TYLER AND LYMIE are at it again, and this time the action occurs on the wrestling mat - as well as in Tyler's overactive imagination. It all begins when Tyler decides to try out for the wrestling team and, after a few practices, becomes a fanatical convert. Meanwhile, his school gets a new science teacher, with whom Tyler falls hopelessly and helplessly in love. Most of us have had this experience, but few of us have experienced it so acutely as poor Tyler - especially when he makes a jaw-dropping discovery about his beloved teacher and his single mother. As one can expect from Daniel Hayes, the plot just keeps humming along, the situations are hilarious, and the dialogue is right on the mark. Hayes has a perfect ear for the way teenagers speak, a perfect eye for the dilemmas they confront and the heartaches they sustain. Anyone who has read the award-winning Trouble With Lemons or Eye of the Beholder (his two previous novels) will jump at this new softcover edition, the third installment of the Tyler and Lymie adventures.

Tyler signs up for the wrestling team, filled with images of adoring girls standing over his injured body. And then, in a moment of panic, he realizes he might really get hurt. But when Chuckie takes over as coach, Tyler and Lymie actually start to improve. Then Tyler meets the new science teacher, Miss Williams, and falls hopelessly in love. That's when Tyler learns that emotional pain can be just as devastating as physical pain.

In the book there's a boy named Tyler McAllister. He joins the wrestling team and he keeps thinking If he is going to get himself really hurt. Throughout the book Tyler keeps getting really vivid visions about him getting hurt and every girl standing over him with tears in their eyes. Each time he gets the visions they are even more clear and they go on farther. Tyler and lymie join the wrestling team together, lymie is Tyler's best friend. Throughout the book they do dumb things. Tyler gets a new science teacher and he falls in love with her, he keeps on thinking about how many years it would take before their ages would not matter. At the end of the book is when Tyler's vision comes true. Just like the vision he is laying down on the mat and every girl has tears in their eyes. He is carried of the mat and he cant see a thing he says it felt like he was at war and he woke up 5o times during the night. The book got its name because at the end of the book Tyler's team makes up a chant and its "no effect". What it means to them is no one can hurt you or take u down.

One word that I didn't understand was Lamebrain, I think it meant Tyler was calling him stupid. Another word that didn't make sense was Lummox. I'm pretty sure this means clumsy and stupid because lymie's mom was pulling Tyler off of the kid and she said that Tyler was hurting him because he was clumsy.

In life was sometimes do things that we have to take a second thought on because we think its hard. But we just have to step up and do it and once we do, we are glad we did. In the "No Effect" Tyler doesn't no if he wants to join the wrestling team because he thinks he's not tough enough"For starters, I'm not all that tough."(Draper 1).

I like the book pretty good because I can kind of relate to it. In seventh grade we did wrestling for a while in PE. And I was nervous to do it because I thought I wasn't tough enough and I would get hurt. Then I tried it and I was pretty fun actually, now in the ninth grade I wasn't nervous anymore.
