlining animalistic essence that is usually present amongst Alpha vampire males.
You know the one I'm talkin about.. The one where you can't help but do this..
Photobucket
Or this..
Photobucket
Yeah.. I didn't get that from Lucien.

There is brief and when I say brief I mean VERY brief set up for the next book or books to this series. Alot of things that happen in the latter part of this story could have and should have been mentioned early on in the story. IMO, I think it would have helped in the set up of wanting me to come back for book 2, but it also would have made this story ALOT more interesting. Giving purpose to why we're even reading about Lucien & Leah in the first place.

I understand book 2 is to go into the world of Werewolves. I'm hoping KA does alot better on that front. But I am not certain yet if I will be reading the 2nd installment to this series.

So I cannot in good faith say that I would recommend this read.
And I am really sick & sad that I can't say that about my girl KA's effort.

So... If you'll excuse me.

H is 822; h is 40.

Reading this gross “romance” as the Epstein sex scandal plays out adds a different perspective.

In the universe this is set in the heroine’s female line has essentially pledged themselves as concubines to vampires for generations. The vampires can marry and have mates, but use the concubines as a life source and sex. OK, so they are mistresses. The upside to being a vampire’s side piece is you get taken care of for the rest of your life and your looks improve from the bloodsucking and vamp pheromones. Our current H still visits his decrepit old squeezes on their birthdays. What a sweetheart.

The heroine is dragged to the Regency ball encounter by her sycophantic mother to meet her new Master. The h is a special snowflake as unlike the other very willing victims she doesn’t try as hard with her makeup and hair. Oh yay.

Their romance begins as he breaks the rules and stays over night. He even beats up his wife who shows up and wants to kill the heroine. Yes, he’s married and he beats the squat out of his wife, but it’s okay cause that's how vampires settle domestic disputes. She’s not a good wife anyway. After fifty years she still can’t identify good champagne.

Epic stuff happens that I skimmed over because I was just too grossed out. I don’t think KA was trying to make a statement about cheating, stalking, women being pimped out by family, an unfair power exchange that can still exist between men and women, exchanging a starter wife for a trophy wife, mistresses, D/s relationships, etc and so forth. I think she was just trying to write a fun book because, hey, vampires are sexy. Usually.

As much as I hated the alpha/Dominant/arrogant H, I hated the heroine’s mother and family even more. Hated them. Pimping out your daughter to protect your lifestyle is never a winner.

Things to ponder and …some spoilers

Why does he wait until she’s 40 to take her? He stalks her for about 20 years. He could have had her as an 18 year old nubile virgin. Was the 804 year difference between this very May-December relationship too much, but 782 years is no biggie?

Where is her father? And I write that in the same exasperated tone any mother would have.

Do these sub/mistresses not feel bad when they get kicked to the curb for the next blood fountain?

After their first night, he comes home to find her reading. Why oh why KA, did you not have her book be Twilight? Come on, throw us a fang.

Her whole family, the females, have been hooking up with vampires for generations and the heroine knows nothing about vampires or how this prostitution system works.

Are there any fat vampires? Geeky ones with big Adam’s apples? Wimpy ones in need of Charles Atlas training program?

If the victims gets drunk does the bloodsucking vampire?

Celebrating the start of my Christmas jollies with a KA re-read. This is how I party.

I wasn't sure I fancied this series, mainly because I find vampire stories can get a little too complicated with all of the rules and legends vamps have to abide by, but it was a KA and a couple of reviewers mentioned alphas so I decided to go for it.

Flip me this was good. It had all of the usual elements that make for an absorbing KA read - the reluctant woman won over by the protective, hawt, alpha, the jeopardy, the smut - but all set in a world where vamps live alongside humans, a world that seemed completely plausible and real thanks to KA' s writing.

I have to give a special mention to the smut in this. The chemistry was hot, the romance sweet but omg the smut was off the page. For some reason the vamp feeding from their mate read like an incredibly sensuous, erotic experience; when the vamp was simultaneously feeding and bumping uglies with his mate....just read it, really, you'll see exactly what I mean.

This is a complete story, but there is unfinished business so I'm reading on with the next book. Highly recommended.

So we all know that Kristen Ashley can write sensational romance stories. The question is – can she write paranormal romance? I am happy to report that the answer to that question is a resounding HELL YEAH!!!

6 huge starts!

I FREAKING LOVE THIS BOOK!! Seriously, it was insta-love from chapter 1, and I was hooked the whole way through. It’s quite long, but at no point did it drag, or did I skip over anything – if anything, it’s the opposite!! I went back to read bits of it a second time so I could squee all over again. The story is mainly told from the point of view of the heroine, Leah, but we also get some chapters from Lucien’s point of view, which I loved because he’s a complex character, and it was great to be able to get into his head.

Anyway, on with the gushing…

Leah is an amazing heroine and a lot of fun. She wants nothing to do with the vampire world, but is drawn into it without a choice as part of her family heritage to be a Concubine (essentially, a blood source for vampires). She is ‘selected’ by Lucien to belong to him alone, and from the first meeting she fights him with everything she has. She is strong, opinionated and stubborn, and at 40 years old, is ridiculously juvenile. But I found the fact that she behaves like a petulant teenager at times endearing. And it made her tousles with Lucien that much funnier.

“Mine, he declared.
Never, she returned.
His mouth moved to her ear and he murmured, “We’ll see.”

Lucien is INCREDIBLE! Yes, he’s an entitled, controlling, possessive, arrogant ass - but hey, he’s a Vampire, and these things go with the territory. He has been watching Leah for 20 years, waiting for his chance to claim her as his own, and when the opportunity finally arises, he doesn’t mess around. Although he is secretive about his past, and about some aspects of vampire culture (there are reasons for this, which we find out later in the story), he is honest with Leah in educating her about his world and her role in it, and in telling her straight out what he wants, and making no apologies for it.

“I’ve been waiting to have you since I knew you existed. But I’ve been waiting for someone like you for five fucking centuries”

I can appreciate that at first many readers may think that Lucien is a complete jerk for the things he says and the way he behaves towards Leah, but as you come to understand him, his past and the world he comes from, you can appreciate why he is the way he is. As for me… I loved him from the start, and I’m adding him to ‘AJ’s Vampire Hall of Fame’ along with Bones, Vlad and the majority of the BDB crew.

I love the paranormal world that has been created. It’s actually not so much a ‘world’, because the vampires very much exist in and interact with the human world (they eat food, no problems with sunshine, they go shopping , etc.), it’s more the culture and traditions that play a big part. The back story was really interesting, especially how it all tied in to events taking place in the book. There's also a great cast of supporting characters. But it’s the relationship between Lucien and Leah that is the absolute focus of the story.

As with any Kristen Ashley book, there is the usual back-and-forth between Lucien and Leah, as well as INSANE sexual tension and some wicked banter as Lucien tries to ‘Tame’ her (it’s not as bad as it sounds), and Leah comes to accept him for what he is. Actually, Leah coming to understand Lucien and his nature, and the fact that this is the world she now lived in reminded me of Bones’ epic “I am a Master Bloody Vampire” smackdown speech to Cat in the Night Huntress series (she totally deserved that speech by the way…). I loved watching her come to her realisation, and then start to open up to him.

“You live your day-to-day life hiding the essence of who you are; you don’t want to let someone into that life who won’t accept you for that same thing.”

And when she accepts him and he lets himself go with her, they finally come together… and HOT DAMN!! There is so much hotness and many swoon-worthy moments (who knew that that arrogant ass from the beginning of the book could pour on the romance!). In fact, the further the book went on, the more I swooned. I was flat out on the floor by the end of it!

“I’m in love with you, sweetheart.”

. You love me, I love you, we’re connected, what we have is beautiful and that’s all it’ll ever be. For eternity. Until the end of days. Until the sun falls from the sky, all you and I will share is beauty.”

“I love you, Leah. I’ve loved you for twenty years and I’ll love you for eternity.”

And it goes on like this!!!

The best news is, this is only book 1 in the ‘Three’ trilogy, and the ending of this book sets up the next two books brilliantly, so there is more awesomeness to come (although we do have to wait until later in the year for the next instalment).

I recommend this book to any PNR fan. The fact that it is Kristen Ashley writing it just makes it so much better!

Beware of spoilers in my quotes…

Update 29/06 - 4 days and 3 books later and I still cannot stop thinking about this book, have upgraded from 5 to 6 stars. Yes I know there's no 'real' 6 stars, but I award the extra star to books that are beyond awesome. And this totally is!

Here is 85% of this story:
1. Mortal concubine meets Big Bad Master Vampire and refuses him
2. Master Vampire both trumps concubine’s refusal and challenges existing vampire law
3. couple and sex, sex and couple, w/a few intrusions by meddling family members and green-eyed monsters

So, after trudging through that (seriously the longest I’ve ever taken to read a (KA) book in a while(LOL), finally the story lends purpose when the Master Vampire sets precedence for all vampires alike, whether anyone likes it or not, but he unknowingly becomes the pebble that dropped into the ocean to cause a threatening tsunami (only a threat of one). In the last 15% of the story, the reader is treated to the how and why.
The “secret” is revealed, which leads to The Prophesies, which lead to war (Wait, wasn't war coming anyway? Can we say “tedious”?). Seriously, if this had been hinted at or focused on in the beginning or detailed as history in a flashback or prologue, then it might have made more impact. Instead, it was just dropped awkwardly in the story as though a last attempt to breathe life into it, sans proper development. Moreover, this big secret, along with The Prophesies, is nerve-wrecking b/c the characters discuss it to death without the reader getting any evidence of its fruition!

Frustratingly, there ends the story, with a “sort of” promise that, in the next story of the series, things will happen(just plain mean).

Other concepts/vampire terms underdeveloped and just dropped upon the reader:
1. The title (Until the Sun Falls from the Sky). I will assume is a part of a mating chant, due to the Master Vampire saying it incessantly in his head, over and over, and then finally to his lover. Ugh!
2. The Council, The Dominion. Maybe one in the same, but how is the reader to know? Never got who the hell made up The Council.
3. Noble War. ????, Whatever!
4. The Sentence versus Sentence. The Sentence: sometime ago when war happened and vamps died (maybe mortals too). Sentence: death for leaving your mate or vamp lover.
5. Ancient Claiming Ceremony. Like a vampire marriage, and it was explained for the union of mortal and vampire only. I don’t know how, why, it needed to happen again. Maybe for mates it is different? IDK (rolls eyes)
I could go on. There needs to be a glossary, ya think? LOL

This SO wanted to be a good vamp story.

1 1/2 stars ( the 1/2 star is hope that KA's continuation of this series gets loads better!)

Kristen Ashley can write paranormal, hot-Alpha Male paranormal, Loved it!!!

Leah Buchanan comes from a very important family of vampire concubines, these women serve the dark creatures with their blood and their bodies to keep their master's fed and always satisfied. Leah hates the idea of belonging to a Vampire in exchange of luxury and protection, she doesn't understand this concept; something that has been a tradition between humans and vampires for over five hundred years now, to avoid war between both species. Lucien marked Leah twenty years ago, he's been waiting a long time for her and he's ready for the challenge. He knows Leah very well, he knows she's a rebel and that it will be hard for her to accept and submit to him but he's eager to brake her into her new role. Leah is having none of it, after the contract bounding her to the Mighty Hot Vampire, Lucien has been signed, she spends her days either planning her escape or plotting his murder, all this wearing amazing outfits and drinking martinis . Lucien is so freaking hot, there's no way Leah will be able to resist him ; I mean, I'll give it to the girl, it took her longer than any other heroine in the history of KA books to fall under the spell of our delicious hero. Now Leah has fallen for him but the laws of their world are against Vampires and humans from mating legally but their connection is something especial and as it turns out, without knowing Leah and Lucien are the key to start the course of the prophecy of The Three.

I really enjoyed this book, I'm not a big paranormal reader but this one was very entertaining and well written. Kristen Ashley created a very original Vampire tale and it was a lot of fun to read. My one complain was the heroine, the woman was forty going on 12, extremely childish and it was driving me crazy but she got better towards the end and I'm very excited to continue reading this great series...

”I’m in love with you, Mighty Vampire Lucien.”

Kristen Ashley’s book one of the Three Series is just Blood-Suckingly Awesome!

Leah Buchanan comes from a long line of vampire concubines. Yep, vampire concubines. They provide feedings to their master in exchange they receive protection and financial stability for their lives. Leah however isn’t interested in following this family tradition and keeps herself out of Selections for twenty years.

When her latest break up leaves her open to her invitation to The Selection she finds herself ushered by her mother and aunts to carry on the family’s tradition. She is selected immediately by Vampire Lucien and this story takes flight!

There are rules, hot steamy scenes, enemies and then there is Leah and Lucien…

”You love me, I love you, we’re connected, what we have is beautiful and that’s all it’ll ever be. For eternity. Until the end of days. Until the sun falls from the sky, all you and I will share is beauty.”

Personally I only have a Why I Love Lucien Vault!

Spoiler Free Review
4.5 STARS
Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy
Series: Book#1 in The Three Series

When Lucien refers to Leah as Life, I melted into a puddle it was one of the most romantic, most sexiest, most incredible usage of that word I have read.

"I can hear it, And see it. He's marked your every movement. Even the slightest movement you've made Leah, he's marked it. His heart is beating in tandem with yours exactly. Everyone knows, every vampire here that is, they can all hear it, see it, sense it. Nobody can do that like Lucien it's beautiful." ~Stephanie in Until the Sun Falls from the Sky

Leah Buchanan comes from a long line of concubines who have been in service to The Dominion of vampires for five centuries. Concubines service vampires by providing them with blood; this service has been known to last from 1 to 3 years per concubine. In return vampires provide a good lifestyle for the concubine for the rest of his/her life. And though it should be looked at as an honor Leah greatly dislikes the idea of one day becoming one. So when Leah is summoned to attend her first Selection she must go whether she likes it or not. The Buchanan's are the "cream of the crop" as far as concubines go and Leah has already been marked by a very powerful vampire named Lucien.

Lucien is about to change everything by going for what he desires even if it is against vampire laws to do so. Lucien has been waiting for his chance to claim Leah and the time has now arrived. Because of this Lucien does not act in haste, instead he is calculated and takes his time at Selection tracking and marking her in front of everyone before he declares his intentions. He quickly realizes that Leah will not be easily tamed. Of course this is not only the challenge he expects, this is the challenge he craves.

When a connection stronger than any immortal can have with a mortal forms between these two it not only opposes The Dominion. It sets off a chain reaction in the universe. Unbeknownst to them Leah and Lucien's Union have been prophesied. And along with them two other couples will fight to save mankind.

The Revolution begins NOW!

Thoughts
AMAZING! This book was AMAZING! I recommend it to allll PNR Lovers!!!
Not only was KA fresh with her original take on vampires she brings you a whole new world in her on creative way. For example "The Feast" and "Concubines" both terms we are familiar with; yet in her world she spins a nice twist to basic traditions. Then you add in prophesies, talk of war, ancient writings plus romance i swear it can't get any better. Great job KA!
Leah-I loved Leah she was so funny, thoughtful and gracious. She also proved to be courageous and strong showing she was truly meant to be Lucien's mate. I look forward to reading more about her in future books from this series.
Lucien-Sexy as HELL. Powerful and did not play when it came to getting what he wants. I loved him, even when his character would make me mad i still loved him. I do however wish he was more up front with Leah about his feelings and intentions from the start.
Avery-Proved to be a good ally for Lucien but was otherwise a silent yet strong presence.
Stephanie- I love Stephanie she was a great friend to both Lucien and Leah.
Etienne-Pure Evil. Also Lucien's father how crazy is that?!

Fave Lines from the book!
“If you give me you, Lucien, then I promise. I’ll give you me.”-Leah

“I love you, Leah. I’ve loved you for twenty years and I’ll love you for eternity. My beautiful Leah, listen closely. What I say is pure truth. And on this truth, you have my vow.” -Lucien

“You’ve missed everything. So I’ll say it so you can understand it. I’ve been waiting to have you since I knew you existed. But I’ve been waiting for someone like you for five fucking centuries ”-Lucien

“Don’t try me,” Lucian warned in my head.
“Kiss my concubine ass,” I returned in his.”

My Ratings
Characters- Lovable and Witty
Writing Style- Clever, Fresh, Potent and very Solid
Plot/Storyline- Fast Paced, Original and Sexy
Steam Factor- High/Very Steamy "Call emergency and ask for the fire department to put out the FIRE! HOT!"
Overall- I loved it!!! A MUST READ!!!!

Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on Goodreads!
