About the author

Linda Martín Alcoff (born July 25, 1955 in Panama) is a philosopher at the City University of New York who specializes in epistemology, feminism, race theory and existentialism. From 2012 to 2013, she served as president of the American Philosophical Association (APA), Eastern Division. Alcoff has called for greater inclusion of historically under represented groups in philosophy and notes that philosophers from these groups have created new fields of inquiry, including feminist philosophy, critical race theory, and LGBTQ philosophy. To help address these issues, with Paul Taylor and William Wilkerson, she started the Pluralist Guide to Philosophy. She earned her PhD in Philosophy from Brown University. She was recognized as the distinguished Woman Philosopher of 2005 by the Society for Women in Philosophy and the APA. She began teaching at Hunter College and the City University of New York Graduate Center in early 2009, after teaching for many years at Syracuse University.

Le Blackwell guide to Feminist Philosophy, édité par Alcoff et Kittay est un livre collectif destiné à offrir une introduction, mêlant à la fois "état de l'art" et contribution originale dans plusieurs domaines de la philosophie féministe (académique). Il est important de préciser ici que ce livre n'introduit pas à la doctrine ou au mouvement féministe (comme le fait le Routledge Companion of Feminism) mais bien à la philosophie académique de l'école féministe.

La partie I met en place les débuts et le contexte de l'école féministe de philosophie, et les premières contributions féministes à la philosophie.
La partie II présente les contributions féministes à la philosophie éthique.
La partie III présente les contribution féministes à la philosophie politique. (en général, puis le décolonialisme, la philosophie lesbienne et tout un chapitre dédié à l'intersectionnalité et sa viabilité)
La partie IV est sur l'épistémologie féministe.

Le livre est court, mais technique et un peu trop avancé pour être une vraie introduction. Il faut déjà avoir lu une introduction à la philosophie du 20e siècle et une introduction au féminisme pour saisir ce qu'il est dit. Cependant, la qualité est assez homogène, et la partie 2 et 3 sont vraiment intéressantes. Il est adapté pour ceux qui veulent spécifiquement étudier la *philosophie* féministe, dans son contexte académique. Si vous êtes intéressés par une approche plus générale du féminisme, dirigez vous vers le Routledge Companion of Feminism.
