Love is a highway, and Henry just got Rear Ended

I’ve spent my entire adult life working eighty hours a week, chasing money, security… success . When my recent start-up went under, leaving me with nothing to show for years of grinding myself down to the bone, I’m not sure who I am anymore. I never thought I’d be forty-eight with no money, living with my brother, trying to figure everything out from scratch. But, here we are…

All that chasing didn’t leave a lot of time for romance or relationships either. Unless you count the occasional hook-up to let off a little steam. Now I have all the free time in the world… but who would want a middle-aged failure anyway?

When one of my most recent hook-ups turns out to be my new coworker, I’m starting to think the universe is having a good laugh at my expense. As if Auggie wasn’t tempting enough with all of the tattoos and his surprisingly sweet smile, now I’m spending all day watching him work. He’s covered in grease, with his overalls half zipped… is it getting hot in here, or is it just me?

He’s impossible to resist, but that doesn’t make the timing any better. Body work is one thing, but I’m determined to keep my heart out of it. If only Auggie would stop baking me cookies and touching me in ways that keep my engine running all night long. I think we’re going to need some coolant in here, because things are definitely heating up…

Rear Ended is book 4 in the Big Bull Mechanics series but can be read as a stand alone. It’s full of mechanic puns, hilarious and swoony banter, tons of heat, and two men falling in love in spite of their best efforts to keep things casual.

This series is so good on the one hand and so superficial on the other. Amusing, really funny, but sometimes also very OTT. With this book, I'm almost a little sad that it's so superficial. I hadn't thought of Auggie as likable in the previous books, and of all the characters in Big Bull Mechanics, he's the most interesting so far.
Auggie also makes a chliché-like impression here at the beginning.

“You want something to drink?” I offer, needing a few seconds to catch my breath before I declare mating season in Bear Country. 🐻😳🐻

Yet there is so much more hidden in this character. The way he treats Henry is so wonderful and he is simply a precious treasure.

I spent a solid fifteen minutes waffling over whether baking cinnamon rolls to impress Henry would come off as desperate as it feels. I’m still not sure if this is the equivalent of writing my crush a note in middle school or not, but it’s too late to change my mind about it now to save face. 🫠🧁🫠

Oh, I wish this story went into a little more in depth. I had a good time reading it again and laughed a lot, but overall it has so much more potential.
Anyway, if you're up for some mindless fun and super hot sex scenes, this is the one for you.

I claw at the rough fabric of his jumpsuit, arching into him as he fills me in one slow stroke, one inch at a time until I’m gasping for him to just fucking wreck me already. Own me. Destroy me so that no one else will ever satisfy me again. 🥵💕🥵

“Tongue me open and then fuck me until I can’t see straight,” he begs against my lips. 🤤🌶️🤤

Sexy, low angst story, but a bit bland tbh.

Henry is the more interesting MC. He has a backstory, and, being just a few years younger than him, I totally get why he would feel like a failure after losing his business and life savings at age 48. That's rough.

Auggie needs a personality though. He's affable but is missing complex character traits that make an MC feel real.

The other guys at the shop are always fun, although I'm getting really tired of the constant Shep/Riggs mentions. We get it! Stop already.

My favorite thing about this book is Hamlet the pig. He outshines the MCs in every scene!

Aww this was a pretty cute book to read to pass the time on a weekend.
It kind of reminds me of the time I thought it would be fun to sign up for a 5K on a whim - turns out that’s not the kind of thing you should do on a whim.
Also I would like a pet pig now.

Another cute installment of the Big Bull / Four Bear world.

Hamlet the pig was my favourite character in this one! Probably not the intended response, but now I have the urge to take my son to the farm!

I struggled to like Henry because he was so mopey and fixated on money, but I did like how Auggie literally goes from 0-100 after one flirtation, and just can't dial it back!

Really hoping Shep and Riggs are the next book and that there's a lot of tension in it, because this one felt just a touch too sweet for me. I need the angst!

This was ok but it wasn't memorable. I had a good time mostly. Auggie didn't really have a personality or anything going on: not really any friends because yes he is part of the shop and we are told they are a big family but we don't see him go out with the guys and don't really see many friends (outside of the mandatory Stone cameo). We know nothing of his family. He can be summarized as: he liked cars, he has a pig for a pet and he likes to bake. That's about it. Now as for Henry he is insecure because his start up went belly up (the timeline on that wasn't clear, how long did he have it? He is 48 so presumably a long time) and he thinks that outside of money he has nothing to offer. He is looking for himself but I don't feel he (or we for that matter) found it. It is low angst and high steam.

I loved Auggie and my heart hurt for him when he was having an “ always the bridesmaid never the bride “ moment 🥺

Henry, I liked but not as much as Auggie. He had a lot of issues to work out before he was willing to give the relationship a try so I didn’t enjoy his POV as much until he started seeing things from a different perspective instead of trying to think of ways he could chase his old life.

I started enjoying the story more after Henry wanted to be all in, cos I love established couple content ☺️I’m always greedy for longer on-page time after the dust settles. Speaking of being greedy, I wanted to see the convo that lead to them getting a place together 😭

Epilogue was great
No cheating, no sharing
No others after meeting (woo!)
Honorable mention: Hamlet 🥺

Another great entry in this no drama series

I love K.M.'s books because they're an easy read with a happy ending and no stupid drama or ridiculous third act break ups.

She writes ordinary guys finding love in ordinary places but the stories themselves aren't a bit ordinary.

Instead they're full of found and blood family ties, friendships and support, small town vibes where people look out for each other.

And hot, hot men who get all soft and mushy when they find their true love.

Enjoyable, funny, and spicy like the rest of the books in this series. Felt lacking in character and relationship development to me. 3 ⭐️ for an average read that was still a positive experience. I was looking forward to Auggie’s book throughout the series so I am a bit bummed, but still liked Auggie as a character in this.

Also, by far my favorite cover of K.M. Neuhold’s. I don’t usually like the half-naked men book covers, but this one I am fully on board with

Utterly delightful. Auggie and Henry were everything I wanted them to be. Sweet, swoony and definitely hot.

I found Auggie to be incredibly endearing. He didn’t want to overplay his hand with Henry, but he just couldn’t stay away. There was just something about Henry that kept him coming back for more. Henry feeling like he wasn’t good enough and didn’t have anything to offer Auggie made my heart hurt. I was so happy for Henry when he started to realize that Auggie only wanted Henry; nothing more, nothing less.

I adored Hamlet. I also really liked Henry’s brother Jay and the set up for some bikers books in the future. I was happy to see some nods to other books by this author but no overt cameos. The Big Bull mechanics can stand on their own and I’m glad Neuhold is letting them shine. This book knocked it out of the park for me and I cannot wait to read about the hot mess Riggs and Shep will be. I’m ready.

Sweet, low angst read à la Neuhold. Not my favourite, not my least favourite and looking forward to the next! :)

ETA:
- It’s not called Windows Dos (page 44) - that really made me trip up
- Is this the first time this place they all live has been given a name? I read it thrice and felt like I’d never seen it before :kek:

- both white American
- one 48 and a bear
- the other muscled, tattooed and more twinky (age unsure)

REAR ENDED pretty much follows the same low angst, high heat formula for this series. I did like it and Auggie was a really sweet, albeit muscled and tattooed MC, but I think I'm just getting tired of the same immature, goofy 40-something that Neuhold has been writing for her last 3 series. I don't mind that kind of character but almost every single MC has been that type and it's getting boring.

That being said, it was nice to be back at the garage as a setting and I enjoyed seeing Henry find himself again after hitting rock bottom when his business venture failed. The way Auggie supported him and made sure that Henry knew he was more than his job and bank account was really great.

I also liked Henry's brother, Jay, and I'm assuming his tattoo shop/motorcycle club will be the next spin off series. I'll admit I'm intrigued even though all the bikers seemed to be cast from the same mold; what can I say I'm a sucker for tattoo shop romances.

In Rear Ended, Henry meets Auggie at a bar after moving to a small town named Fall Cross. He's starting over after his once successful business in Chicago crashed. Auggie is immediately charmed by Henry, but Henry is a bit skittish. His self-confidence is at an all time low since he relied on his money and status to assess his self-worth. The two men share a heated encounter at Auggie's, then Henry makes his escape silently after they're done. Soon they discover that Henry's the new hire at Auggie's work, and Henry feels bad about introducing himself with a fake name at the bar. They end up seeing each other again outside of work, but Henry doesn't see himself as dating material, and he's still thinking about finding another business idea to get back his old life. Will Auggie's attempts at boosting Henry's self-confidence work and will it be enough to keep him in Fall Cross?

This was a cute story and a light read. I wish there was a little bit more conflict or passion in this book to make it more exciting... Or maybe it's something with the relationship development that seemed off to me. Anyway, most people will definitely enjoy Rear Ended! I had a good time reading it, but I was probably in the mood for something more angsty.

I'm looking forward to Shep and Riggs book! Based on their interactions, I'm hoping for a grumpy sunshine story!

I loved Henry but Auggie was precious with his fear of coming on too strong and dreams of finding his person. I adored this steamy rom com with a one-night stand to friends with benefits situation , an adorable pet pig, Auto mechanics 101, a mechanic who loves to bake, an MC who gets a tad possessive, friends, and a HEA.

Favorite Quotes:

He’s the very definition of a bear, and I am so fucking here for it it’s not even funny.

Why can’t I be the right guy for a change? Maybe I should try walking past him a few more times just in case. It couldn’t hurt, right?

“Repeat after me,” he says, putting his hands on my shoulders and holding my gaze. “I am a sexy, confident, bear of a man who will not be destroyed by one setback.”

A kiss like that has the power to change a man, and for just a minute last night, that didn’t feel like such a bad thing.

We finally get Auggie’s story, y’all and from the FIRST LINE I was hooked. I don’t know if I’ve said it before but I LOVE how these guys are all older. I mean, Henry is 48 and hot afffffff. He’s so vulnerable even if he’s in the middle of his life and while he struggles to find what he wants, he’s honest with Auggie and he’s not afraid to “try.”

ɪᴛ ꜰᴇᴇʟꜱ ʟɪᴋᴇ ʜᴇɴʀʏ ɪꜱ ᴛʜᴇ ᴋɪɴᴅ ᴏꜰ ᴍᴀɴ ɪ ᴄᴏᴜʟᴅ ꜱᴇᴇ ꜱᴘᴇɴᴅɪɴɢ ᴍʏ ʟɪꜰᴇ ᴡɪᴛʜ—ꜱᴏᴍᴇᴏɴᴇ ᴡʜᴏ ᴡɪʟʟ ᴅᴏ ᴛɪɴʏ, ᴛʜᴏᴜɢʜᴛꜰᴜʟ ᴛʜɪɴɢꜱ ᴀꜱ ᴇᴀꜱʏ ᴀꜱ ʙʀᴇᴀᴛʜɪɴɢ.

And oh man, I ended up LOVING Auggie. All that gentle, tatted man wanted was a bear of his own and from the moment he met Henry he was in love. The way he had to keep pulling back was cute. And the way he slowly supported Henry was beautiful.

“ᴛʜᴀɴᴋꜱ ꜰᴏʀ ꜱᴇᴇɪɴɢ ꜱᴏᴍᴇᴛʜɪɴɢ ɪɴ ᴍᴇ ᴡʜᴇɴ ɪ ᴡᴀꜱ ᴀᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ʟᴏᴡᴇꜱᴛ ᴘᴏɪɴᴛ ɪɴ ᴍʏ ʟɪꜰᴇ.”

These two were the sweetest. Add in Hamlet, allllll the big guys from construction workers to mechanics to bikers (future series!!!!!) and this world is so addictive. Riggs + Shep next???

Completely disappointed.

The chemistry between Auggie and Henry was non existent. They were trying to make something big out of nothing.

Auggie was a flirty, sweet, outgoing guy in the previous installments and I really couldn't wait for his book, I wanted more for him than Henry, who was, in my opinion, a completely boring and underdeveloped as a character and he didn't really suit Auggie.

Believe it or not, even the spice didn't get to me.

I like this series and all the characters connected to BBM, but I feel like most books aren't bringing anything new or exciting to the table .

And I could do with less animals in every book.

I hope Shep and Riggs get their book soon and the author will take it up a notch.
We really need something different, otherwise this series is going stale.

Rear Ended is the fourth book in K.M. Neuhold's Big Bull Mechanics series. It's a MM strangers-to-lovers romance that begins with a one-time hookup that leads to so much more! It's told from a first person, dual point of view and has a guaranteed happily ever. This book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the entire series for all the shenanigans and other happily ever afters.

At the age of 48, Henry finds himself starting over after his recent start-up company went under. He's living with his brother, trying to rebuild his savings, and starting a job as Big Bull Mechanics' office manager. To his dismay and delight, he learns that one of his new coworkers, Auggie, is his hookup from the week before. Auggie is everything Henry doesn't believe he deserves - he's sweet with a filthy mouth, good with his hands, ink for days, and a heart of pure gold. Although they agree to a casual relationship on the down low, they find themselves slipping into a comfortable routine together. Can Auggie make Henry see that he's worthy of the love they feel for one another and the incredible relationship he wants them to build?
If I’m all washed up, then I really have nothing to offer a guy like Auggie. Because yeah, he is hot, but he’s also funny and surprisingly sweet. He’s the kind of man you have to earn. He’s the kind of man who deserves the fucking world.

We met Auggie in Stripped, part of K.M. Neuhold's interconnected Four Bears Construction series. He had a hopeless crush on his slightly oblivious neighbor. I'm so glad he gets his own story and happily ever after! Him and Henry were just so sweet and slightly unexpected together, it made for another steamy and swoony read as part of the series. One of the things I've really enjoyed about these books (in both series) is that the characters are a little bit older than what you usually see in contemporary romances. Seeing Henry get that fresh start with his life at 48, even though he didn't ask for it, was so refreshing. I think a lot of folks will be able to relate to chasing a dream that didn't pan out, and maybe even having to come to terms with the fact it wasn't the dream you actually wanted.

I really did like Auggie and Henry (oh, and can we forget the adorable side character of Hamlet - seriously, the author is blessing us with these animals each book), and with the connection they felt it was pretty clear things wouldn't be able to remain casual between them. I didn't warm up to Auggie as quickly as I expected to based on meeting him in Stripped. I think he came off a little more callous than I was expecting, and it was at odds with how shy he was when trying to court his neighbor. Henry was such a fun character (and I mean, I'm really hoping we get to see more of his brother and his motorcycle friends and tattoo shop), although it was frustrating when he deemed himself unworthy of Auggie's affections. Luckily they both got with the program, and when they did not only was it romantic but continued to be hot as hell. I especially loved their adventure to Chicago to do the colour run, although, the fact that they did it with no prior training made my muscles cramp for them.

This series is the perfect read if you're looking for some low angst, steamy reads with plenty of mechanic puns and shenanigans. You'll definitely love Auggie and Henry by the end of the book, and I've really loved the epilogues Neuhold has given us throughout the series.
I figure we’ll tell them when it comes up naturally, or once I think of a funny way to announce that I’m rear ending the hot new hire on the regular. I grin at my own joke, even though at this point, what’s going on between Henry and I is so much more than a little bodywork.

Series: Big Bull Mechanics #4
Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

Henry spent his entire adult life working eighty+ hours a week seeking success. When his business went under he was left with nothing to show for the years of grinding and is now living with his brother with no idea what to do with himself. When his recent hook up becomes his new coworker he wonders if the universe is trying to screw him over more or tell him to pursue his feelings for Auggie.

This was an enjoyable low angst, high heat one night stand turned coworkers romance. Henry is a 48 year old man who has hit rock bottom and is struggling to restart his life. He is also realizing that he wasn’t really happy with his previous life and is trying to figure out what makes him happy. I enjoyed seeing Henry regain his happiness and life back but I did get a bit tired of him being hot and cold towards Auggie in the beginning, which Auggie even points out at one point.

Auggie was a muscular, tattooed mechanic who was extremely sweet and kind. I loved how he supported Henry and showed him that he was more than his bank account. He really was a great partner and a great friend to Henry. Also I loved Hamlet, his pet pig.

Overall, this was an enjoyable Big Bull Mechanics book but I am getting slightly tired of the same immature and goofy 40 year old formula this series has, but I will still read the next book to see who falls next.

All the squealy swoons!

So I think we can all agree that Hamlet is a sweetheart, and I really want to carry him around all day, freaking adorable that one. Auggie has him beat though in the I-just-want-to-squish-and-love-him-forever feels though. I adore his and Henry’s later-in-life romance and how Auggie taught Henry what living a full life means. The way they slid into love was all swoon and sweet, and that doesn’t include the donuts.

“It’s not about being perfect every second, it’s about loving each other even when you’re not.”

Gah, these two, right in the feels, and my heart gets squishier the more I think think about them. Heartfelt moments, funny banter, and smoking chemistry, Henry and Auggie are the perfect mix of quiet moments, dreamy stares, and secret smiles. I love them, and this found family that keeps expanding. Love is in the air at Fall Crosse, and I’m here for every bit of it.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.25 stars

Rear Ended is the fourth book in the Big Bull Mechanics series and I think it may be my favorite so far. These stories all have a wonderful found family vibe and we do spend time with the Big Bull guys, as well as getting appearances from friends in the larger universe, but this story should also work fine as a standalone. Rear Ended starts off with intensity as Auggie and Henry have a sexy hookup and things continue to be high heat throughout the story. Auggie and Henry have some amazing chemistry and I could just feel the pull the two men have toward each other, even as they try to stay away from one another and keep things professional at work. Alas, they are pretty unsuccessful at that and the guys end up finding ways to get time alone together.

"It's not about being perfect every second, it's about loving each other even when you're not."

Tattooed hunk Auggie finally lands his bear!! I've been waiting for his book ever since he popped up as Demetri's neighbor in Stripped. I mean a sweetie mechanic, covered up to his neck in tats who loves to bake? Sign me the hell up!! I have no idea how the man hadn't been scooped up before Henry came along. It's bonkers to me! But I bet Henry is counting his lucky stars for that fact because these two were just perfect for one another.

Henry had a lot of soul searching to do before he could be the man Auggie needed. They found one another when Henry was at a low point in his life. His priorities weren't in the best order and he seemed to be of the mindset that money equaled a happy life. Auggie had the opposite in views. He was perfectly content with his life. He just desperately wanted someone to share it with. It might have taken Henry time to realize that an amazing life was within his reach if only he opened his damn eyes, but he definitely got there.

I loved meeting the new bikers who work in the tattoo shop owned by Henry's brother Jay. I'm guessing those men are going to be next to find their happily ever afters. That is of course after we finally get Riggs and Shep!! These two have been dancing around each other for far too long and I have a feeling once they finally give in it's going to be explosive! Not to mention a little hint we get about what kind of tool Riggs is working with if you catch my drift. ;) Can't wait!

“It’s not about being perfect every second, it’s about loving each other even when you’re not.”

I abosolutely adored Auggie and Henry right from the start. I loved that these two were older men…heck, Henry was 48 and still s*xy AF!! The way Henry felt as he walked into that bar and saw all those younger guys…yeah, I get that…lol!! This was such a sweet story of Henry finding himself again after the loss of his business and who he thought he was and what he wanted. I loved how sweet Auggie was and how he longed to love Henry but gave him time to find his truth. These two were so sweet and s*xy together! Auggie’s sweet personality and his humor were great! I also really love how KM writes such unique pets into her stories and the laughter and love they bring to the humans…Hamlet was awesome!!

"I’m more worried about accidentally blurting out a marriage proposal and sending him running for the hills"

This is book 4 in the series, Big Bull Mechanics. Kyleen has another hit on her hands with Augie's book, I can't wait to see if she can top it with Riggs' and Shep's book.

This book touches on a subject people hope never happen to them... loosing a job late in life and having to start over from scratch. Not only do you lose your money, you've saved for retirement, but you lose your sense of self-worth. Henry battles this throughout the story since he's tied having money and self-worth together so tightly. He's always been afraid he'd have to struggle like his parents did so money was/is his motivation.

Will Henry figure himself out before he loses Augie? Can Augie get Henry to understand it's not all about money?

It was fun getting to see several of the guys from the other series, it always gives me the warm and fuzzies.

Opposites attract, one night stand with new coworker, brings the heat, brings the fun and did I mention the pig!
