NEIL T. ANDERSON is founder and president of Freedom in Christ Ministries. He was formerly the chairman of the Practical Theology Department at Talbot School of Theology. He holds five degrees from Talbot, Pepperdine University and Arizona State University and Arizona State University and has authored several bestselling books on spiritual freedom, including Victory Over the Darkness and The Bondage Breaker.
Another wonderful book by Anderson. There was in this book a lot that is found in his other books, but that’s ok because the truths he repeats about who we are in Christ and who God truly is are always good to read again. The chapters near the end explaining the fear of God and how to recover a healthy fear of God were especially good. Neil Anderson and his ministry have been a tremendous blessing to the church.
Freedom from Fear was an amazing read about how we can allow fear to enslave us and rule us. I have been in counseling and through that was introduced to this book, which has since been given to me because it helped me so much. The testimonies of fearful individuals and the verses that help explain each aspect of fear and captivity are wonderful, helping the reader understand that fear is basically everywhere in different forms and sizes. Also, each testimony is so useful and applicable that it is very easy to relate the person’s circumstances to your own even if you do not share the same fear object or circumstance.
DON’T LET FEAR RULE YOU! DEAL WITH IT NOW AND FIND THE FREEDOM THAT IS SO READILY AVAILABLE!
Overall: I would recommend this book to just about any Joe, Dick, or Harry (as well as Sue, Jane, or Lizzie) that I met out on the street. The truth is that you may not even recognize your fear, but you still react to it. This book will help you find the tools you need to throw some stumbling blocks of your own under Satan’s feet.
PS Go through “The Steps to Freedom in Christ”. It was by far the best part of the book!
There are some helpful insights in here to be sure, but too much superstition and unbiblical ideas.
Ironically, for a book about fear, the authors seem obsessive about attributing most fears to demonic oppression.
For example, one man is said to have had a demon oppress him for his entire adult life because at 14 he...listened to CBS Radio Mystery Theater.
Another woman supposedly had an obsessive fear of death because her parents took her to a witch doctor when she was five. She got saved as an adult, and then after a few years, the fear returned until she...confessed in great detail to God all the men she had sex with before she was married.
What? How does that even make sense? Salvation was not enough to deliver this woman from demonic oppression, but "envisioning" every man that she had sex with delivered her? Did she not already receive forgiveness of those sins when she repented and was saved?
I do not deny that Satan and his demons are real, but the authors seem to attribute nearly everything to some occultic behavior, and make wild claims about demons and oppression that go well beyond Scripture.
Their steps to freedom in Christ almost seem like some kind of "white magic" superstition.
That being said, their tips for dealing with anxiety in chapter three are helpful.
Very helpful and focused look at many of the roots of anxiety for Christians and how we can live in freedom from fear and anxiety as we tell ourselves the truth of who we are in Christ, how we can respond in a godly manner to anxiety through mind renewal and healthy community and most importantly who God is and what He has already given to us by His Spirit that dwells in us to put off the anxieties and fears that we need not carry but rather cast them on our Precious Savior as He cares for us at all times and will supply us with all our needs through the riches of His grace and love no matter what we face. I really need these truths every day!
For a Christian book, I’m glad they confronted abuse and to turn them in or seek help. Most Christian circles will say “just forgive them” I also appreciate how the writers said the church ought to provide a sanctuary for victims of abuse. So much more I thought were great resources. But I had to give a shoutout to the subject of abuse in today’s world especially.
The fear of the Lord casts out all other fear and enables us to live in the overcoming power that raised Jesus from the dead. Powerfully written. Gratefully accepted. Receive the truth and be set free.
I read this book as part of my research on the subject of fear. There are some good bits in it but overall I am disappointed. I liked some of the research findings.
Amazing book if you have spiritual strongholds or ties that you need to be free from. This book will walk you through how to do so by prayer and understanding. Highly recommended.
The best book on mental health and well-being a Christian could find! Word based and Spirit filled with practical strategies to overcome fear and improve your mental well-being. Excellent resource.
"As we move nearer and nearer to the time of our Lord's return, fear and anxiety will increase in intensity and pervasiveness. Jesus prophesied that it would be so in Luke 21:25, 26: "And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.", Neil T. Anderson and Rich Miller, Freedom from Fear, page 287.
This book has tools for getting free from fear using a biblical approach. Imagine if the people in this world we lived in had the "fear of God"? There would be very few crimes. This revelation alone from this book could solve most of the crimes in our world today.
We must know how to combat fear in order to be effective in this world today and this book is a tool that can show us the way.
I received a copy of FREEDOM FROM FEAR: OVERCOMING WORRY AND ANXIETY written by Neil Anderson from a Goodreads/Giveaway program. It addresses the fears that many of us have and offers some ways to overcome them. He writes this from a Christian point of view and encourages us to only fear God. The other things are non-essential and we need to let them go.
