Good history of CMC pre-2000. There is no mention of blogs, of websites (too much), of video or of audio, so I found myself reading the book yet saying after every paragraph, "Yet, but in 2011, we can now..." As for a dissertation reading list read, it did give me the history, it did articulate some of disadvantages of CMC (many of those arguments now seem outdated), but some of them are still discussed in current research...
