Taking a job on a ranch and moving all the way to Montana is my chance—a way for me to live somewhere new and start fresh. Again. A change in scenery and some fresh mountain air is exactly what I need.
But falling for a grumpy single dad, who’s also my boss, isn’t a part of the plan.
Rhett Black is easily the most attractive man I have ever laid eyes on. Until he opens his mouth. His insufferable attitude gets under my skin, and we push each other’s buttons every chance we get.
When he sees me dancing with another man, his jealousy does something to my insides. Before I know it, we’re thrown into a different kind of passion.
Now, I’m falling. Fast.
But Rhett has been burned before, left behind by so many people in his life. Will he be able to trust that I’m here to stay?
This family has given me a safe place to land. And I have no intention of ever giving that up.
Burned is a single dad, grumpy x sunshine, small town, cowboy romance that I could not put down! The story follows Poppy, who moves to Montana to work at a rescue ranch. There, she is met with her new boss, Rhett. The two get off on the wrong foot, and Poppy makes it clear to Rhett that she is going to give as good as she gets. While there is an undeniable attraction between the two, Rhett is hesitant to pursue Poppy until one night changes everything and he is no longer able to resist her.
I breezed through this book in one sitting, it was such a fun read. While the plot was rather simple, the steam kept me engaged the whole way through; the dirty talking was absolutely stellar. This is definitely a book for someone not looking for anything serious, it's a quick and easy read full of smut and banter! Sometimes all you need is a good steamy book and that's exactly what this is.
A nanny from San Francisco, Poppy Sharpe is ready for a change of scenery. Hopeful that Cane Creek, Montana will be the balm for her soul, she accepts a job tending to rescued animals on the Rescue Ranch.
Weary from the stress of running a demanding farm, caring for his two young children, and trying to keep his family intact, when the curvy city girl shows up, Rhett Black has no patience for the new employee he didn’t even want. The sizzling tension between them is palpable and makes the Montana summer even hotter!
Watching Rhett thaw as he realizes there is more to the pink-haired Poppy than meets the eye was gratifying. Likewise, watching Poppy bloom and find her place in the world was heartening. I loved everything about Rescue Ranch and the entire Black family. I’m so happy that we’ll be back there for Hayes’ and River’s story because I can’t wait to find out what’s keeping them apart.

4.5⭐️ wow I loved this. Age gap? Single dad? Cowboy? Check, check, check. I am sold.
I loved Poppy. I am Poppy. Poppy is me. I love how ready she was for new beginnings. How she took her life into her own hands finally and did something she wanted. Did something for herself. She was so fun. Strong and fierce and feisty. No bullshit, no drama, just vibes. The way she handled Rhett throughout but at the party especially. So good, so mature. She was a great character. I felt kinship and saw parts of myself and my thoughts and feelings in her.
Rhett is a delicious dick with a delicious dick. Oh my god I loved him. He went from dickish to jealous to possessive in 60 seconds. When Hayes and Wells noted his ‘determined to get the girl’ look and he said ‘fuck it’ I lost it. The best. I respected the walls he had built and his reasons for them. The way he completely changed with his children was something special. The fact that Poppy saw that was a beautiful things. The way he felt seeing her with his kids was so sweet. He is just so head over boots for her and vice versa.
This is so fucking delicious. I love the banter and the sass and the grumpiness. The grunts. All of it was great. This was just so fun and a quick, easy read but it had all the vibes. I was honestly laughing my ass off at this. I think t definitely could’ve been a bit longer. You could say it was a tad quick and instalove-y but not at all in a bad way and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also this whole family is amazing and I love them. Can’t wait for Hayes & Wells! Had life not gotten in the way, I would’ve devoured this in one sitting no problem.
I appreciated the CF representation a lot, as a person who has experienced the loss of a loved one due to CF. I honestly would’ve even liked to have had it talked about a bit more but I’m sure it will be throughout the series as well.
“You want to dance with someone? Dance with me. […] You want to smile at someone? Smile at me. […] And if you want to touch someone, poppyseed? You touch me.”
“I will go to bed loving you and wake up choosing you.”

This was such a fun read! One of my favorite tropes is nannyxsingle dad and yeah, this served. Poppy had a cute dynamic Rhett and his kids. I think Rhett’s struggles were well developed, as in, I could feel his frustration but in the end, love (and passion) does win! 💖 I have to say, I wasn’t expecting all that tension, in the one horse scene… I loved it. Plus, Rhett knew how to make me swoon 🫡✨ listen, I like being manhandled every now and then lmao. Also, kind of random, but the farm gave me a warm feeling. The rescue animals, a weakness of mine, have their own little space in my heart ❤️. Overall, I’d say to read this I’d you want a light, sexy, fall-ish vibes romance. I’d like to thank the author for the ARC - all opinions are my own.
Thank you Ivy for the ARC!! I was so excited when I read the premise of the book and I knew immediately it would be something right up my alley and boy was it!
You meet Poppy who is working as a nanny, filling slightly unfulfilled and wanting to move onto something new, shes always on the move and has landed herself a job on a ranch in Montana working with animals. Come in Rhett, grumpy ranch owner and single dad who cannot stand Poppy the moment he meets her purely because he also cannot resist her! What ensues is a hot will they won't they journey. Plus the mouth on Rhett... oh boy, it really is always the grumpy ones
I loved meeting all the side characters including all the brothers and Im excited to see what happens in the upcoming books in the series.
I wasn’t aware of the author’s drama until after I finished the book. If I knew before reading the book I probably wouldn’t have read it. But with that being said I will say this is one of the best single dad cowboy romances I’ve read. I loved the main characters and how they pushed each others buttons. The steamy scenes were excellent! The epilogue was adorable. But this will probably be the only book I read by this author.
Thank you Ivy for giving me a chance to Alpha read Burned.
Poppy has taken a job at a animal rescue on a ranch in Montana. Rhett is the owner of the ranch.
I loved this story. It is a cute, easy, fast read. It’s a small town romance with some good spice! Rhett knows how to use rope more ways then ropin’ cows.
You can really feel the bond that is growing not only between Poppy and Rhett but also his kids. I can’t wait to read the next installment and brother.
🐮 Grumpy / Sunshine 🐮 Single Dad 🐮 Rope Play 🐮 Possessive Alpha Male
Burned is an age-gap single dad romance between a city girl, Poppy, and a cowboy, Rhett. Poppy has decided to start a new life working at Black Ranch, an animal rescue, and Rhett wants absolutely nothing to do with her. Years ago his ex-wife left him and their two children behind and he is sick and tired of being seen as a rest stop but not the destination. When Poppy arrives with her gorgeously pink hair and her sass, Rhett realizes he may have bit off more than he could chew.
I did not like this in the slightest, but here are some positives I did like! I loved every single side character in this book at Black Ranch! It gave the cowboy romance atmosphere and vibes that I love. The age-gap also didn't really bother me as I felt both characters were mature in their age, but Rhett could use some work on his emotional maturity! For reference, Poppy is 26 and Rhett is 36.
I disliked everything else :D
First off, I do not rate books when I dislike the smut unless it is just THAT BAD. I don't care whether or not a romance book I pick up has smut in it, but this book was too much. It was like the author wanted to do one of those TikToks where they show off the smutty scenes with the "mic-drop" lines that the male main characters spit out; I was sick of it. This is a 294-page romance book and I did not see a single connection to these characters other than their physical attraction. They were constantly fighting and butting heads but not in a hot banter way, just in a way where they did not seem compatible at ALL. The smut just made me cringe EVERY TIME and they do it so often I wanted to scream.
This book also creates no time for them to know each other and get vulnerable. There were a few scenes where Poppy talked about her mother and Rhett was talking about his ex-wife, but it felt so oddly placed that it just didn't work. I also disliked Rhett's entire personality. There is a difference between a grump and an asshole and Ivy Jackson made those lines blur. He was an ASSHOLE to Poppy. Granted Poppy was sometimes annoying and didn't follow instructions, but he would just go off on her and embarrass her because he's hot-headed. That is not cute! That is a red flag!
Finally, I also found out this author is a pretty terrible person. Ivy Jackson is a penname for Dana Isaly and from the reviews I've seen on Goodreads she is a bit problematic. Overall, I will be returning this book and probably book two as well because even though I love Hayes (MMC in book two), from how much smut this book has in so few pages, I think reading book two may make me dislike Hayes. I do have two copies of the second book though, as one copy got water-damaged, so maybe I'll read it one day.
If you want a book similar to this minus the age-gap and single-dad tropes, I recommend Alive and Wells by Bailey Hannah. It does the city girl x rancher idea so much better.
WOW. So this is my first Ivy Jackson read and also my first cowboy read. It's not my normal genre but the tropes made me interested, so I figured why not? WELL, I'm SO glad I did. Rhett and Poppy had me hooked from the very beginning. Even when Rhett was an asshole, I was rooting for Rhett and Poppy to be together. Poppy is this fun, charismatic, plus size character that was absolutely LOVEABLE, I was rooting for her happy ending the entire time! There were a few times when I mad at Rhett for being an ass, buuuuut I also love that his personality stayed true to him the entire book. Sometimes authors do the grumpy/ sunshine trope and by the end they're both sunshines, but I loved that Rhett was still his grunting and grumbling self that Poppy fell in love with. Add in the consideration of the kids and how amazing Poppy would be as a stepmom, I loved this story. A great first book to this series. And the Easter egg at the end about which brother we'll be reading about next wasn't lost on me. I'll be counting down the days to read that one too. Well done, Ivy!

oh my god i did receive this as an arc but trust me that this is my honest review i absolutely loved this book sometimes certain characters in books can annoy me but i loved every single character Poppy the FMC was so perfect she’s so strong and sticks up for herself and i love it Rhett the MMC is a grumpy cowboy how can you not love him and the banter was so great the spice was oh man hot so hot the book was hilarious spicy and swoon worthy i cannot wait for ivys next books to come out
I must say, this has to be my third or fourth favorite book couple ever lol. Rhett was such an a**whole, but as the story developed you learn why he is the way he is and it totally understandable. Wade has to be the funniest 5 year old in any book I've read so far lol. I enjoyed this loved story and look forward to book number two.
Sign me up! I really enjoyed this read. It was quick and easy read as well. Not too heavy just simple. Had great banter and spice. I actually liked this better than I expected.
WOW I loved this book!!!!!! I started it and could not put this thing down holy hell cowboy 😩 this cowboy has a MOUTH ON HIM THAT FREAKING SHOCKED ME. He can speak to me like that anyday partner 😍
Thank You Ivy Jackson for the ARC for my honest review!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Poppy Shapre is a wonderer but in need of change of pace and scenery. She leaves San Francisco to move to Montana to work on a ranch taking care of rescue animals.
Rhett Black is a grumpy ass and the now owner of the Family’s Ranch where they have a rescue section in honour of his sister. He is a single dad of 2 kids.
Rhett’s Dad Clyde hires Poppy to work on the Ranch to help with Rescue animals. Rhett is a grumpy ass who is not happy that Poppy is working there and that she makes him feel things he’s never felt before.
I loved this book. It was funny, it was sad, it was hot!!, and touched on a lot of personal stuff as well which I loved. I wished the book went a little longer for a bit more details and I wished they had a proper wedding under the tree like Rhett’s parents instead of it being a gunshot wedding. But I can’t wait for the other books of the series. ESPECIALLY about Hayes and River
ARC Review - Small town / cowboy romance? Love it. Rhett has such a dirty mouth!! That man… I like him. A lot. Plus the single dad aspect? As a single mom, I respect the heck out of him and it makes you love him even more. Poppy is living her best life, and it only gets better when she moves to the ranch. I am looking forward to reading about Hayes and River, and hopefully read about Wells and maybe even Dean one day? These are short, sweet, and spicy to boot.
Cowboys😍 Single Dad Grumpy/Sunshine Age Gap Medium Burn
Buckle up and get ready for the ride in Black Ranch! Rhett and Poppy were an amazing read. The banter and spice was oh so delicious. They both are not afraid of hard work and I loved reading them play there roles at the ranch. Rhett’s kids were a hoot to read, it is so nice to see the kid’s personality and how much they contribute to Poppy and Rhett’s relationship through the book. I loved the imagery of Black Ranch and don’t get me started on Rhett’s brothers 🥵 I can’t wait to read each of there books This is a absolute must read! So check it out!!
THIS BOOK😍 Rhett was the perfect grumpy single dad with the dirtiest mouth 🥵🥵 and he was a grump all the way until the end 😍 Poppy was so perfect for him, wade and Jolene. I love how the whole family accepted her as one of their own from day one and that is exactly what she needed. Poppy was always on the go and never had a home until she moved to Montana for a job working with rescues at Rhett’s family’s farm. She was perfect for the job and perfect for him🩷 absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for hayes and Rivers story!.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I absolutely LOVED this book! I have been wanting a book like this for so long, and Ivy delivered. If you want a sexy, smouldering cowboy romance, then Burned is the book for you! I can't wait to read more books from this author!
