Broken

Rate this book
When I’m broken and nothing seems to make any sense, I go back to the ranch, to my beautiful Jessie. Jess…fixes me, makes me whole again.

Those were the words written in Adam's journal shortly before he died. His twin brother, Mitch, has never met Jessie, but believes she must be some kind of woman to glue his brother back together time after time. Now it is up to Mitch to tell her that Adam is gone, that he will never again return to her waiting arms. He doesn't want to tell her, doesn't want to be the one to break her heart, but what choice does he have?

On the drive to Jessie's ranch, Mitch devises a way they can both put closure on Adam's death. Posing as Adam will give Jessie one last time with him. Mitch can give her the memories she deserves, let her hear the words Adam should have spoken to her when he had the chance. And in the process, maybe Jessie can ease some of the ache in his own heart.

It is a simple plan; give Jessie a lifetime of memories, mend his own broken heart, then leave and send word of Adam's death. But the moment Mitch arrives at the ranch, his plan begins to fall apart. Jessie is everything his brother said she was, everything Mitch could ever hope for in a woman. Now he must spend the rest of his life pretending to be Adam, or tell Jessie the truth and risk losing her forever.

From page one; this book had a hold on me. The story starts off with the hero Mitch reading his recently deceased identical twin brother, Adam’s journal. They were both Special Ops soldiers and on their last mission, Adam was killed saving Mitch’s life. Mitch followed Adam into the Special Ops only because they were very close to each other. While on missions, Adam would tell his team just how special Jessie, the woman he was involved with was. How she was always waiting for his return and how much she helped heal him from the trauma that these missions inflicted upon him. Now with Adam’s death, Mitch wanted to go to Jessie, posing as Adam to comfort Jessie, and also let her know how much she meant to Adam. Adam never really let Jessie know how much he cared for her. Mitch figured that he would pretend to be Adam, spend a week or two with Jessie, then leave knowing that Jessie would finally know Adam’s feelings before she found out that he had died. With the help from Adam’s very detailed journal, Mitch figured he would be able to pull off pretending to be Adam.

When Mitch gets to Jessie’s ranch, he sits back and watches her without her knowing. He notices right away just how upset Jessie is that Adam has not came back yet. When Mitch finally approaches Jessie, she automatically thinks that he is Adam. She runs into his arms and they kiss very passionately. The attraction between them sparked to unbelievable heights and they end up making love.

As days go by, Jessie notices that Adam is showing more feelings towards her than he ever did before. She always’ cared a great deal for Adam but now her feelings for Adam were becoming so much more. This scares Jessie, because Adam would stay with her a week or two and then he’d get restless and leave on another mission. But now Adam is saying that he plans to stay, and is openly showing his feelings towards her, even in front of others, which he has never done before. Adam told Jessie when they first started seeing each other 3 years ago, that he was not the marrying kind and children for him were out of the question. He explained to her that his life revolved around being on the Special Ops team and would never change. Mitch on the other hand, knew after spending just a short time with Jessie that he would never leave her. The problem...he is not Adam.

WHAT A STORY LINE!! As the book continues it just got better and better. I loved reading how these two fell madly in love, and I actually fell madly in love with Mitch too. He was everything that Adam would never have been to Jessie. I really felt his love for her and that made the story even more of a romantic read for me.

These two were HOT for each other and were constantly falling into bed. The love scenes were numerous and they went on and on. Despite this, it really wasn't an erotic read. The scenes were well done, but not kinky. What I felt these scenes did for me, was they showed the amount of love these two shared. It shined right off of the pages in a rage of blazing glory.

Mitch and Jessie’s characters were portrayed exceptionally well. There was also a huge cast of secondary characters that were wonderful and added so much to the overall story.

There was one thing that I felt held me back from giving this book a 5 star rating. There was a villain in this book and he did some really bad things. Then all of a sudden, he does an abrupt change and becomes a good guy. This was hard for me to swallow and I really wished this part of the story would have taken another route.

In the end, there is a WONDERFUL epilogue. It tied things up very nicely with a great happily ever after ending, something that I need in my reads.

There is a lot that happens in this story and I just gave you a taste of what it's about, there are some big things that happen, but I didn't want to spoil the read for anyone.

Overall, I think this book was well written. It was very romantic and it tugged on my heartstrings. I HIGHLY recommend this book, I LOVED it to pieces and I’m sure it will stay with me for some time to come.

This book would make a great Lifetime Movie, which can be a good thing and a bad thing. Seriously, it really would. We have our hero, Mitch, who just lost his twin brother, Adam, during one of their Special Ops missions. Prior to Adam's death, he was seeing Jessie. Adam and Jessie would get together in between missions. Adam pretty much uses Jessie a crutch, of sorts. He finds peace and comfort with Jessie. However, Jessie knows that each time Adam visits, it won't be for a long period of time. They come to an understanding that this is all their relationship would ever be. After Adam's death, Mitch takes it upon himself to help Jessie. Mitch's plan is to provide Jessie long lasting, loving memories of Adam, leave, then sending word of Adam's demise. He believes this will help her cope. However, as soon as Mitch steps out of his truck to meet Jessie, he falls head over heels. Initially, Jessie believes this man is Adam, but as the story progresses, she starts to notice subtle differences and figures everything out. Mitch, on the other hand, is trying to figure out how to tell her the truth. The negative, it just seems to drag on and on and on. To confront or not to confront. That was the question. I found myself skipping towards the end just so it can end. Not good. At least I got this for free from Amazon. And like I said, it would make for a great Lifetime movie. :)

well Goodreads ate the first review, lets try this again..

I really liked this book and would go so far as to say that its my favorite so far. (of the available Kimberley Reeves books available on Kindle- I love the Vittorio books but give me a cowboy any day :) )

The story flowed so smooth and the author did a good job portraying the characters feelings. I felt so bad for Mitch (H) at first because he fell so hard and quick for the heroine and she thought he was his brother. I didnt like that he decided to act like his brother and that she didnt realize that something was up and I could have smacked both characters a couple of times (like the times they both let the whole matter of his identity go on) but their story is definitely an emotional feel good book I think. I could have did without the recollection of the heroine and brother's first night together and how much they had sex and how good it was. I was a little put off at first because she had a previous relationship with his brother, not just his brother but his IDENTICAL twin brother. That put me off but then I told myself it wasnt an actual relationship, they were just friends but it in fact was a relationship, of a sexual nature at least.
I loved the epilogue and catching up with all the different characters Im just so glad I read this book :)

Did I mention the editing? I didnt see any typos and the formatting was good. It was like a breath of fresh air being able to actually read through a book and not have to mark pages about typos or wrong formatting or figure out just what the author is trying to say..

This book was truly amazing and beautiful, it gave me great joy to read it and if all of Kimberely Reeves novels are this good and such a joy to read, I will be a contented fan, always!

When Adam was broken, he'd go to Jessie and she would fix him. Then Adam would go back to the Special Ops and continue on with his missions. On his last mission, Adam never came back, he was killed by saving his brother Mitchell.

When Mitch read Adam's journal about Jessie, he knew he had to go to her and be with her. He knew she was something special, so he was going to pretend to be Adam for her and then eventually leave. Only he couldn't leave because he was in love with Jessie.

Jessie knew something was different about Adam, she didn't know what until Adam told her that his brother died saving him. Jessie's heart was breaking for dear Adam but when this Adam didn't have scars in the rightful places that her original Adam did, she knew that this was Mitch and not Adam.

Silently she grieved for Adam but she was pregnant with Mitch's twin boys and she knew she loved him desperately and completely. So she waiting for Mitch to tell her the truth, only he didn't until he was forced to.

At first I was really conflicted about how I really felt about this story and the more I thought about it, the more I realized how much I truly enjoyed it. I was skeptical about everyone's role and reaction to the situation. But if I found myself in this place, I think if want the same scene too to play out.

So the story is about twin brothers, Adam and Mitch, who are in the special ops together. Adam takes every chance he can to spend time with his lover Jessie. She's in love with Adam but he admits to her that he's not capable of giving her the life that she wants or deserves.

When Adam is killed protecting his twin brother Mitch, Mitch decides to seek Jessie out. He pretends to be Adam so that she can have a final goodbye before she finds out the truth.

But then......... Things get complicated. The rest is for your eyes only;-)

3.5 stars. A moving story about a twin brother going to tell his brother's lover that he has died in war. Deciding that he wants to give her the satisfaction of having to be able to be with her lover one last time the twin takes on the identity of the fallen brother. He develops a strong relationship with the lover and it becomes harder and harder to tell her the truth because he knows that it will send her away from him.

I had a hard time with this book because I couldn't believe that the twin wouldn't just come out and tell her the truth because it was obvious that she loved him for who and what he was. And, I really have a hard time not believing that she didn't know her current lover was not the same man as the prior one. Yes, she had her doubts but she herself never fully realized the difference.

But the book ended well and I did love the two main characters.

Okay, so I'm now officially a 'fan' of Kimberley Reeves' writing, so maybe some people would say that I've stopped being objective with regard to her work... but I don't think that's the case. I know what I enjoy reading and it's impossible not to get excited when you come across an author who delivers what you want time and again.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating. This Author is SMOOTH. Her writing style flows and her plotlines and characters are kept fresh by unexpected twists and a LOT of well written emotion.

I can't see any romance reader being disappointed by 'Broken'. Just a word of advice though, maybe, keep the hankies nearby and be prepared for a story that will leave you wanting more by this author.

Oh my dang God, this is a fairy tale and I freaking loved it.

This author wrote a story that etched itself on my heart!

Mitch's twin brother Adam died saving his life and left him his journal chronicaling his relationship with Jessie. Jessie was Adams touchstone, she healed him with her loving whenever he was between special ops missions. Mitch feels he needs to go to her in person and break the news of Adam's death to her.

After watching her for a few days he approaches her and she mistakes him for Adam. Mitch is already half in love with her and pretends to be Adam.

I can't even begin to go into how unlikely this is but it JUST WORKS. The emotion, the tenderness, I just freaking loved it.

So recommended.

I have read this book 3 times now but I decided it’s Time I write a review so that maybe others can read it and fall in love with Jessie and Mitch. When you read the description you know what your getting, but you don’t get the feeling that are envoked throughout the story. I laughed and I had years, even after reading it and know what was goin to happen. It was raw and just a really beautiful story that I will, at some point, reread again.

That’s pretty much all I can say. I do with that we had gotten more from Jessie’s past, and that the only reason it’s 4 and not 5 Stars. I get that this book is about healing in more ways then one and I absolutely love the story so it pains me to give it 4 stars, but I feel it hits almost every other mark that I can think of. #2OCCJD

Broken.

Disliked most of the book.
It's a sexual book that reminds me of porn. I don't need sex described to me as if I were 13. Grown women don't need to read books like this if they have had a good relationship.

Not my ordinary cuppa tea - but then the story grabbed me and drew me in - and I enjoyed every word. I'm more apt to choose murder mysteries but this was a nice break from the norm.

I must admit I picked up Broken because I just had to see how they resolved everything in the book. Adam and Mitch are identical twins and when Adam dies in the field Mitch goes back to his girl, Jessie, pretending to be Adam to give her one last visit from him before finding out he is dead. Well of course they fall in love, but how is Mitch supposed to tell her he is not Adam? Yes indeed. How is this all going to work out? Warning spoilers ahead.

So Mitch shows up at Jessie's place and after watching her for a few days and seeing how sad she is decides to give her one last visit from Adam. Then he can have someone else come and tell her Adam died. Great idea...I really have no idea how he thought it would work. Yes, they are identical twins, but Jessie knows Adam intimately. It is just...you just have to go with it at times. He does have Adam's journal where he talked about the ranch hands and such on Jessie's ranch so he knows who people are kind of and can pretend.

Jessie is so happy to have Adam back even if he is acting different. She loves the new Adam and at first is always waiting for him to revert back to his old self. He is more affectionate and keeps saying he is going to stay, but Jessie knows Adam gets fidgety after a few weeks. As the weeks go on and he doesn't change back she starts to get comfortable in their new routine and believe that he will stay around.

Then Jessie gets pregnant. She is super worried about how Adam will take it since he had a vasectomy before he met her since he didn't want kids. Of course Mitch didn't know this, but Jessie doesn't know what to do. And it is at this time that she figures out Adam is not Adam, Adam must be his brother Mitch! What happens once she figures this out? Well not much. She is worried for Mitch's mental health, like he might actually think he is his brother. She just loves him so much she cannot even imagine for a second losing him, and she is not angry with him at all for pretending to be Adam. Odd. Not how I would react. I was expecting more of a confrontation or something to happen and then Mitch having to work his way back into her good graces, but nope. It is fine. The story goes on for a while more, Jessie waiting for Mitch to come clean so they can move forward with their lives and Mitch trying to figure out how to tell Jessie in a way so that she won't hate him forever. It was just a bit of a let down, and I didn't really believe it. At the same time it was kind of nice not to have a bunch of drama, but still.

Oh and there is a bad guy land owner who wants to buy Jessie's farm and take over everything. He is not a nice guy and there are some issues with that. Mitch and him have a fight and then the bad guy is all I will get you for this! Mwahahah! Well he does try and ruin everything in the end, but when it doesn't work he is just like oh, okay. Cool. Bestest friends now? Again it was a wait what? He is just giving up and everyone is going to be friends now? Um...okay. It just didn't seem to fit the character up until that point. Even with all of this unexpected easy solutions to all of the problems I still enjoyed the book, more than I thought I would.

Mitch retired from working in Special Ops with his brother Adam after Adam was killed in there last mission together. Adam and Mitch are identical twins. Mitch goes over Adams journal and then makes the journey to tell his girlfriend Jessie that Adam as passed away. Mitch is a hot and sexy man who falls for Jessie at first sight.

Jessie is used to Adam coming and going all the time with no expectations of staying. When Mitch comes to talk to her, she mistakes him for Adam and Mitch does not correct her. Jessie is a smart woman who slowly pieces it all together. What I loved about her is she thought before she acted rather than throw a fit.

The chemistry between Mitch and Jessie is blistering hot. It’s apparent from the beginning that they care about each other. The sex scenes were hot and steamy. I loved that Jessie could see the differences between Adam and Mitch even before she found out about Mitch.

I found this story to be well written. I had a hard time putting this story down. I loved that this story was not what I expected it to be after reading the blurb. The main and secondary characters were interesting and realistic. Overall, this was a great book. I can see re-reading this in the future.

I now know why I don't read romance novels. Too much sex for my taste, and quite cheesy. But it was free, so I decided to try it. That being said, it wasn't a bad book. The story/plotline was interesting, but a bit shallow. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!

The story started out strong and passionate, but when Hank found out that Mitch was posing as "Adam", it went downhill. It became a sex-fest and then Jessie realized "Adam" was really Mitch, and it just didn't make sense to me that the reactions were as described. I also really didn't like that Mitch kept making love to Jessie and didn't seem to care that he was playing with her. One slip, I could understand...maybe 2, but I think that it would've been more passionate and uh, "arousing" if Mitch ("Adam") fought his desires; fell in love with her before they "consummated" the relationship.

It also would've been more exciting to me if Jessie didn't find out about Adam/Mitch until Jud plowed in, proud as a peacock, with the "proof". But then again, I guess romance novels are supposed to be cheery and with everyone living happily ever after.

this book was amazing its up there in my list of favorites this book was heartrending and beautiful. this book was moving and that doesn't happen allot to me. it was one of those books with an amazing story and selfless characters the last line of the book was perfect and closed the book perfectly. Jessie was a strong willed heroine who fights for what she wants and doesn't give us. Mitch made me melt a little he has such a big heart i do think what he did was little twisted even if it was for good intentions nothing really goes well from impersonating your twin but surprisingly there were no hard feelings at the end. broken is a perfect title because essentially Jessie and Mitch were broken and healed each other. this book i highly recommend its a good book if you interested in an emotional great read

Broken was a book that I wasn't entirely sure how the story would play on. It is about Mitch Kincaid. Him and his twin brother are special ops agents. His brother Adam has a woman who he goes home to as he says "fix him" after every mission. Adam gets killed saving Mitch on the last mission. Mitch reads his journal and decides to go home to give Jessie a few good memories to last her by pretending to be Adam. Long story short he falls in love with Jessie and doesn't want to leave. The story was long and drawn out, but I feel like it didn't captivate me and hold my attention very well. I found myself trying to read it fast just to find out how it ended. Luckily it had a happy ending and it wasn't a cliff hanger. I am giving it a 3 based on the good parts of the book and the ending.

I liked it didn't love it. I liked the fire Jessie had as the female lead but ultimately lost interest in her ever present understanding of any oddity that occurred where Adam or Mitch were concerned. I liked Mitch a lot but I think old man Hank was my favorite character in this book which is bad given that he is a peripheral character. If you prefer your heroine to be all positive never wavering faith in her man, male lead hot, totally alpha & broken in several ways and all that wrapped up in a neat shiny little package without to much turmoil you'll love this book. This book was like a first date that you SO wanted to get to a 2nd but just can't make yourself pick up the phone.

I hate to say this since the book started out so strong but, DUH. Everything was too perfect and neatly packaged. I love when a book lacks too much drama, but this was so sickly sweet. Who forgives someone for lying to them about their identity for months and months? And I get how the whole pregnancy thing, and how it gave her insight to who Mitch really was, but BARF. I am sooooo bummed about how this book rapidly declined after 25% of the way through. And, like Lord of the Rings, it ended too many times. I hate giving bad reviews but I just was so disappointed that I had to explain why.

Well it's official, I <3 Kimberley Reeves.
This was a strange situation, this Mitch stepping in Adam's place story. And there was a few times where you just want to shake the characters and say JUST TALK TO ONE ANOTHER, but isn't that how it always goes in romance novels? While the story line was a little too far fetched, this story was just so well written, the characters so well defined, and the flow of the tale so smooth and easy to read.
Highly recommended for an afternoon read!

I'm not normally one for romance novels. I tend to stick to young adult fantasy and fiction. I've always thought they were a bit over the top with the sex scenes and such. But this book didn't goninto gory details and remained on the surface of the intamacy. Yeah maybe the plot is a tad bit cheesy and it would be a great lifetime flick -kind of Legends of the Fall meets While You Were Sleeping- but it is a good book. It's a quick and easy read and definitely worth picking up.

(My previous review on this did not post!! Hopefully it sticks this time.)

I read Broken with a friend of mine, and I loved it. The southern feel, the ranch, personalities that you grow to love- the characters, and the 'secrets' revealed make this a five star read. (Not to mention the naughty scenes!) Wink-Wink. I wasn't sure how this was going to unfold, but Reeves does a great job at keeping you guessing till the end! I'll not spoil it, but this one is a keeper. ;)

I love the way Reeves writes she takes you into a story and keeps you there.the lead characters where well written.
the parts that i thought ok she's gonna flip now and somehow reeves wrote through the situation to show a different view. oh when he was being all macho man - i assusmed she was gonna show dude the door - but the book to a different perspective.
I really love to read any of your books.

I have to say this has been one of the best books I've read. I was a little skeptical at first due to the nature of the story. I mean who pretends to be their dead brother. But as the story went on you realize how hard it was for the MC (Mitch) to make that choice. The story flowed smoothly and was easy to capture your attention. Something very few have a way of doing. This is one I would recommend reading.

I got this book while it was FREE and this is the first time I've read a book by this author. I'll be reading more of her work.

I really enjoyed the plot I understand why the author did what she did with the brother's (without giving anything away)

This book was an easy read. It flowed nicely there were never any boring parts I wanted to skip over. I enjoyed this book a lot it made me cry a little and laugh. I liked the feisty Jessie and who wouldn't love Mitch :)
