The decorative dust jacket adds much to this vintage hardcover. The jacket shows wear along the edges from shelving. Book is like new inside, free of markings, bright and clean. NEVER a library book, NOT price-clipped, Not a worthless book of the month club edition. lh
This book is rated too harshly - I assume it stems from the inherent misogyny of the subject matter, that it's written from a male perspective, and the lack of repercussions or introspection. If this was written by a man, I would share these pain points. Conversely I think there's more here than a barely-three-star-novel.
(The story is also dedicated to the authour's father, which is hilarious.)
Weird that late sixties/early seventies San Francisco seems a simpler, easier time, especially since this novel is set in a strip club, but here we are.
I just don't know about this one. I was hoping it would be from a strippers pov, but it's not. Kind of Mary Sue ish, but not in a bad way, exactly. Hard to get into it without spoiling it.
There are some great anecdotes and character studies. So I will bump it up to a four because that's gold.
