In MAN transFORMS, Hans Hollein and his team of international designers present various approaches and aspects of design in a surprising and brilliant way. The exhibition offers insights into some of the hidden factors that influence design and shows how we ourselves fit into the process. It examines traditional values and daily habits and shows the collection in the context of today's world. The result is a clearer understanding of the meaning, realities, problems and possibilities of design.
Hans Hollien, artist, architect, designer, planner, teacher and writer, organized the Cooper-Hewitt Museum's first exhibition as the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Design in 1976. Gathering together the works and theories of such modern designers, architects and urban planners as R. Buckminster Fuller, Richard Meier, Ettore Sottsass, George Nelson and others, this companion piece to the exhibit examines elements of human life and its relationship to the contemporary (as of 1976) environment. Contains many interesting essays and illuminating illustrations and photographs.
