It’s been two glorious years since the Underworld unleashed its nightmares on Donna Deangelo. Happily married, raising a beautiful daughter, and enjoying time with her best friend Mo, Donna is finally living the life she’s always dreamed of - free from soul-stealing, kidnapping, and murder. That all changes when Donna, on her way to the store for ground beef and spaghetti noodles, crashes her Mustang straight into the Underworld’s most dangerous and vengeful deity. And far from desiring an apology, this merciless goddess expects blood. Now dinner’s on the back burner, the planet’s on a collision course with Chaos, and the only way out is down.
Final Hour of the Hunter is book three in the Midnight Hunter trilogy.
Wow where to I start this book was amazing I love the Midnight Hunter Trilogy and I'm so happy you decided to writing a fourth book.(ok on to my review) In this book Donna get to meet her new underworld nightmare her name is Ursula the Goddess of Chaos.Yup you heard right this book is full of action, suspense and a lot of OMG!!moments.People start acting crazy, friend are being taken, one will betray them.Read the Final Hour of the Hunter to find out that else Donna and her friends will have to survive. Then ending is shocking.
Today I finished Final Hour of the Hunter by Bonnie Bernard. This is the third book of The Midnight Hunter Trilogy. Like the first two, I was drawn in almost immediately.
We start out with Donna living a somewhat normal existence for the next two years after the battle from the last book. However, it was pretty short-lived from where we pick up the story. One day, on the way to the grocery store, she accidentally runs over/through Ursula, the goddess of chaos. Naturally, the goddess was a bit ticked off, and left Donna with a threat to end her world as she knows it. In typical Donna fashion, she avoids telling her husband, Hunter, about it. She simply wanted the peace she had been enjoying for the last couple of years to stick around a while longer.
Soon, we meet up with Cassie, the Prophecy Holder. She has continued with her job of translating the Underworld Prophecy that had been left by the gods. We soon learn that she is pregnant with Howie’s twins, which makes them a vampire/demon/human hybrid. Similarly to Donna’s daughter Lucinda, we later learn that these twins have their own place in the prophecy.
Before long, the goddess of chaos begins to fulfill her promise, with the help of The Trickster, and people close to Donna start to go missing. Donna, Hunter, and their vampire/demon/human family set out to defeat the goddess, and bring their loved ones back. Naturally, they run across several obstacles along the way, including a few that really just had me stunned into speechlessness, which is an incredibly rare occurrence for me.
As I said in both of my previous reviews for Bonnie Bernard, she knows her characters. She paints amazingly colorful and entertaining characters that really make this book (and the entire series) stand out. This is definitely something that consistently stands out for her, and something I admire about her.
This story is incredibly fast-paced and draws you in from the beginning. It seems something was always happening. Although, Howie is certainly not one to allow room for any boredom.
One of the things I loved most about this series as a whole was the reminder that even though things are frequently labelled good or bad, that doesn’t necessarily mean they are. It was more true to life. In most stories, vampires and demons are bad. In those same stories gods/goddesses and humans are good. In this story, the author made sure to clarify that things aren’t quite so black and white. There’s always a lot of grey area. One of my favorite parts of this story was near the end when a father told his daughter (leaving names out to avoid spoilers) that she would find the man she’d be with and have a child with, and he’d be evil. Seeing this male character through much of the book, I couldn’t help but laugh to myself and think, “Well, he’s not evil per se … He’s more … chaotic neutral.” I love that the author made sure that her characters were more colorful and complicated than simply good or evil. It definitely makes the read more intriguing.
I got this book for free from the author herself, to give an honest review.
Final Hour of the Hunter is at the moment I am asumming to be the last in this trilogy. I do hope the author makes another book that has the characters that have grown up and the old characters that have now important jobs.
This book once again had me from the first page. After I read the second book I was so ready to get into this book. Final Hour of the Hunter takes place 2 years after the second book, Lucinda is still growing up faster than normal children because she has inherited her father's dark gift of being a vampire. Donna is enjoying her life now since there is nothing bad going on. Cassie, and Howie are together. Everything is good until, one day Donna drives out to get dinner from the store and she crashes into something. She gets out to inspect, and there is nothing there, but when she gets back into her car a woman is in the back with her hellhounds. Her name is Ursula she is now the next problem for Donna and her family and friends to deal with. Just when everything was going great. Mortals or humans can not see Ursula. From the time she meets Ursula everything starts going down hill, her friends start disappearing, the human world has gone crazy and has the disease. No one is safe to trust. I was sad that there was an ending to this book lol, everything was flowing so perfectly. If you are looking to read about more kicking butt, and the paranormal then please give this a read! I know you will not be disappointed.
Out of this whole book I have to say my favorite little part or saying was this paragraph. "Howie clenched the latest cigarette between his teeth and turned to face Ian. "Stupid human, do you see the sign in the door that reads Howie's Gun Shop?" Ian nodded begrudgingly. "Three guesses who I am." "A Crazy mother f----?" All I could do was laugh and laugh. If you have not read the other two books I suggest you do it. Howie is trip all on his own. And is a great character that Bonnie wrote. I truly enjoyed reading about the children growing up and seeing the marriage of an immortal and a vampire, and getting little surprises along the way.
My review of Final Hour of the Hunter by Bonnie Bernard
5*****stars
This book was provided free by the author in exchange for honest literary review!
So for the virginal human Donna, the last two years have been more than peaceful since distroying those pesky Underworld characters. Lucinda is now well over two and doing well. Everything is finally going Donna's way and she and her soulmate are going to live happily ever after right? WRONG AGAIN!!!! Unfortunately those pesky Underworld creatures aren't going to be defeated that easy. First there's a strange woman with white hair and a pair of hellhounds chasing her around, and no other mortal can see her but Donna. Then there's a purple eyed bird..... yeah you get my picture. This time it's all on Donna to solve the riddles and save us. Ok I rarely rant and rave about a novel but I am going all out here. This series improved by leaps and bounds with each novel....and the first one was good. The plot is action packed without being hard to follow. Theres comedy, romance, peril, heartbreak, and kick buttowski all in one. The characters are likeable. For me, i love the fact Donna acts human. She's not portrayed as a perfect goddess type on legs...she's just an average young lady who's randomly awkward, clumsy, and slow to catch on which makes her very loveable and relatable. This goes on my must read ASAP list for anyone who hasn't .....you by far won't be disappointed!!!!!!
Once again I so want to thank the amazing Bonnie Bernard for giving me the wonderful opportunity to read and review the out of the world Trilogy of The Midnight Hunter. I just can’t say enough about all three of the books included in it. Midnight hunter floored me, and then the Dawn of the Hunter had me flipping through the pages just as fast as I could so I could find out what was happening next in the chapter that I was reading, and then there’s Final Hour of the Hunter, and OH MY GOODNESS now talk about a huge page turner. Well this is it…..
I have mixed emotions on doing this review for Final Hour not for bad reasons, don’t get me wrong on that, but simply because that I know that this is at this time the FINAL book in my hands for this spectacular series. (Or is it?) So if it seems that if I have made this review shorter than the others it’s only because I’m sad knowing that I have to wait for book #4 to come out, yes I said book #4!!!! Bonnie has decided to grace us, the grieving souls of this series with another book. CAN I HAVE A BIG WOOT WOOT???? Ok now onto the review.
It’s been two glorious years since the Underworld unleashed it’s nightmares on Donna Deangelo. Happily married, raising a beautiful daughter, and enjoying time with her crazy off the wall friend Mo. Donna is finally living the life she’s always dreamed of – free from soul stealing, kidnapping, and murder. Everything changes when Donna innocently, on her way to the store, crashes her mustang straight into the Underworlds most dangerous and vengeful deity. (This can’t be good, oh sh*t) And far from desiring an apology, the merciless goddess expects BLOOD. (How dare she, just go find it else where if you don’t mind!) Now the planets on a collision course with Chaos, and the only way out is down.
Final Hour of the Hunter was and is an amazing, action packed, suspense filled book three of The Midnight Hunter Trilogy by the dynamic little firecracker Bonnie Bernard. (Bonnie, I bow down to you and genius brain of yours.) I still feel like I want to cry. I don’t want to say goodbye to the characters that I have grown to love. I loved this book, cherish it so much that although I knew I wanted to know the ending of it, I found myself TRYING without success I might add to not finish it as fast as the others. I refused to acknowledge that it was coming to an end. PRAISE, PRAISE to book #3, Final Hour of the Hunter Bonnie you’ve out did yourself with this one. I loved 1&2 but I hold this one as the most cherished thus far in the series.
As I was reading, I became so attached to the storyline that when the betrayal of one of my favorite vampires happened, I found myself saying “Oh no, that did not just happen”, then I got angry is the good way to put it or maybe disappointed at Donna when the silly women got dang butterflies in her stomach, yes I just said butterflies!! Over some other guy not HER hunter. Come on, this is Donna who is married to the gorgeous, hot adoring warrior of a husband, Hunter. (How could she???) Confusion as to who goes missing by the bad guys, falling in love with the most unlikely characters- the Evil Howie himself. He’s so cute in a round about way that it’s hard not to get attached to him. (He reminds me of a big soft marshmallow in a creepiest kind of way) Howie is the likeable kind of demon that you can laugh at and yes scream at too as you want to strangle him for some of the stuff he pulls and does.
My suggestion to all the readers out there is to HURRY and get this phenomenal series, you will not regret it one bit. And you will find yourself hiding it in your special prize bookshelf for safe keeping, and so no one will dare to take it out and read it. Nope keep your hands off my beautiful Midnight Hunter Trilogy. Go get your own!!! But I may read to you if you are real nice to me….
THANK YOU AGAIN BONNIE BERNARD FOR THIS AMAZING TRILOGY, now get cracking on book #4 and get it finished so we don’t have to wait to long!!!! (Sorry I couldn’t resist)
I love this book, Howie really does it for me, he is just so snarky and the one liners he comes out with a simply hilarious. I love his interactions with the still virginal human and especially the bull headed human, who most of the rest of us know as Donna and Cassie. He is definitely my favourite character in the series, being so abrupt and saying exactly what he thinks no matter who he is talking to, is very refreshing and sometimes quite amusing. Ok enough Howie praise! Donna takes on a job at the gun shop run by Kyle and Uncle Clarke, to try and figure out where their friends have been taken to. With Samee, Cassie and even Mo going missing throughout the book, Donna and Hunter are beside themselves trying to locate their friends, and only close to the end do we find out the truth about the importance of some of these people to the whole scheme of things in keeping balance in the underworld on the physical plane. I really like where this book went and I love that I never in my wildest dreams would have guessed where the mischief in chaos was being created from, random shootings and fights and the almost obsessive need for everyone to arm themselves against the uprising. Chaos pretty much reigns terror down on the "stupid humans" every time she appears, and Donna’s main goal is to track down Chaos’ sidekick who is stirring things up in the mortal realm and creating disruption everywhere to make her stronger. I kind of guessed who the culprit was but, had my doubts when some very unexpected sources surprised me along the way, especially when Donna decided to save the world on her own and got captured at the back of The Darkside, and then all sorts of interesting things unfolded. I was very happy with the way the book ended and am pleased to know there is a spin off series, as I felt the ending allowed for that and it would seem that Jonathon is not really his father’s son, when it comes to personality anyway. I was sad for Faith but excited by the outcome of the Magickal Mysteries meeting. There is a whole new story waiting to be born. Thank you so much Bonnie Bernard for allowing me to read your books in return for an honest review. I have enjoyed this series very much and can't wait to read more of your stories.
I was given a e-copy in exchange for my honest review, but would have gladly purchased a copy. The author hasn't failed me yet at keeping me in a trance with her writing and I am sure she never will.
Thing have changed for Donna and the gang since the last book. Life has been normal, well as normal as it can be with friends and family like Donna's. But life can't stay a walk in the park forever, unless the park is full of crazy people with weapons and a attitude from hell. Donna becomes cursed by chaos and chaos by any other name is, well.....a B***H! Donna has also grown and has learned to take care of things herself. She decides to take this situation in her own hands and refuses to bow down to chaos. Which basically means she has thrown everyone to the wolves, are in the situation, the hellhounds. People go missing, friends become enemies, and enemies become alliances in a blink of an eye. It is up to Donna to regain order to the hell created on earth. Everyone has to play the game of life, but no one knows which team each are playing on. There can only be one winner, but who will be on the winning side that survives complete chaos?
Loved the book!!! Unfortunately, it is the last book in the trilogy. I could read about the crazy and wild characters forever, but all good things must come to an end at some point. I hear rumor that there will be a spin off and I can hardly wait. As long as she keeps writing, I will continue to read whatever she creates. An author worth following!!!
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
Again as with the Author's other books, I could not put this book down until I finished it! Yes in one sitting! At this point in the story the characters are old friends to the reader, and you are transported to the house on Autumn Street as soon as you turn the first page. Your life is no longer your own but that of Donna, and who knows where that will lead you to right?
Once again Donna is living on the edge of the Underworld balancing her vampire husband Hunter, who is on edge and ready for a battle. Lucinda, who should be 3 years old is now a teenager due to her vampire blood and is moody, sulky and hitting puberty fast! And a new job... Which would be more than any woman can handle, but throw in the rest of the gang whether vampire, demon, human or god... and there is sure to be major Chaos.. or should we say Goddess of Chaos? The Author does not disappoint in how she continues this story to its finale. Friends go missing, friends turn into enemies, wives from the past show up... the reader is left feeling like the world is spinning and there really is something going on with everyone. Guns, violence, crime it is almost like everyone is under a mind control...and only Donna can sort it out by taking charge and becoming the Warrior she was always meant to be.
With plenty of romance, mystery, drama and of course divine intervention, you will not be disappointed in reading this collection. The Best part is the Author leaves it open for maybe a spin off??? We can only wait and hope!
This is the best book of the series by far. The writing flows better, there is more emotion, feeling... everything! I was going to say that author Bonnie Bernard saved the best of herself for the last book, however, I’ve read there will be another book in this series. So I can’t wait to see how that one will read.
Once again we’re reunited with characters we’ve already grown to love. Their stories keep you gripped to pages, anxiously waiting to find out what happens next. There are twists and shock betrayals in this book which I personally didn’t see coming, so beware, you’re in for a treat and shock.
Bonnie Bernard has written a great story here. Each book keeping the reader wanting to know what direction the story will go next, and surprising us every step of the way.
I hope there will be a fourth book in this series and that it isn’t just a rumour.
Can I also say thank you to the author for submitting this book to me for an honest review.
I had mixed feelings about the end of this trilogy. I was happy to find out how all of the pieces tied tied together and how the main story arcs resolved themselves, but I was sad to see it end. I really enjoyed watching how having children changed the lives of all of the characters. In some ways, I had difficulty with the ending. It almost felt that things were too neatly tied up in a pretty bow (not that I am saying everything was happy, happy), but then I realized, I would have been more upset if they weren't. I did love the last bit of the epilogue. I am hoping it means what I think it means :).
If you have not read the first two books in this trilogy, you could probably read this book and get something out of it, but the first two books are really part of the overall story arc, so it I would advise starting with the first book.
Book 3 (and last) in the series. I don't know where to start. Its got surprises, returning characters that you love, hate and love to hate. Its got new characters, a story line that grabs you and never lets go. And everyone's favorite demon is back and falls right in to the old pattern we love. This time, Donna has to deal with another foe, and how to save the world from her. But this time, there is a set of twins we get to meet, whom this particular god seems to want something from. But will Donna give in, or will she fight? You will definitely fall in love with this series. I would love to see more with some of these characters, and can't wait to read more from this amazing author!! 5 stars all the way!!
This is the third book in the Midnight Hunter Trilogy.
The book starts a couple of years after Dawn of the Hunter ended and it seems that life is never going to go smoothly for Donna, her friends and family, and with the influence of Chaos, things are on a completely different playing field.
The descriptions and the characters come to life, and you don’t need to try for your imagination to bring the story to life. The book is fast paced, and though I had guessed one of the twists there are many more that surprised me keeping me hooked right up until the end.
This book will leave you wanting more, and wish the trilogy wasn’t at an end.
~WaAr~ 10+*s. I recieved a paperback copy of this book directly from the author in return for an honest review. WOW…What an absolutely awesome ride this was!! I enjoyed every minute of it, from stupid humans, to goddess toes, to Mr. Howie Evil himself!! This book is jammed pack full of humor, action, mystery, and did I mention humor. This book just like the rest of the trilogy is well written and very fast paced. This is a MUST read 18+ that will make you feel like you are apart of the world of Bonnie Bernard!! Thank you so much Author Bonnie Bernard for this intriguing and fun world that you created!! If you haven't read this trilogy, then what are you waiting for, stupid human?
this is the 3rd book about Dawn, hunter and the others the children are growing up fast and have many changes in there live It about the God of Chaos and what she does to the world/underworld. there is kidnapping, sex on the washing machine when on spin speed, funny part about the dog having his manhood taken away, what Hunter said about it and it has an amazing end I finished this book at 2am and loved every bit well done Bonnie i will miss reading about these guys
This book is just as great as the first 2 & I hear that even though this was originally planned as the last book in this series the author has decided to give us more & I can hardly wait!!!!!!
Donna, Hunter and all their friends have been enjoying a peaceful two years since the end of the Underworld war. That all changes when Ursula, a vengeful goddess of Chaos shows up making demands. Donna can either provide a lock of hair from each of the twins, or those she loves will start disappearing. Of course, she refuses, Josh and Jaz are the children of two of her best friends.
New characters have come out to play; the Trickster (who stole the original book of prophecy from Raoul and Frederick), Ursula, goddess of Chaos, and Mara (Somebody has a wife they thought had died.). Once again, not everyone is who they seem to be. Alicia (goddess of perfect female beauty) is back and sticking her cute nose in where it doesn't belong, at least according to the rules. But hey, what's a little rule bending if no one else finds out, right?
One by one, people important to Donna start disappearing, each one a little closer to home. Cassie is the first one to go missing and Howie and the kids aren't one bit happy. Bernard has really amped up the volume for the final book in the trilogy. In addition to people going missing, someone is messing with the minds of ordinary humans. Thanks to Ursula, the whole town has just gotten a lot crazier, more paranoid and she's not done yet.
This is the best book of the trilogy with some surprises at the end. I also hope that the ending was just a taste of another trilogy to come. If so, I'm definitely going to pick it up. There were a few errors, but overall, I enjoyed the book enough that I didn't want to see it end. I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is available from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Smashwords.
"Final Hour of the Hunter" by Bonnie Bernard is a great ending to a very lively and colourful series. The underworld, full of demons, vampires and gods once more touches upon Donna's life, this time in the form of Ursula, the demanding and revengeful goddess of Chaos. After a car accident between Donna and Ursula the seed for trouble is planted. First however Cassie, the prophecy holding Vampire, has trouble with her demon boyfriend Howie and gives birth to his twins. As Cassie keeps translating the text of the prophecy Ursula and her helpers arrive on the scene and challenge our group of friends; people disappear and the predicted big battle is on its way. Bernard has done it again, with repeat performances by my favourite characters, such as Howie, and a set of exciting new ones this book is a firework of sparks and action while also looking a little deeper at the inside of our heroes. This series is pleasantly different in that the lines between good and evil blur. The humans, particularly Donna, has her faults and is not the innocent heroine fighting with vampires who are after blood alone. It rather so happens that some characters are vampires and have issues such as sun exposure to deal with, but they are not pure evil. Neither is Howie Evil. Well, maybe some characters are evil but the book is not full of overused stereotypes, it sparks with originality and entertainment. The end ties everything up together nicely. It is sad to see the trilogy come to an end but if this series is anything to go by I am sure Bernard has a lot more tricks up her sleeves for a new series. Great entertainment.
This is the third and final book in the Midnight Hunter Trilogy. I loved it!
Donna Deangelo is a fantastic character. Not only is she a wife to a vampire, she is a loving mother to a beautiful baby girl. You would think that she deserves her happiness after all she's been through, but when she accidentally (or was it?) crashes her car into the Goddess of Chaos, all hell breaks loose.
I loved this series from the first page, so I have been eagerly wanting to read this book for a while now. I'm just sorry it took me so long to get to it. The story continues two years after the end of the second book finished. I was quickly thrown back into the world of vampires, demons and goddesses. The story was imaginative and fast paced. I struggled to put it down! In fact, I read it in one sitting! I got to revisit some old characters, but I also met some new ones. Especially Lucinda (Donna and Hunter's daughter - half human/half vampire) and Jasmine and Joshua (Cassandra and Howie's twins - part human/demon/vampire). These characters are special in more ways than one. There is a prophesy to be solved, and the Underworld and Earth to save. This book has a MAJOR surprise right at the end. I was completely thrown! Never mind that this is the final book - I WANT MORE!!
Bonnie Bernard has written an amazing series that has touched me in many different ways. It's made my heart leap at the danger and thump with love, loss, hope and a lot of other emotions. I highly recommend this unique YA Paranormal Romance book (and series) if you love vampires, demons and goddesses. - Lynn Worton
A solid 3.5 stars. This was a decent conclusion to the Hunter series. I'm not upset in any way how things turned out for each character. From the very first chapter of the first book, I had known that Donna would be a Goddess. She had goddess toes, for Jiminy Sakes! The group dynamic in this final book truly threw me for a loop. I was taken aback by all the twists and deceptions and I never saw the ending coming. That is a feat in itself--to not be able to predict the outcome. I'm sorry to let these characters go, they were so fiesty. I do wish that I could've seen more growth between Donna and Hunter's trust in each other, but I'm not gonna sneeze at such a divine ending.
This is the third book in Bonnie Bernard’s great Midnight Hunter trilogy.
Having killed the main villains at the end of book two this novel deals with the power vacuum left behind and the inherent instability of the Underworld. The new villains are great and one of the core themes is that there are many ways to misinterpret a prophecy (a theme which goes to the last line of the book).
The main protagonists are probably like Peter and Susan (of Narnia) never going to feature in a future book but the possibility of a sequel is left teasingly open.
Once more Howie casts his own charm (if that is the right word) over this book.
Great series and a somewhat good ending. Highly suggest this series to anyone who enjoys urban fantasy. I will say the demon/human family is my favorite; they were so funny. The story itself was intense and kept me reading until I was finished...couldn't get my nose out of the book.
However, the only negative is that I don't like lies. I can't stand it when the protagonist lies to the love interest for whatever reason and by the last book, I would hope she would be over that. Not just lies or omissions from her husband but from some of her friends also. It was frustrating that she didn't tell Howie what was requested of her either. But I would definitely recommend this book.
I really like how this book ended though I'm not giving it away. Didn't really see it coming though. Definitely could be the start of another book easily. Howie, of course, is just as cantankerous, and found him as funny as usual. Would recommend getting all three books and reading them one after another. I think they get better and better as you go on.
Please continue the story. I have come to enjoy visiting with these special characters. I want to know of their continued adventures. I will re read these 3 again as I pick up more information with each reading. Keep up the good work.
I was given a copy of this book by the author. I fell in love with this series and did not expect the ending at all!! Im not going to spoil it but I will say everything comes full circle. WaAR
I was not real impressed with this 3rd book. It was really long and took me a while to get through it. I thought it was really slow for about 400 pages.
Like the series any questions ............................................. Are there any more questions ask the writer ...why do I have to do more words
