Marradith Ryder can blow out a light, destroy machinery, or stop your heart with a mere thought. Her ability to control electrical impulses makes her feared by some, a commodity to others. She's sixteen years old, and has lived what appears to be an ordinary life with her parents and younger brother in a small Texas town. With the members of The Circle waging an all out crusade to find and bring her under their control, that's all about to change. They haven't seen the deepest of her powers yet. ***Check out the two standalone novellas within this series: The Moon Goddess and Marradith, Darkly. The second full length novel will be available in early 2016!***
This was an incoherent mess. Everything goes way too fast, there are too many characters, the story makes no sense and I can't for the life of me understand what the mood is supposed to be.
The MC is supposed to be Marradith, but she barely has more chapters than the other characters. And by other characters, I mean THE WHOLE FUCKING PLANET. Everyone gets a POV in this, from a random-ass useless reporter to the villain's henchmen, even if it's for just four paragraphs. It killed me every thinking that I had any idea of what was going on, especially at the end, where you keep head-hopping between about 10+ characters running around individually for less than two pages at a time.
The fact that there's barely any description also makes it incredibly hard to tell who's who. Like, is Marradith black?? Her brother seems to be, and he wasn't adopted, so I guess she is but don't you think that's something you should mention???
The story is basically every urban-fantasy romance with the guy showing up to save the girl and tell her that she's a Shadowhunter/lost princess/his fiancée except 100% too fast. I swear, by page two she's already hiding in the closet waiting to ambush him as he's sneaking inside her house AND YOU HAVE NO FRICKIN' IDEA OF WHAT'S GOING ON.
These guys have 0 personality, too. Marradith is all chill when this random-ass werewolf breaks inside her house and drags her inside a car to drive who knows where, she barely has any reaction when PEOPLE FLIP THEIR FUCKING CAR INTO A LAKE and she goes into a convenience store willy-nilly right after with a smile on her face.
Like, this could work and be awesome if I had any idea of how this bitch acts normally. But I don't! THIS IS PAGE 2!!! Hell, even An Ember in the Ashes knew that setting up the family interaction was important before you kill them off!
HOW HARD CAN THIS BE??? I KNEW TO DO THIS AT FUCKING 13! THIRTEEN, YOU FOOLS!!!!
In fact, the only times she shows any negative emotions is when she just states it out of the blue in the middle of a dialogue.
Marradith: *totally chilling* Ok so these guys want to kill me? Justin: No they just want to have you, like us. Marradith: Ok. How about my family? It's like torture not knowing where they are.
I really feel the weight of her sorrow.
She and Justin have like 0 chemistry, too. They're like talking about the plot 95% of the time and drop a cringe joke somewhere and then bam! I love you marry me.
And the plot is both simple and complicated; simple because it's clichéd and stupid, and complicated because every time something does anything you need to know IMMEDIATELY what the other 12 characters thought about it, making it a packed and confused mess. Basically the Circle is after Marradith to make her kill people, and the Sojourners are after Marradith to make her kill people.
They little state it like that in the book I'm not making that up.
It's nothing worth reading. The ebook format was screwed several times and I kid you not, the first 3-4 paragraphs were repeated. THIS IS SHIT I SEE IN PORN.
AT LEAST THAT MAKES ME FAP.
YOU'RE NOT EVEN AS GOOD AS PORN
THINK ABOUT THAT WHEN YOU'RE ROTTING AWAY IN SOMEONE'S DISCARD BOX
Also this cover photo actually makes me want to cry it's so sad
Let's just say that if I could give this book a zero, I would have. I don't want to offend the author, I'm sure this book took a lot of work but the simple truth is that it was beyond boring and did not make much sense in any way.
So... the book is about a young girl who is very powerful and there are bad people who want to use her to do bad things. Then there are the "good" people who want to use her to do bad things....
Everything is twisted in a very nonsensical way, the characters have no depth at all, the dialogues are made of stone with some cringe worthy moments thrown in for good measure. Author is rather obviously catholic, and there is nothing bad in that, except for the idea that a girl should marry a guy nearly 200 years older than herself because, in her mother's words "they've spent a few days alone together and God knows what they've been doing"... Oh, and she's seventeen but it's all perfectly alright because she wants to mary him, because she loves him and those three days they've spent together are absolutely enough to make up your mind... right? I mean what??!!
Even putting my problem with the statement above aside for a minute, the entire plot makes no sense, I'm hard pressed to even say that there is a plot at all. The whole purpose of the book is to show that the main character is very special and that there is a strong romantic connection between her and the main male character. There is no chemistry between them, rather unsurprisingly since there is no depth to them either and to make matters worse there is practically nothing between them before they say "I love you" to one another and choose to marry basically the next day. The fantasy world is underdeveloped to say the best, but hey nearly at the end of the book we get some information thrown at us in a form of a lesson for the main character! Is that not gratifying?
I very rarely write reviews and rather often I decide that if I don't have anything good to say it might just be best to say nothing at all. This review is an exception to my rules, and I've done it because I've spent hard earned money buying this book (as a bundle but still), then more importantly I took the time and the pain to read it and now I'm asking myself why. Why did I do this to myself? I have read so many genuinely brilliant books recently that I guess there had to be some balance :-).
I definitely do not recommend it!

YAYYYYYYYYYYYY! Another editing project is now a published book!
From the book:
A young girl is abducted by a man claiming he was sent to protect her. What are the secrets of Marradith Ryder's heritage, and why is The Circle out to get her at any cost?
I really like this story. I enjoyed the characters and the pace of the story. There were lots of twists and turns and I enjoyed the character development that occurred as Maradith discover just what she is capable of. Her older brother worries me a bit and I wonder where his story will go. Over all I'm hooked and can't wait to read the next book.
I liked the concept of the story. I definitely enjoyed it. Even enjoyed some of the characters. Honestly id have been like f you to both groups but I didn't write the story and I am not in it. I did enjoy it even though I ended up disliking one of the characters. I liked marradeth very much and honestly hopes she chooses herself in the end. I will be looking for the next one.
Lori Titus has written a detailed and convoluted story of every paranormal being imaginable. The tale is centered around 17 year old Marrideth Ryder and needs to be read carefully to follow the plot. An interesting start to this new series.
In “Hunting in Closed Spaces” by Lori Titus, we meet Marradith Ryder, a 16 year old girl with some special gifts. Unaware of what she is, the novel starts off with a rescue mission. People who do know are out to get Marradith, and she is visited (borderline abducted) by a man sent to protect her. On the run, chased by members of a group called the Circle, Marradith begins to come into her own. A fast paced book with well developed characters. I really enjoyed it.
I liked this story a lot and I can’t wait for the next one to see what happens next. The only thing that I really found lacking was Marradith’s relationship with Justin went a bit fast for me.
Marradith Ryder is a young woman with remarkable talents and lives in a small town in Texas with her parents and her little brother. That is until she is abducted from her home by a man who says he was sent to protect her. With her older brother gone to who knows where. She wants to know why everyone is after her.
I honestly wasn't sure what to expect when I first started reading. I assumed that the book would be about someone trying to kill Marradith. But I was wrong. I wasn't expecting so much information to be packed Into the first book of the series but everything flowed so well. It seemed like I read the first and second book in one book. It was an interesting flow that I thoroughly enjoyed. Can't wait to read the second book.
Paranormal is my favorite genre! This was the first book I read from this author and I loved it! Marrideth is the key and she doesn't even know her family's secrets. Her world is turned upside down from being just a highschool student lol.
I enjoyed meeting all the characters, and the whole backstory of Leighton. Nice twists, interesting. The Ryder family seems to have more secrets to reveal!
