In the time when Ragnarok, the fall of the gods, has been predicted to occur, Fenris Fenrir is on a desperate quest to locate the reincarnated Balder, to seek his help in changing the world, before the valkyries find him and civilization is doomed.
Jälleen taso laski hieman. Liian paljon taistelukohtauksia mun makuun. Olisi sitä varmasti joku muukin keino tuoda esiin. Usein ne taistelukohtaukset ovat vielä tosi epäselviä. Muutenkin vähän samoja ongelmia kuin aikaisemmissa osissa.
You know when you read a book and like it, but then when you reread it or read other works by the same author you start noticing what words or phrases the author uses too much? That's what happened with this book, but with the art. The backgrounds are really really nonexistent. The different types being: 1. Straight lines coming out from whatever the object of importance is in the frame. 2. Straight lines going through the frame in an attempt to show what direction the person in the frame is moving in. 3. Lightning/energy radiating out from whatever the object of importance is in the frame. 4. Clouds oddly positioned in the sky to radiate out from whatever the object of importance is in the frame. .... Get my point? It gets pretty hard to ignore once noticed. Occasionally they'll switch things up by adding some blurred bushes/trees/cliffs or brick work to the background, but even that isn't very impressive (and is often paired with oddly shaped clouds radiating out from whatever the object of importance is in the frame...). The characters have some unique looks to them, but the backgrounds are just... ugh.
The story is finally starting to get interesting, which isn't bad for the third book. Sadly, this ends the amount of volumes that I own; I might try to track down the rest of the story at some other point but it's not a high priority at the moment.
Overall, it's an interesting shounen take on Norse Mythology; and while I barely remember the MMO of the same name, I feel like this manga series is still missing a certain something to really knock it out of the park- maybe it's the stereotypical characters that are ruining it for me, because the art is good and the story is decent enough.
To conclude, at this point, I think if you're looking for a quick shounen fix this manga might do it for you. Anything else though, and there's definitely better options.
Definitely a way more solid entry than the previous, and it feels like here we finally get some measure of what's going to happen with the plot going forward. I feel like this might be my most favorite in the series so far!
I'm somewhat interested to see how this turns out, but only because I'm interested in the Norse stories behind this book. Maybe I should read something different based on the same stories.
This was just as good as the first two volumes. I enjoyed the pacing and the illustrations were wonderful. I am looking forward to reading volumes 4 and 5 and then finishing the series soon.
