Barbara Park is hilarious. My daughter absolutely loves her books! Junie B. is such a great character. Keeps my daughter entertained and loving to read!
In the book ¨Junie B. Jones is Captain Field Day¨ the main character, Junie, competes against another class. Junie is really excited about the day. The excitement extends into the school day, and Junie is selected as captain of the classroom. There are different events the classes compete against each other. Junieś class does really well until she accidentally loses the tag team event for her classroom.
Junie rubs it in that she becomes captain of Classroom Nine and her classmates did not, and she becomes bossy. Thelma is elected as captain of Classroom Eight, and Junie does not like the idea of another captain. Junie remains bossy until she realizes a good captain should support her members instead of yelling at them.
The story takes place at the playground at Junieś school. The time is not specified. The school is appropriate for the setting because the teachers were there to help show the kids the difference between right and wrong and how to correct their behavior.
A main theme is not to judge others because each person has a special talent to share with others. In the story a shy boy nicknamed Cry Baby Williams ends up doing the most pull ups and is stronger than the other people.
This is a cute one! As a teacher, I love to read books aloud for holidays and major events, but it’s hard to find a book about field day. This one is perfect fun! Over the years, I have read this aloud to my 2nd, 4th, and 5th grade classes, as well as my after school kids in Extended Day. They always enjoy it and laugh aloud!
“‘He blew it…[he] blew it for our team.’ ‘Yes,’ said that Grace. ‘Just like when you blew the relay race, Junie B.’ I made squinty eyes at that girl. ‘Thank you, Grace. Thank you for reminding me,’ I said. ‘You’re welcome,’ she said back. That Grace does not understand sarcastic, apparently” (45-46).
“‘One of the things we learn in Field Day is to never give up. Room Nine is not a bunch of quitters. Are we, Junie B.?’ I looked at Room Nine’s faces. ‘Pretty much,’ I said” (54).
This book was about how Junie Wanted to be the captain of field day. They drew names and she got chosen .She was overexcited that many things happened .She was really happy and she made her special costume for field day.She made this costume with a towel as her cape yellow legging and this superman shirt. It looked pretty funny one her.On the day of field day her mom and family members went out and supported her .She competes with other classes. There class was doing well until they lost a game.Junie beacomes more bosier since she is the captian.I recommend this book to anyone .It made me feel like I wanted to laugh a lot because I have read most of the Junie b jones book and they are funny .What she does is really funny. But one thing is that she doesn't care what others say much.
I truly cannot explain the beauty of this book. Junie B Jones. The B doesnt just stand for Beatrice. It stands for brilliant, best, baffling, beyond my expectations. I have read this book many, many times. I will read it many more times. My children shall read it. Perhaps I will name my son Junie. My cat B. And my husband, Jones.
“Junie B. Jones Captain Field Day” is about a girl who is in kindergarten. She is excited about the first day of school. When she started to go to school she liked to run. She has a race against other students. Room Nine competes against another class. Junie lost her shoe during the race and everyone was mad at her because she lost. She feels bad about it because the race was important. Junie reminds others that they are there to have fun and not fight.
Junie is a main character and she is kindergarten. She wanted to be the captain and be the best. There are other teachers and students in the story too.
The story takes place mostly at the school. The events last about one day.
The main theme of this book is to not be mad at others if they lose because they are trying their best and they would feel bad if others picked on them.
I would recommend it to boys and girls any age because everyone needs to be nice to others.
First, for anyone who felt they needed to be "boss" when they were in 1st grade....you'll love this book. Second, anyone who knows "BSB" or my twin sister, Shirley, this book is about her :) ANNNNDDDD, probably about me, too :)
Yes, it's written for 1st-2nd graders....but my 4th graders still love it when I read this book to them the morning before field day....and I read it to them because they get a huge kick out of it and it still makes me giggle.
Junie B. Jones Is Captain Field Day is a fiction book about Junie B. getting to be captain at school for her classroom during field day. Class number nine will be competing against class number eight. Unfortunately, for class number nine, they kept losing to class number eight and everyone in class number nine felt sad. Mrs. was not about that and asked if any student would compete in the last event of the pull up bar. Surprisingly, the shy boy William volunteered to go against the strongest kid Frankie from class number eight. To everyone’s surprise, William beat Frankie and it was the only win of the day for class number nine. The illustrations are simple to the point and not very difficult to understand. Students aged from second grade-fifth grade could easily follow along. This comes to my teaching lesson, none of the kids were happy about losing every event and Mrs. quickly sets everyone straight about field day. She told the kids it is not about winning or losing, but most importantly having fun in the events. These days’ kids are really concerned about winning and they often forget to have fun, that’s why I liked how Mrs. approached her students with the importance of having fun on field day.
Junie B. Jones books are commonly read to a little girl I babysit and she and I both LOVE them. They are funny and cute and always hold a good lesson. In this book Junie learns about never underestimating people and about leadership. She has to realize that being captain doesn't mean that she is better than everyone, but rather that she has to support everyone and show them how to lose gracefully. Personally these books are some of my favorite children’s books, especially as read aloud books with one of the little girls I watch. This book also has illustrations that are so precious. I also appreciate the way Junie treats William. She seems so gentle when she talks to him and I feel like that shows a very good message to many kids that may be reading this book. Overall I highly recommend these books for early readers!
Junie B is excited for the upcoming field day, when she and her room 9 classmates will compete against their arch-kindergarten-rivals over in room 8 in a whole series of events. And her excitement reaches the boiling point when her name is drawn to be team captain. She dons a cape (well, a towel, really) and proclaims herself Captain Field Day, ready to lead her team to victory.
As Junie B herself would say...
"Yeah, only here's the problem..."
When the field day doesn't exactly go as planned for Room 9, it's up to an unlikely hero to save the day.
Even though you could see it coming, the ending was really well done, taking the spotlight off of Junie B for a bit without getting too preachy and without losing the fun of the story.
It is field day at Junie B. Jones' school and she is team captain. Room 8 was winning every event. Room 9 was getting very discouraged because they had not won a single event. The last event was pull-ups. William, a kid in Room 9 did 11 pull-ups and won the event. Junie B. gave William her cape and Room 9 was very excited even though they did not win as many events as Room 8.
I always enjoy reading Junie B. Jones' books! I find them very funny and such fun books to read. I think kids also find these books very entertaining. I know as a kid I did.
I think this book can be used in many different ways. I think you could use this book to teach never giving up and team work. I also think you could use this book to talk about having good sportsmanship.
