Cardinalul italian îşi strânse degetele de la picioare, deranjat de pantofii noi din piele, visând la confortul sandalelor sale şi la roba acum înlocuită de costumul de mătase Bordilini, lucrat manual.

— Izvorul Minciunilor curge din dealurile Galileei, spuse el. Enoriaşii din Nazareth vorbesc despre înmugurirea copacilor, dar susţin că toate vor pieri atunci când ploaia şi vântul rece vor sosi dinspre nord.

Secretarul general al Naţiunilor Unite zâmbi.

— Domnul meu, ce legătură are un buletin meteorologic din Israel cu această întrunire secretă şi cei trei distinşi prelaţi care iau parte la ea?

Cardinalul îl privi întâi pe arhiereul Bisericii Anglicane, grizonant, îmbrăcat şi el în haine civile, îşi întoarse privirile apoi către tânărul prinţ saudit cu barbă, care privea pe fereastră, uitându-se la East River. Roba lungă, din olandă de un alb pur, nu reuşea să-i ascundă supleţea trupului şi postura aristocrată.

Prinţul Ahmed Husseini se întoarse şi-l fixă cu o privire pătrunzătoare pe secretarul general. Se îndreptă către cardinal şi arhiereu.

— Fiecare dintre noi a pierdut un membru al clerului pe colinele din Galileea. Pe mine, pierderea mă afectează personal. Mullahul{1} a trimis la Wadi Amude pe unchiul meu, fratele mai mic al tatălui meu, regele Arabiei Saudite. Acum am devenit eu Mullah al Arabiei Saudite şi Protector al Sfintei Pecete şi al Kaaba{2} din Mecca.

— Domnule secretar general, sintagma „izvorul minciunilor” pe care a folosit-o cardinalul se potriveşte situaţiei în care ne aflăm, spuse arhiereul, încli- nându-se în faţă. Biserica Anglicană nu crede că e cu putinţă ca trei crime violente să aibă loc în aceeaşi lună la Wadi Amude, şi poliţia israeliană să nu ştie nimic despre făptaşi.

O carte interesanta pe cat posibil insa mi-ar fi placut sa citesc mai mult despre Cabala. O carte din care indirect ai ce invata , insa se putea si mai bine. Nu am fost pe aceeasi unda cu ea, dar nu imi pare rau ca am citit-o. Mi- a deschis apetitul pentru alte carti de genu".
