I'm a big fan of Arcimboldo, especially "Fire", which appears in a children's book Alphabart, and "Winter." The paintings are repeated at times, because it is, in addition to an art book, a history of the artist's life and work, as well as where his works currently reside. The book is old and the locations of the works are out-of-date (there were none listed at DC or NY galleries, and I have seen at least one).

This was simply a chance to track down a hard-to-find book and look up close at a very high-quality printed collection of an artist I appreciate.

Fascinating for his place in history (a man of his time in the 16th century court of Hapsburg) and yet also unique and transcendent, influencing the surrealists in the 20th century while still defying strict pigeon-holing. And I found myself constantly wanting to eat.....

Paintings 5 Stars, essay was kind of redundant and could’ve easily been 1/4 of its length with no real loss of information, 1.5 Stars
