About the author

Katarina Taikon was a Swedish writer most famous for her autobiographical series Katitzi (little Katarina in Romani). The series Katitzi deals with the conditions of the Swedish Romany during the 1940s.

Taikon did not attend school as a child and did therefore not learn to read and write properly until she was an adult. Taikon became an advocate for Romany rights and worked to lessen prejudices against the group. Taikon acted in a small number of films, most often playing the part of a romani.

Taikon died in 1995 after recieving an accidental head injury.
