Fans of Bella Andre and Sylvia Day will love Jami's latest steamy story! Wendy Carmichael's career as a high-powered attorney leaves her little time for a love - or sex - life. She has a broken engagement to prove it. With everything she's worked for on the line, she can't afford to be distracted -especially not by Drew Walker. The first time she laid eyes on the brash, cocky millionaire five years ago Wendy knew that giving into the chemistry sparking between them could only lead to trouble. But when they're thrown together at a party in paradise, his wicked smile and rock hard body draw her like a moth to a flame. Convincing herself one night of indulgence can't hurt, Wendy decides to find out once and for all if being with Drew is as hot as she's always imagined. But Drew isn't satisfied with just one night, and neither is Wendy. When Drew proposes a no holds barred, no strings attached affair that will end when he moves across the country, Wendy can't say no. Yet as the nights pass, each hotter than the last, Wendy discovers that what she thought was casual is anything but, and has potential to be so much more. Now she fears that when cocky, too sexy for his own good Drew walks out of her life, she'll be saying goodbye to the man of her dreams. Like so many romance readers, my first romance novel was by Kathleen Woodiwiss - The Flame and the Flower, to be exact. I was thirteen. I spent the next month working my way through her entire back list. Shortly thereafter I discovered Judith McNaught, Johanna Lindsey, Karen Robards, Catherine Coulter, Shirlee Busbee among others, and devoured their lavish historical epics full of overbearing alpha males and the women who brought them to their knees. I was hooked. My high school teachers marveled at my ability to read romance novels under the desk and still score straight A's. I started to imagine myself, living in a cabin in the mountains somewhere, writing romance novels.
It took me quite awhile to pursue my dream. After graduating from Stanford with a degree in English Literature, I worked in a variety of soul sucking admin jobs before I began my career in marketing. It wasn't exactly my dream job, but at least my writing appeared on several web sites and in many software marketing brochures. Unfortunately I wasn't able to fit the phrase "and her loins melted like hot wax" into any of them.
During my stint as the world's surliest receptionist, I took my first stab at writing. The result was a very melodramatic western historical which reads like a bad Elizabeth Lowell rip off. Its currently languishing on my hard drive, forever stuck on page 330.
Then in fall 2001 I had an incredible stroke of luck and got laid off from my marketing job. I decided it was time to stop saying I wanted to be a writer and to actually give it a serious go. Fortunately my husband, a socially well adjusted alpha male, is a very generous patron of the arts.
Four years later, I sold my first book and I'm pretty much living the dream of getting paid to write romance. I don't live in a cabin in the mountains, but I do live in a rural-ish town near San Francisco (hey, we have deer and bunnies in our yard, along with the occasional coyote) with my husband, sons, and two dogs who patiently listen to my dialogue and help me work out plot points. When I'm not writing sexy romance, I enjoy running, reading, yoga and watching Food Network and bad reality TV.
Wendy is a driven corporate attorney very close to making partner at her firm, so she can't afford to get distracted by her long-running inexplicable attraction to brash, cocky Drew Walker. Both characters are consistent and true to themselves. When they are thrown together at a get-away party, they indulge in a one-night stand. Except the one night isnt' enough to sate either.
This is book#3 in the series...but I read it 1st. didn't ruin anything but it was good enough to make me want to find & read #1 & #2.
Wendy is an up & coming attorney. All work & not much fun...so much so her fiancé dumped her & had "their" wedding with his assistant. Wendy is devastated but strong. On a mini-vacation visiting her good friend Julie at the Caribbean resort she & her husband Chris own, she runs into Chris's best-friend Drew who has always managed to rub her the wrong way. Little does she know it because he’s always liked her & hated her fiancé. So now that she’s single…he makes his move.
This was my first by Jami Alden and I absolutely loved it! I enjoyed Wendy and Drew’s relationship. Their chemistry was on fire. You could tell right from the beginning they were meant for each other. Drew pined for her for 5 years. There was no way he could be away from her after being with her and the way they fit so perfectly together. As the weeks went by, their feelings were growing stronger and stronger. By the last few days together, I couldn’t read the words that were on the page without crying. It was so powerful. The emotions that were swirling around. It was a beautiful story and I plan on reading more of Jami’s work.
What do you get when two alpha's who start a relathionship - an explosion. That is exactly the story between Wendy and Drew. Wendy and Drew first met at the wedding of their friends, Julie and Chris (their love story is depicted in book 1 of this series). Wendy was dumped six months prior to her wedding by Alan (Alan sounds like a dweeb with his head up his a$$). At a 5 year reunion to celebrate Julie and Chris' anniversary, Drew decides he is going to chase Wendy. And chase he did right to the bedroom. Wendy is is high flyer lawyer working to achieve partner and Drew is a business IT mogul who just sold his company for a half a billion dollars. Both work long hours and both not really looking for a relationship or rather falling in love - but inevitably that is exactly what happens.
I liked this books because Wendy is an independent woman who goes after what she wanted in her career. She pushed back against the social norms about having a career until you get married and have children. It ended her first relationship but in the end she found someone who understands her and she was definitely having better sex. Although Drew was Alpha he was not controlling like other male leads. He wanted Wendy to succeed and understood her need to do so. So although an Alpha he did not want her to stay home barefoot and pregnant. Yeah to Drew.
I purchased this book on Amazon.ca for less than $1.
THIS BOOK #3 (SHORT READ)IN THE SERIES WAS GREAT, SO FAR OUT OF THE 4 BOOKS #2 IS THE ONLY ONE I DIDN'T CARE FOR THE FEMALE LEAD. I LIKED THIS ONE I LAUGHT AND EVEN CRIED NEAR THE END. THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN WENDY AND DREW WAS, WOW! TO SAY THIS SERIES SO FAR IS STEAMY IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT, THERE ARE REALLY NO WORDS TO DISCRIBE IT. THE SEX SCENES ARE WRITTEN SO YOU CAN ALMOST FEEL YOUR THERE WATCHING IT. YES! A WINDOW INTO SOMEONES BEDROOM, KITCHEN, SHOWER, LIVINGROOM, ETC. I'VE STARTED #4 WONDER HOW CREATIVE THIS COUPLE WILL BE?
Easy to read, engaging characters, steamy sex - but the bad editing drove me nuts! One or two misspelled words, maybe a comma in the wrong spot -- ok. But the repetitive and innumerable punctuation errors - that's not ok.
This was a decent, quick paced steamy read with Wendy and Drew working hard to stay uncommitted all while not trying to commit. I got my HEA but I thought the ending was a let down. Need a better editing job. Typos abound.
This is my favorite of the series, so far. Wendy & Drew we’re quite intense at the beginning ... and just continued to smolder until they became a comfortable fire. Hot, but manageable, no?
I just wish there weren’t so many typos! So distracting! But I think it says a lot about how much I enjoyed the story if - despite my frequent comments about the typos - I still had a positive reaction at the end. (I.e., I didn’t feel totally frustrated after it all.)
I really loved this book so much! I liked that the author was able to create a strong, independent female character as the protagonist of the story, and at the same time show these glimpses of that emotional and a bit vulnerable side of Wendy, the side that she often tried to shut down because she didn't want to admit to herself a lot of feelings, it felt like she didn’t want to have any expectations about another guy after her broken engagement.
But after the first night she spends with Drew (holy sexy scenes!!) both of them realize to themselves that a one-night stand isn’t going to be enough, the things is, Drew is more honest and open about it, wanting to spend more time with Wendy, not wanting her to just leave after the… “session” of heat between them passes, etc. Wendy, on the other side, wants to stay away from any emotional strings, not thinking for a minute that Drew would want more than only the physical attraction between them, and not even allowing herself to think otherwise.
I think this book is about discovering and accepting your true emotions, and learning that eventually you’ll have to overcome your fears or doubts. It also shows you that people can change the way they see their lives or even other people, all this in a very light form of writing, the book is pleasant to read because it’s not heavy or tedious, and don´t forget that if you decide to give it a chance and read it, you’ll find a really hot and incredibly handsome guy as main male character!!
Really good novella. Jami Alden is a talented, understated romance author whose books have a sexy pull to them. The original in the series, Private Party, the only full-length entry and published by Kensington Aphrodisia whereas the two novellas have been self-published, is still the best. But Private Pleasures is better than its predecessor, Private Paradise. I loved everything about it except heroine Wendy gets a little hard to bear with her laser focus on her career and refusal to see what's in front of her with Drew. She can be that aggressive, too independent heroine that loses sympathy from readers. But all in all, a good book well worth reading.
It was a good read. I think that the character of Wendy was a little harsh at times. The character of Drew was at the start a little high handed, but after a while I felt sorry for him because he really cared for Wendy & she was treating their relationship like a booty call to start. I will read the rest of the series to see how the next one goes. I am definitely pissed that I started the series on the 2nd book thinking it was the 1st because it was a free download. The 2 following were only 1.02 or 1.99 each but now find out that there is a book 1 & I don't understand why it's 10.35 something doesn't make a lot of sense with the pricing of these books.
Since everyone has given the details of the characters, I am going to jump in to my opinion.
Wendy is the alpha female to Drew's alpha male. Their "no strings" attached is sexy, steamy, and in the end very endearing. Wendy will irritate you at times, and Drew will make you feel sorry for him.
The book was an enjoyable read... however, this book needs some major editing. The other thing is I started this series with book 2. When I went to see about book 1, I was seriously turned off by the drastic price difference. I enjoy this series, but I will make do without book 1.
Wendy is trying to make partner in her law firm, thinking she found the right man (yes, she did not pay attention to the red flags) they get engaged, of course this does not work out. Standing in the wings is a billionaire, that has been lusting after her for sometime, when he gets the chance he jumps at it. Of couse she making noise about her career...Hello he's a billionaire!. Lots of hot sex . I'm still waiting on her to get a clue.
Hot scenes of sex ... Gostei no geral
This series was not my cup of tea. It was your average romance novel with lots of sex, no plot, no mystery, no angst just the same as a thousand other serial soap opera romance. I liked Drew but I like my men more alpha and the woman less neurotic. There was dozen of missed opportunities, example Wendy's mother and her ex-fiancee. Oh well. Just not for me.
This was a quick read and very predictable but I did enjoy it. Lots of chemistry (steam) between the two main characters Wendy and Drew. Wendy is a very driven career minded woman who gets dumped by her fiancé because of her desire to succeed. Drew is a self made millionaire that is very attracted to her. Good quick read-not a lot of depth but a good book to spend a afternoon with.
You know, when i read a book I look for that certain boom that not only wows me, but other readers. As much as i liked this book i felt as if it was rushed and the reason why i feel that way about Private Pleasures was that there were some missing words or words that were suppose to be there but werent fully there.. (If that even makes lick of sense)
Cute typical romance story with some steamy parts...and a great price through Amazon! A fun summer read with two likable characters. I wish I knew it was part of a series; I would have read the first two books before.
It would have been 4 stars, but the kindle version that I read was full of errors. It's unacceptable to sell a book full of typos so that the reader has to try to decifer text. This is one of my pet peeves.
really 3.5 stars...it was WAY steamy but I couldn't get past the typos. case and point: "...her head was about to break free of the confines of her ribcage..."(paraphrasing here but you see my point, right???) my head is SO not in my ribcage!! is yours???
Wow....so many steamy sexy scenes. I think that Drew was mesmerizing but found myself wanting to slap Wendy; I was screaming at the book "Wake the f$$k up!!! The ending was abrupt; I would've liked to have been given more to read about how they did with their life "together".
I LOVED IT LIKE WHOO~! YOU GO JAMI ALDEN~! I LOVE THIS SERIES~! It's stomach-clenching, new need of panties steamy and the romance is heart clenching and beautiful~! Beautiful like the opening of a rose~!
I liked it. I got annoyed with both Drew and Wendy though. I kept wishing they would just suck it up and tell each other how they really felt. Instead of hurting each other.
