This resource examines the central issues of religion and foreign affairs during Elizabeth I's reign between 1558 to 1603, concluding with an examination of the relationship between the two.
This is an easy-to-read book of 150 pages which is aimed at students. Although I am not now a history student,I found this an enjoyable read and an improvement on several other such volumes. There are seven chapters divided into traditional areas of study such as Elizabeth's involvement in the Religious Settlement, the Puritans, the Catholics, France and Spain, Ireland and Scotland. Each chapter has a short "Points to Consider", key dates, followed by concise key issues, and short suggestions for further work, plus some pointers to answering essays on each topic.
I admit to having read little about Elizabeth I in detail and finished this book thinking not about a great queen, Gloriana etc, but rather a ruler with considerable faults especially towards the end of her reign.
