Something Wanton

Rate this book
He wants more than she's giving—he wants all of her.
She wants to slow things down.

Powerful witch Armand Bellamy moved from Paris to the Motor City to pursue Desdemona, sassy PI and reluctant sorceress. As Desy sleuths cases of jewelry theft at a riverfront hotel and of a crafty real estate agent suspected of adultery, she foresees neither the upcoming conflict with a sanity-impaired Wiccan Priest nor that the winding road of her relationship with Armand is paved with a six-foot-one, blond-haired, blue-eyed speed bump.

Nick Sage, Desy's business partner and best friend since childhood, separates from his wife—and is intent on claiming Desy as his own.

It's been a while since I read Something Wicked, but Desy, who's a High Priestess witch and the Wiccan Queen, seems to have accepted her craft for the most part. With the help of Armand, a High Priest and her lover, she's slowly learning how to control her magic. She's still reluctant to deal with Wiccan politics though.

Desy is an OK character, though her stubbornness and independence seemed to get her into trouble. She's sarcastic and it came through well as I had a few laugh out loud moments. I really liked Armand; he was very suave and intense and seemed to really love Desy.

The downside to this story was how boring it was. Nothing happened the first 3/4 of the story. I'm sad to say that there was way too much sex and I ended up skimming/skipping almost all of them; they were very repetitious. The revelation of Nick's feelings seemed forced and I think was used to create drama and tension. It didn't work, IMO. It just seemed an unnecessary plot device. The ending was alright, I guess. I wavered between a 2.5 and 3 rating, but settled with 2.5 stars.
