I was so excited to read this new book by my favorite Delta James! Dillon was hired by Cerberus when he was fired from Chicago PD for helping our guys out on another situation. Dillon is put in charge of protecting Pippa, another member's sister. I adored Pippa. She was brave and fiery throughout everything she was going through with her stalker. She had this false facade she put up so other people didn't see her true emotions. She showed Dillon all her fears and dreams. They both worked hard to have a beautiful future together!

Fourth book in the series. A newbie to the group. Already established in the series. Same group of characters, different story. Steamy, action packed and great read.

Cute is what comes to mind about Dillon. Though watch him turn alpha when danger comes knocking at Pippa's door. Steamy banter, attraction & danger to keep you entertained.

I was disappointed in this part of the CLUB SOUTHSIDE series. It was mediocre compared to the rest. Although I really liked Dillon and Pippa, the story and the action didn’t really get interesting until toward the end. The villain wasn’t even a surprise. If i hadn’t read and enjoyed the rest of the series, i would not be continuing this series.

BLOOD FOR BLOOD

The story is the fourth in the Club of Southside series and is a spinoff from some of the other books that will include several main characters from them that revolved around the Baker Street BDSM club. The Southside Club is an American version of Baker Street in London, including a Cerberus office. The main technical man in the group, Seth, has a younger sister who is a comic that has a large following. Now, it seems she has a stalker who is getting bolder with the threats. They will assign their rookie, former Chicago Cop, Matthew Dillon, to investigate and protect Pippa Newcomb, better known as the Mermaid Comic.

“I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep.”

The story is a mystery with romantic suspense as Dillon and Pippa, along with her team are trying to keep the scheduled shows going, but are concerned. No matter what steps they take, it seems the unsub is a step with them. Dillon is diving deeper into the cast and crew members' information while doing everything he can to protect Pippa—even from herself. When her best friend and assistant, Gretchen, is attacked outside of a venue, Dillon wants her to go into lockdown. Pippa is very intelligent, but she also wants to trust that no one on her team could be causing issues—but Dillon isn’t convinced. The more time they spend together, the closer they become physically—and to make it look convincing as to his presence, they will tell everyone that they are in a D/s relationship. They will even have a contract and move things forward.

Pippa: You’re so sexy when you go all protective Dom. The ‘unsub.’ Sexy technical jargon.
Dillon: You need to take this seriously.
Pippa: I am. I was just making an observation. And keep in mind, I’m a comic. I use humor to deflect stuff.
Dillon: You’re right. I’m just wondering how this creep—that’s another technical term—is getting so close without anyone noticing.

Has Dillon made a mistake allowing his personal feelings for Pippa to cloud his judgment and attention in keeping her safe? How did they become close so quickly? Could their feelings and attraction affect the assignment—or show their true emotions to those around them?

“His woman? When had that happened?”

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people. Someone has targeted Pippa, and how far are they willing to go? The threats are escalating, and can’t be ignored. I loved the chemistry between Dillon and Pippa. The story has plenty of action and life-and-death moments. The story does not end on a cliffhanger, it does have a segue that will set up the next story in the series.

I liked Dillon and Pippa. Their romance was kind of sweet. I liked that Pippa was mouthy and sarcastic. I liked that she was a curvy girl and proud of it. . I admit that with Pippa being considered an alpha sub, I expected the D/s aspect of the book to be stronger.

I would consider this one of the more tame Club Southside books. I usually read one of these books in one sitting. This one took me a couple of days.

The person who was the culprit was kind of obvious. If not the actual culprit, I knew the person was at minimum a co-conspirator.

I would have liked more of Dillon and Pippa's relationship. Dillon had Dom moments, but he didn't seem to follow through with them. Pippa basically did whatever she wanted.

This book was good. I just felt it lacked the same intensity, danger, and suspense as some of the previous books. Admittedly there were moments, but I didn't get that kind of continuous level of tension that I have become used to getting. I did miss reading more about some of the other Cerberus/Club Southside guys.

I also liked Seth and Miley. I think in terms of strength, intensity, and being an alpha sub, Miley stole the show from Pippa. I'm looking forward to her book. I would give this book 3.5 stars.

What can I say? I love Delta James stories!!

I’ve been reading Club Southside as they’ve been coming out. The common elements here, are the setting, Club Southside, a BDSM club in Chicago and home to Cerberus, the private security company upstairs. Not only are the operatives highly skilled & deadly if needed, they are gorgeous Alphas, too. And the ladies are feisty, independent, strong. The chemistry is hot, and none of them succumb easily. That’s just how Delta writes’em.

That said, each threat, each journey, is unique. You KNOW there will be a HEA, but how? How close will the H/h come to disaster? How devious is the villain? How much snark, how much steam along the way? THAT’S what keeps me coming back.

Matt Dillon (yup, that’s his name!) is a new operative. He’s been assigned to protect Piper, the Mermaid Comic, kid sister to Seth, (who NEEDS his story BTW 😉😉!) Dillon’s got his work cut out for him: protect wild child Piper, run interference with big brother, Seth, stop the villain, and, oh yeah, convince Piper she’s his.

Lots of fun!

I love all the books in this series so far, but this one comes a close second to my favorite, The Scoundrel, which was the first in the series. Dillon may be a rookie in the Cerberus team, but he’s just as much an alpha as the members we’ve met to date. One look at Pippa and it’s all she wrote. Once again though, Pippa is no pushover and may be the most difficult to handle yet, though we all know Dillon is the man for the job. There’s much more give and take in Pippa and Dillon’s relationship, though it’s not all smooth sailing. I wondered how long Dillon would put up with Pippa’s attitude, but ultimately the threat of discipline remained just a tease. In terms of the reason for Pippa needing protection, there was no real surprise there, but the hint of danger gave the whole plot a bit of an edge. The epilogue was a bit confusing and jumped to something completely different, I didn’t understand what was going on and would have preferred more on what happened to Pippa and Dillon.

Highly Recommended Read!

If you ever want to read a book that gives you a sizzling, steamy romance with sexy alpha Dom’s then this series from Delta James is a must! Delta takes a storyline and gives you action, suspense with a hot romance, wonderful characters and HEA to make you swoon.

A feel good emotional read with great characters, Dillon had been attracted to Pippa before he knew she was his best friends little sister, he loved her curves and personality but first his first priority was to protect her!

I loved how Dillon gave Pippa room to breathe and how tender and understanding he was with her but he wouldn’t put up with her tantrums. He gave her the courage to accept who she was and overcome her past all the while trying to keep her safe from danger.

Another great addition to the series which just keeps getting better!

Absolutely loved Dillion and Pippa’s story. Pippa is Seth’s younger sister and a very successful comic. When a stalker comes after her, Seth asks Dillion to step in and help. Their attraction to each other is instantaneous . How they work through their own feeling and dealing with the unknown stalker makes for a great fast paced, page turning read!.

This book was just as exciting and entertaining to read as the rest of this series. There wasn't very much of the D/s dynamic, though, like I have come to expect. That being the case, I felt like part of Dillon and Pippa's relationship was missing, as well as scenes that were deleted from the entirety of the book.

The Cerberus team comes through again, I loved Pippa and Dillon and the story was interesting. Pippa is an alpha sub and Dillon likes that about her and is prepared to take on her brother Seth if needs be to be with her. We learn more about their background through Pippa’s confession to Dillon but the stalker remains unknown until the end. I can’t wait for Miley’s story.

Absolutely loved Pippa and Dillon. Both characters are major alphas, even though Dillon is the Dom and Pippa is the sub. The storyline is well thoughout, the dialogue is perfect and sometimes downright hilarious. This is a great addition to the Club Southside series and one that is definitely worth reading. The only problem is, I can’t give it a higher rating than a 5 because this story definitely qualifies.

3.75stars--THE ROOKIE is the fourth instalment in Delta James’ contemporary, adult CLUB SOUTHSIDE erotic, BDSM, romance series focusing on the men and women who work for Cerberus Security. This is former Chicago Detective and Dom Matt Dillon, and comedienne Pippa Newcomb. THE ROOKIE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Pippa is the sister of Cerberus Security specialist Seth Newcomb

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Dillon and Pippa) THE ROOKIE focuses on the protection of comedienne Pippa Newcomb. Pippa Newcomb has a stalker, and the attacks are becoming more personal and dangerous. In an effort to protect his sister without involving the police or himself, Pippa’s brother Seth offers former Chicago Detective Matt Dillon the ‘opportunity’ to keep an eye on our story line heroine but from the outset, nothing goes according to plan. An attack against Pippa’s manager Gretchen Miller, and the regular appearance of threatening notes brings with it the possibility of someone close, who is taking aim at our story line heroine.

The world building focuses on the building relationship between Dillon and Pippa, as Dillon struggles to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love. Pippa is determined to push Dillon and the Cerberus crew out of her life but as the threats become more dangerous, Dillon will blame himself for crossing the line with our story line heroine.

The secondary and supporting characters are energetic and dynamic. We are reintroduced to Pippa’s brother Seth Newcomb, as well as Pippa’s manager Gretchen, assistant Marty Simpson, former US soldier turned B&B owner Jack MacNair; and fellow comic Kimberly.

THE ROOKIE is a story of betrayal and vengeance, jealousy and obsession, family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is intriguing and entertaining; the romance is provocative; the characters are determined and desperate.

I had high hopes for the book, but unfortunately, I found it difficult to get through the beginning, mainly due to the female lead. Despite being a supposed comedian, her jokes came off as mean and lecturing, which made her unlikable. Additionally, she's portrayed as an 'alpha sub', but in reality, she's an entitled brat who refuses to listen, even when her life is at risk. She's also quite judgmental, which is hypocritical given that she doesn't want people to judge her. Her selfish and stubborn behavior endangers herself and others, making me wonder why the male lead, Dillion, even bothered with her. I spent half the book wanting to shake some sense into her. Towards the end, her character improved slightly, but I couldn't help but wait for another diva fit to occur.

On the other hand, Dillion was a fantastic male lead, and I wish he didn't have to put up with Pippa so much. I found him quite intriguing, and I wish the book delved more into why he left ranching and whether he still had connections to his family. I also hope to see more of Seth, Pippa's brother, in the future, as he's one of my favorite non-lead characters in the series.

While everything else was good, the action scenes didn't quite live up to the writer's previous books in the series. I also didn't appreciate how harsh the female lead was, and how she failed to take things seriously, particularly when her life was at risk. Although her behavior could have been forgiven if she had learned her lesson and acknowledged her mistakes, she continued to act inappropriately, making excuses based on her past. Overall, this book wasn't the best in the series, and the steamy scenes were a bit tame. Nonetheless, I'm excited to read Miley's story and won't be rereading this book anytime soon.

Wonderful fourth addition to the previous series of books, great characters and solid story

This story is based around the BDSM club that is in Baker Street in London, this is an American version of that also includes the Cerberus offices which specialise in dealing with law and order, taking on special contracts and official law and order jobs they are best suited for.

It seems that there is a threat to one of the tech teams sisters who has a stalker that has been threatening her and who is becoming significantly bolder by the moment and the police officer that has been trying to Pippa Newcomb safe, his name is Matthew Dillon.

As Pippa and Dillon along with the team they trust around them is very aware of the growing risk to her safety and it is apparent that the stalker is most definitely becoming more and more bold. It is a suspicion that possibly the threats may actually have been being issued by perhaps someone far closer to home and then when one of her friends is attacked Dillon insists that Pippa be locked down in an effort to keep her safe.

I guarantee that as you imagine it is without a doubt a fact that once you begin reading this wonderful story and you will find that once you begin reading this story you will find it impossible to put this book down till you complete it and discover the outcome and the mystery behind this wonderful book.

I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

This was an effortless read by Ms. James, who painted vivid scenes so that it was easy to believe that you were part of the world of the characters and feel their emotions, good and bad. I found it simple to solve the pieces of the puzzle and identify who was to blame for the threats toward Pippa. The story was enticing, but I would have liked more D/S and punishment scenes. It was interesting to see how Pippa and Dillon’s relationship developed in the middle of danger.

Dillon was the newest member of the Cerberus Southside Club after the Chicago police made him a scapegoat. His first job was to protect Pippa, The Mermaid Comic and sister of Seth, a fellow member of Club Southside. Pippa was more than a job for
Dillon and I loved how he confronted Seth and convinced him that Pippa belonged
to him.

Pippa was a challenge, but Dillon was the right man to keep her safe. Not that she made it easy for him. Pippa was a plus-sized comic with sass who deflected comments with the with the flick of her hand. I admired her optimism, but it was a front to hide her true feelings and vulnerability. She used humor as a shield against being hurt, but Dillon was able to shatter the armor she hid behind.

I enjoyed this book, but it didn't blow me away. There were no BDSM scenes to speak of like I have come to expect from this author. I did like Pippa's character and the chemistry between Dillon and Pippa. The real danger did not happen until the end of the book but I enjoyed solving the puzzle. The characters were likable and believable.

After being the fall guy for Chicago PD of what occurred in the 1st book of the Club Southside Series. Dillion has been hired by Cerberus and is now a Rookie.

Before the official offer Seth has a favor to ask of him. Seth is worried about his sisters safety. His sister is Pippa who is The Mermaid Comic who’s growing quickly in fame. With her fame has come some written threats. So Seth being the big brother wants Dillion to infiltrate her team to assess if the threat is real.

Apparently Seth chose the right man since he knows who she is and would love to get closer to her in more ways that one.

Pippa is a Diva on stage and a women who is comfortable in her own skin. She can hold her own against any situation without any control of her mouth. Smart, saucy and a handful.

Dillion needs to assert himself using his D’s persona with Pippa, who is testing and trying him and he pushes back to takes control.

This story is a fast read and is entertaining from one page to the next. There’s a strong storyline with mystery, suspense, and danger. Then there’s an underlying story where a relationship will allow Pippa to feel secure and cared for, for the first time in her life. Lastly is the issue of Seth and Dillion who are co-workers, friends and D’s at Club Southside. Will Dillion and Pippa survive all the issues in their path.

Highly recommend the entire series, but each book can be read as a standalone.

Happy Reading📖🌻

I fell in love with Dillon in The Scoundrel and am so happy he finally got his story! He certainly went through the wringer to land on his feet with Cerberus, and glad to see Seth put him to use right away. Pippa's name was so appropriate. She was a spitfire with a wicked sense of humor. She needed someone with a strong backbone to put up with her antics, keep her in line, and still keep her safe. That last issue proved to be a bit of a wild card factor given the tenacity of her stalker.

While Dillon and Pippa got closer personally, they were still no closer to the stalker's identity. They were out there gunning for Pippa, and those she cared for. Would these two be able to apprehend the stalker in time (before something major happened)? Would their "cover" relationship blossom into reality once the threat was removed? Lots of unknowns as these two race across the US trying to stay one step ahead.

This book was slightly different from the previous Club Southside series in that Dillon was the only operative throughout most of the book. There wasn't the high level of team interaction we previously see. That isn't detracting from this story. It was a wonderful read, just a little different from its predecessors. There's a bit more "team focus" in The Keeper if you're reading in order and that's of interest to you. Not as heavy as The Scoundrel, but more than The Rookie. I do love this series!!

'The Rookie' is the fourth book in Delta James' "Club Southside" series and this one is just what the blurb suggested it is. "A fast-paced romantic suspense series of interconnected standalone books that will leave you on the edge of your seat." You see, Dillon comes from a family of Police Officers. He moved to Chicago and became one of the youngest detectives on the force. While working on a case, he was instrumental in helping the Cerberus group with this client. That put a target on his back when Cerberus solved the case and left the CPD with an egg on their face. Unfortunately, Dillon became the fall guy and was being thrown under the bus. He could either leave the force and collect full retirement benefits or be fired and lose everything, including his reputation. Being a proud man, Dillon walked away from the PD and retirement. Fortunately for him, Cerberus had offered him a position within the organization but before he could be officially hired he was offered a job protecting the younger sister of their operatives. It's a whodunnit with a kinky twist when a Cerberus rookie. Who has been tagged with the nickname Dudley Do-Right, is in charge of protecting the very successful Mermaid Comic. Delta James never ceases to amaze me with her characters who are so perfectly flawed they become relatable and her storylines that captured my emotions and imagination. What a great read!

This was a steamy romantic suspense.

This is a fantastically suspenseful story. Great characters. Highly recommend! Must read!

Pippa Newcomb is the Mermaid Comic. She is curvy, sassy, intelligent and Seth's younger sister. While on her latest your weird things have been happening and she has received threatening notes. She is also part of the BDSM lifestyle and is an alpha sub.

Matt Dillon was recently fired from being a detective on the Chicago police department. Because he worked with the Cerberus group to solve a stalking/murder case perpetrated by his former partner, the department set him up as the fall guy. He is also a Dom.

After leaving the station Dillon headed to Elmo's Diner where he found his friend Seth waiting for him. Seth asked him to get hired onto Pippa's tour to keep an eye on her and make sure she is safe. He also let him know King and Fitzwallance wanted to offer him a job working for Cerberus. Before Dillon could enact the plan, Pippa's manager Gretchen was beaten up outside her latest tour stop in Chicago. Dillon became the lead in her protection detail and the case. Pippa suspends the tour. Dillon meets her at the Ritz where she tells him her plan to draw out the stalker. He takes over and as part of the plan they form a D/s relationship before resuming the tour. At the next tour stop she is attacked and Dillon saved her.

This is book four in The Club Southside series and it is Dillon and Pippa’s story. Dillon is a detective and then something happens and the higher up needs a scapegoat and that is where Dillon comes in but he is not going to go quietly so they take his job, gun and badge and that is when he ends up working for Cerberus Group where his first assignment is to protect his best friend Seth’s sister Pippa who has a stalker. Pippa has been body shamed her whole life because of her size so she hits back by being a comedian which has made her well liked, popular and successful but someone isn’t happy and is stalking her and her crew and that is when Dillon arrives to protect her and find out who is doing this and why. When Dillon and Pippa meet things get a bit out of hand but the more time that they spend together the stronger and more intense there chemistry grows and feelings start to get involved but danger is coming and it is closer than they no but will Dillon be able to eliminate the threat before it is too late. This book takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, laughs, danger, drama, suspense, fear and love that will have you on the edge of your seat while turning the pages and I couldn’t put it down as it kept my attention right from the first page until the last as it was so addictive. I definitely recommend you read this book and you will not be disappointed.

OMG! Wow, I was absolutely captivated when I started to read this book, as soon as I started I was hooked I have read all the Special Op's Cerberus up to date and now including this one and "O boy" this book is just as good as the rest. This story keeps you guessing until the end when it unfolds. The characters Pippa, Matthew Dillon (Dillon), Pippa is a comedian and was on tour when she was getting these hate mail or death threats. Dillon is a Dom was sacked from the police force then he received a text to meet Seth. Seth is Pippa's brother and works for Cerberus based above, Club Southside, he ended up employing Dillon to look after his sister. Gretchen was her manager and best friend and was bashed and put in hospital, while Marty done everything else to help Gretchen so things ran smoothly, and Kimberly she is the show that goes on before Pippa. When Pippa couldn't relax Dillon done something he shouldn't have done and couldn't stop it from happening he really liked her and all her curves but he was there to protect her and cannot do it properly if he is lusting after her all the time, or is it love.

Deterctive Matt Dillion was the chosen scapegoat for the Chicago Police Department's major screw-ups on the Samantha Butler stalker case where he and Cerberus saved the day and her life. He knows he will be relieved of duty when he refuses their offer of resigning with a full pension and twenty-year benefits, but he will not let them of the hook for their mistakes. Being offered a job at Cerberus is great, but Seth Newcomb wants him to guard his sister, Pippa, whether or not he accepts a Cerberus position. Pippa, stage name the Mermaid Comic, has been receiving threatening messages and Seth is worried about her. Matt doesn't tell him that he is a fan of Pippa's and admires her curvy body - brothers don't appreciate such comments about their kid sisters.

Matt and Pippa don't immediately hit it off. Though she likes to play as a submissive at the clubs she and her manager Gretchen visit, she has not embraced the lifestyle. Matt is pure Dom and is not going to let her get away with her bratty ways. When he realizes he has fallen for her, he is worried it will interfere with his protection duties. Will he be able to keep her safe when the unsub ups their game?

As we saw in the previous book, Det. Matt Dillon did end up being the scapegoat for what had happened and because he helped the people in the Chicago chapter of Cerberus. So, he is offered a probationary job, after he does a favor for Seth. Seth knows that something is going on with his sister, Pippa. As she is the Mermaid comic. Pippa is awesome as is her manager, Gretchen. Near the end of a show, Gretchen is attacked and they take her to the hospital by ambulance. Gretchen and Marty, Pippa’s assistant have been keeping threats from Pippa. So Dillon arrives and after many arguments, he begins to teach Pippa how to properly do things while under the watchful eye of a bodyguard. I found it all very interesting and their banter to be hilarious. You can practically see the steam rising off of both of them while reading. There are a few drinks listed that I would love the recipes for. After finding out the culprit and the why, I blew my top and ranted at least for twenty minutes. BDSM in the club portion of Cerberus is weird but fascinating. Because I’m a firm believer of ‘to each their own as long as there is consent’. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
