Sylvia Lapp never would have suspected that when the stranger asked her for directions that her entire life would change. But when he shows up at the market and rescues her from dealing with the Englischer tourists, the wheels are in motion for more than just directions. In balancing her Amish roots with his English past, Sylvia learns more than she bargained for about the sins of worldliness.

I enjoyed the book it is the 2nd book in the series & look forward to reading the 3rd & 4th in this series
Sylvia is a Amish girl (young lady) who falls for Widower Jake who is Englisch it a story of love & if they go Amish or Englisch as Sylvia had not been baptised she won't be shunned or will they not get together due to not being of the same faith
Hills of Wheat is the second amazing story written by Sarah Price in her series Amish of Lancaster. The characters are amazing and I enjoyed learning Sylvia's story. When Sylvia is asked for directions from a stranger she surely doesn't expect an enduring friendship to blossom with an outsider. Sylvia's Amish roots means everything to her and now she is faced with a life changing decision. What she decides may shock you. This story is filled with friendship, love, and faith.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others. I look forward to the next story in this series.
This book was a pleasant surprise for me as I was very annoyed by the main female character. She was so removed from reality in her manner. She was afraid of everything and her family somewhat encouraged it. Her attitude towards English tourists was ridiculous. In her estimation they were all rude, disgusting and nasty. Even the author chose to resort to describing the rudest tourist as a large woman in a tee shirt and shorts. Really? I can't help be wonder if the author's own feelings crept in. In spite of all of that, the story finally unfolded and became quite sweet. I am glad I stayed with it but I don't know if I want to follow this author.
I loved how it didn't just stop at when they get married this book is recommended by me for people who like happy endings. It will give you a lot of confidence and is heart warming.
A Great Story… a continued story from Fields of Corn of the Lapp Family with the younger daughter Sylvia. Finding true love as she and Jake, an Englisher spend more time together.
Hills of Wheat is the second in Sarah Price's The Amish of Lancaster Series and is Sylvia Lapp's story. Sylvia's upbringing has been very sheltered. She's quiet, respectful, and obedient, to the point that she will do unpleasant tasks without murmuring or complaining. That being said, now comes the but, which is this: but, what happens when a stranger comes into the picture? If you think you can totally predict how the story unfolds, pretty sure you'd be wrong, unless you've read other reviews that contain "spoiler" information. First of all, props to the author for dealing with such a "controversial" topic. Yes, this is classified as a Christian romance. However, there are real issues out there that are taboo in the Christian realm, and one such topic is dealt with in the book. Is it a touchy topic? For sure and for certain. Is it something that rarely happens in the Christian realm? No. Unless you are in denial, it happens a lot. Does that make it right? No. And here's the other but. But that doesn't mean we should sweep it all under the rug and not deal with it, as if in doing so it will go away. I was not raised Amish, but my strict upbringing was based on religious beliefs as well as cultural beliefs and customs. I too was raised very sheltered and certain topics were never discussed. Ever. The same was the case with the friends I grew up with and went to church with. I totally get Sylvia. I understand where she's coming from and how she made the decisions that she made. I know many that took Sylvia's path. But, as you read the story, I would ask you to do so with an open mind and an open heart, because this aspect of the story is just one part. The main part is the spiritual journey that takes place from beginning to end. Sarah Price does an excellent job of letting us into Sylvia's thoughts, so that we can better understand why she does what she does. As I said, props to the author for how she dealt with the topic. It's a beautiful and tender story. One of the messages in it is that we should not doubt God's ways. We know God has a plan, but we also know that we often stray from it. So He takes us through good and not so good in order to get us where we need to be, and to fulfill His plan, one of which is that none should perish, and Sarah brings the story full circle with that message. Book quotes: Rely on God. He will not lead you astray.
If she had ever doubted the way of the Lord, she knew that there was one lesson more that she needed. To doubt the Lord was to question His power and her own faith.
Sylvia Lapp is a shy, timid nineteen-year-old Amish woman living on her parents' farm, and Englisher Jake Edwards has just moved to a neighboring farm. He is hoping that by retreating to this farm that's been in his family for generations, he can find peace and forgiveness that he is so desperate to attain, and to release the sorrow and pain that have plagued him since an accident that occured before he left the city, killing his wife. He and Sylvia's paths cross both when Jake stops to ask sylvia for directions, and again when Jake helps her with an English tourist at the produce stand she is managing. As the book progresses, you'll join Jake and Sylvia as they fall in love, as Sylvia begins to slowly come out of her shell, and as she and Jake grapple with the various issues and questions that come up with falling for someone not of your own world. You will also see Jake as he struggles with his own past, and as he comes to the realization that one cannot find true peace apart from the Lord. though this is the second book in the Amish of Lancaster series, and though characters from the previous book, Fields of Corn, are mentioned, this book can be read as a stand-alone; there are no cliff-hangers. I'm giving this book a four out of five stars, mostly due to the occasional editing mistakes in the Kindle edition. If you like gentle Amish romances, you'll definitely enjoy this one! I look forward to reading the third book, Pastures of Faith, soon. I would recommend this book to others. I really enjoyed it.
I liked this book and can't wait to start the next book in the series but the first book "The hills of corn" is my favorite of the 2. this book had a surprising turn of event in it but it was based on real life. I think that is why these books are so good is because they are real and not all glamour.
After reading Fields of Corn, I had to have some more Sarah Price. So, of course I read her second book in the series. I loved Hills of Wheat as much as I loved Fields of Corn. I loved the character development, the continuation of learning about the Lapp family.
I loved the opening chapter. You didnt know the characters names but what you read you knew you wanted to read on to find out more about the characters and to learn more about them. I love the details that Sarah uses when she writes.
loved this book, I'm on a Sarah Price binge.. lol. This book shows you how two cultures can exist together. The Lapp family goes through a lot but love, faith in God binds them together. I love this story line, keep them coming Sarah.
Excellent story. I thoroughly enjoyed this Amish fiction novel. I was, however, distracted by all of the errors on my Kindle ebook. A simple editing could clean it up.
I enjoyed both the first of the series, Fields of Corn, and now this one as well. Very well written and insightful into the Amish culture. It held my interest well.
An enjoyable story with enough characters that you want to read the sequels. There are reasons for only getting four stars. But to provide those I would have to give away too much of the plot.
I love this story so far and can't wait for the next book in the series. I gave it five stars because it's what the author deserves for writing such a great story.
