I have found this book indispensable. It is one of several books I use to slow down and embed my imagination in the culture, lifestyle, work, economy, etc. of Old and New Testament history. Familiarity with the contexts of the books of the Bible is necessary to understand them properly. This book greatly helps in my preparation of sermons and Bible studies, as well as my personal devotional life.

I wish I had the time and the mental capacity to study this book to the point that I could recall it as necessary. I have not read it all the way through, and I just know I'm missing lots of meanings in the Bible because I don't understand the context as well as I should. What I have read has been very impressive.

The book has detailed illustrations and text on the history and culture of the people living through the time periods of the books of the Bible. a decent companion for anyone interested in studying and understanding the bible on a spiritual level or on a historical level.

Very helpful little book especially for those of us who have not yet had the chance to study ancient history in great detail but still take exegesis seriously.
